A slight departure from our usual C4 S4 and D2 S8 content, this time we're back to talking briefly about the 2013 Audi S6 4.0T (C7) and the most common issue we've experienced with this car over the years.
Misfiring. Specifically, random misfires plus a persistent code for a cylinder 3 misfire. This is the 4th time in 77k miles that this same issue has popped up. I assumed the cylinder 3 coil might have been getting tired so we did a full spark plug and coil replacement on the car in early August of 2023. Just 18 days later while on a road trip through Wisconsin the misfire returned... and remained. We wound up limping the car into Appleton Audi where they replaced the spark plugs again along with one of the electrical connectors for the cam adjuster solenoids on each cylinder. I believe they did cylinder #5 connector.
The car survived the trip back home without incident but time will tell if it remains happy or if the issue comes back again soon.
