Any thoughts on the timing chain and tensioners? I've read on various forums that they're also a common point of failure. I'm in a similar boat to OP and looking at a '16 S6 with 75k on the clock and am concerned about the engine-out job.
@savagepandaprojects
@savagepandaprojects Месяц назад
You know I have never quoted one but if that is becoming a point of failure absolutely that'll break the bank. I know on the older 2.0L TSI motors they fail constantly, Never really saw them on the 3.0L S/C motors. I only owned my S6 for about 1 year and 10k miles of driving so fortunately gone before any major catastrophes.

A note to all you fellow C7 owners. I took mine in the shop (Audi dealer) for a suspention issue and she informed me the turbo waranty has been extended by Audi to 120,000 miles or 10 years. I have a '13 S6. So something to ask if your turbos go out and you're not going RS swap. I'm at 118,500 so it probably won't do me any good, lol. In the meantime change oil early, I do every 5k and do a periodic oil flush to keep that screen clean. I used liquimoly at about 90miles and it made brand new oil look like the 5k stuff in 15 minutes.

how hard is it to service and access the turbo oil screen? and if it is hard, couldn't you buy some aftermarket setup to install a oil screen bypass? In aviation, they use a calibrated spring, and if oil pressure increases due to a clog, the backpressure overpressures the calibrated spring, allowing oil to bypass around the oil pump at the clog. I'm wondering if there's some aftermarket device that would allow you to do that for these audi's
@savagepandaprojects

It's a very involved job to remove the oil screen. You can simply remove it or remove it and install the serviceable oil feed line relocation kits. Totally up to you!

Hello Diego! Yes lots to cover here. Main priority is getting your oil screen TSB done. Turbo failure is very common on these cars so would always budget for that as they may have some play in them and not be covered under warranty/recall. There is another recall for the PCV/oil separator as well so check with your local Audi dealer to see if your car has an open recall(s) for these issues. From a labor standpoint regardless if your dealing with a dealership recall, it would most efficient to have all of these done at the same time (oil screen removal, PCV, turbos, etc) I have a separate video covering my full stage 3 build so be sure to check that out :)

Thanks to Savage Panda Projects for the information. I own a 2016 RS7 stage 2 which was purchased with all work done, at 28,000 miles. This car flies at 42,000 miles now. I added a K&N air filter. Also, replaced those heavy stock wheels with HRE aluminum alloy monoblocks. The wheels reduced unsprung weight probably 10lb or more per wheel. The wheels are polished gold, which admirers claim "those wheels really make it pop". The car is red which is a good contrast with gold. The K&N and wheels together made the felt acceleration much greater. However, the DOWN PIPES made the biggest power gain, excluding stage ONE. Wheels are third on power gain. Note stock turbo's. Stage one is likely; timing advance, richening the fuel mixture and most important increasing the BOOST. Stage II, APR downpipes. The car is ready to produce a lot of gases and needs to exit through downpipes. The downpipes offer more power than your cat back systems however, add the cat-back if you have the $$$. Also, don't forget the all important X-pipe. This cheap mod increases torque and like downpipes sounds great through the exhausts. X-pipes is mfg. by APR. Additionally, a word about maintenance CHANGE YOUR OIL and FILTER every 3000-5000 miles and watch for oil losses and replace ASAP. IMO Audi would love to sell you a new car after yours expires after doing 10,000 mi. oil changes on your old car. They don't want your car to last to 300,000 mi. If you do frequent oil changes, you don't need to worry about the OIL SCREEN ISSUE. If the history of your car is unknown, make a judgement call, which should not include prophylactically changing your TURBO'S. Remember, increasing power is more about making several changes that produce a synergism of effects. Stage I II and III is only one way to go about it. The warranty extension on the turbo's to 120,000 miles and 10 years is correct. I received the letter in the mail from Audi the other day. Check with your dealer for details because I believe this is not an open ended deal. It probably does not include all causes of turbo failure.@@savagepandaprojects

The problem with the turbos is found in models prior to 2016, that is, those from 2012-2015 that come with 420hp. In 2016 with the 450hp version Audi already fixed it.

Revised the oil screen but it's still a flawed design. Long term solution is to eliminate it all together

@@savagepandaprojects how is it long term without those oil screens? Will it be safe after turbo upgrades

They revised the oil screens for the mid-2017 model year. Still nowhere near good. Issues are still present with the oil screen clogging and pcv getting stuck open. Just swap to RS7, TS1, or SRM +4mm and throw out the oil screen and replace the pcv while you're already that deep. That's what I ended up doing. Ole 4.0 is still going strong.

@@nigels6786 Turbo oil screens are basically useless. If you have debris that big passing through into your turbos, you have more issues than just oil buildup😂. With that being said, I don't run my screen and I know plenty of others that don't run it either. Put 40k on my S7 since the screen delete/new turbos and it's had ZERO issues thus far.

for the extended warranty (120k/10 years) Do the turbos need to fail first or can we ask audi to replace them even if they still work for free?

Would suggest starting by contacting your local audi dealership for more details. I would think they would replace them proactively to prevent the car from being inoperable. Thanks

Hmm, why I don't plan on tuning. Just did Spark plugs, coil packs, oil change, DSG flush and Brake Flush. What I'm considering next, dealer said brakes are worn to 6mm. ($1,000). Removal of oil screen and PCV Replacement. Quoted ($3,000).

Yep! German cars are certainly not the cheapest to maintain, gotta pay to play!

FCP Euro has a brake+rotor kit for the S6/7 for the front and back that cost $1200 USD. Zimmerman rotors and Forledo pads I think. They're pretty decent. If you want brake pads that make less brake dust, I'd look into the EBC Red Stuff pads on FCP Euros sight as well. I'm switching to those pads in a month or so, but from what I've heard is they're pretty similar to oem for wear/durability.
