Very very good videos these right here! All hail to Mike and other guys over at M&M Motors for taking the time to make these videos. They helped me out a great deal today changing the rollers and pads on my 2003 A6.

That is a great point, we actually addressed it in our Volvo S60 Rear Brake Replacement Video, but you're absolutely right to point it out here. Thanks for commenting!

This is the most informative video on RU-vid about the rear brakes and I thank you because I did the brakes so much faster and confident after I watched this!!! Btw u can rewind calliper so much faster than I did it

Thanks for FCP Euro & Mike from M&M Motors. I found out the trick to hammer out the old rotor is amazing without removing the caliper bracket, that saved me so much time and make it simple. The rear brake on Audi is so compact with the lower suspension arms together. Thanks for sharing the tips. This also works for the A4 B7 chassis. One extra note on A4 B7, you have to remove the parking cable to access the lower caliper bolt.

hi - tryed mounting the caliper , without the disc - secured it with strips - and the job turning the piston back was much easier , even with at manufactured socket to the job - Remember to renew the caliber if the seals are damaged . Fantastic video

I did this repair today. I used a large C clamp to put force on the piston and then used an angle grinder key to turn the piston. Managed to push the piston in with only 3 full rotations.

thanks FCPgroton. I hammer the old rotor more heavily and I can tell the rotor was moving, then I carefully use a flat screwdriver head to pry the plastic ring out. the rotor comes out without problem. The plastic part is Gorilla Automotive 60-5710 Wheel Hub Centric Rings! (I google it) another tips: I bought a can of penetrating oil from homedepot, sprayed the caliper bolts and rotor hub, then leave it overnight. It helps bolts removing and cleans the rust.

There is just one thing worth mentioning; When you press the caliper pistons back, take notice of the break fluid reservoir level, both before and during the operation. Pushing the pistons back will push fluid back into the reservoir and thereby fill it up. Just siphon off fluid as it fills up when you push the pistons. Had a scratch my head moment cause of this. Couldn't get the pistons back far enough, though with the cap of it was a whole lot easier.

You're right to notice we didn't take the cap off, you don't have to but it's certainly a good idea to make sure compressing the piston is not going to overflow anything.

Grease Monkey...Thanks for your email. Did exactly that kind of D&C, even cleaned slide rust off with a flat file. Replaced old calipers, near 100K, with remanufacturer. Decent prices on the web after core return. Found some very old Lubriplate left behind by an Army Vet., and ensured it was well used on slides and carrier pins. Peace of mind knowing that all caliper components are new. Rebuilt them myself in the past, but an oldgoat now, so don't have all that ambition with other things piling up in queue. Thanks again for your heads up, follow up.

Are all A6 Quattro rear rotors mounted on the hub assembly like in the video? I have a 2006 A6 Quattro, and the rotor is solidly frozen onto the hub, trying to tap the rotor with a hammer didn't break it loose. I didn't want to pound on it too hard just in case it's captive and part of the hub assembly like on some cars; since I wasn't sure, I thought I'd do some research first. Guess a large puller is the way to go. Didn't want to hammer on it to avoid possible damage to the hub bearings.

Should work fine on your car, providing it's from the same year range. If you're just doing the pads and rotors no reason to worry about the fluid, just make sure it doesn't overflow your reservoir under the hood when you compress the pistons. Hope that helps!

It's very similar. If you're unable to remove the disc without removing the caliper bracket it's only an extra 2 bolts behind the hub. Give us a ring at 1-877-634-0063 if you've got any questions.

True Professional - Thanks for a perfect video, second time I've done these but still referred back ! Why...? Because of 3:07 -3:10 -Make certain the sliders on the Caliber bracket are free moving ( Just as free as your pads at 6:09 - 6:10 ) Mine were SEIZED on the left side and not discovered by the last "professional" shop that let me have pre-failed brake job !! Thanks for all your Vids I haven't a local Professional I can currently trust !!

@fcpeuro

They will be a little more snug, as no parts have been worn down but it EDIT: shouldn't be a "tight" fit per se. Compare them to your original pads, make sure they're identical except for the ware. If you jam them in there there's a high possibility they'll seize, if you decide they're proper make sure to put some grease around where the caliper contacts the pad. It'll help make sure they move freely.

That's a hub centric spacer for the wheels, it should not be in your way. If you have no rotor retianing screw going through your rotor, then you just need a bigger hammer!
@fcpeuro
@fcpeuro 11 лет назад
Try taking a file to clean the rust off of the caliper, it sounds like you might have some buildup keeping the pad from moving freely.

It looks like there's two options for the rear rotors, 245mm and 255mm. If you know the size is 255mm you can check out the link I've just added to the description of this video to check out the 255mm rotors we offer at FCP Euro. Give us a call if you have any other questions 1-877-634-0063
@fcpeuro

It could be that your pads have stuck, or it could be that the caliper locked, that's really the only thing that could make the calipers stick closed or tight. It also depends on your model and if you have a mechanical emergency brake, if you do, your cables can stick also causing the same problem. Give us a ring if you would like some more help 1-860-388-9001

Starting 7:50 I see that the piston rubber collar is completely torn and MUST be replaced. In many states it's illegal to install the caliper back with this defect. I would replace the caliper, because it may seaze any time because of sand and dust already collected through the torn collar.

Countless things can be causing a random misfire on this application. Would lean towards the ignition coil on this motor, more often then not the culprit. Would guess that's likely causing a random cylinder problem like this.

You should have taken the sliding pins out and check the condition of the pins and the grease. Also, as someone else pointed out, with the rubber seal busted like that, the piston will rust shut in no time. It's all about making the people coming back to the shop as often as possible, isn't it?

@fcpeuro
@fcpeuro 7 лет назад
Unfortunately, your caliper is most likely the culprit. Even though you were able to get the piston to go back in, it is most likely stuck again and will need to be replaced. It will just eat away at your pads until it is flat with the surface of the rotor. Do your brakes smell really bad when you drive down the street?
