Here in Japan, there has not been a single fire incident involving a Japanese-made EV. The batteries (Toyota-Panasonic, GS-Yuasa, Toshiba) used in Toyota, Nissan, and Mitsubishi EVs are all made in Japan. Japan's newest submarine (Taigei class) also Adopt and equipped lithium batteries (GS-Yuasa). An EV spontaneously combusted and caught fire at an AUDI dealer's garage, destroying eight vehicles. Since it was an Audi, I assume the batteries were made in Korea

@@jdwht2455 I used to own a 1971 VW Superbeetle. It was extremely easy to repair with minimal hand tools which I kept stored behind the rear seat along with some critical spare parts. I could purchase a rebuild kit for $205 US that included everything needed to rebuild the engine, including a new crank, pistons, "jugs" (cylinders), etc., and have the engine out, rebuilt, and reinstalled in less than 4 hours - even roadside, if needed. Modern VWs are expensive junk by comparison.

Audi engines are terrible. See I Do Cars for teardowns of these engines. At least they're not as bad as Ferrari/Maserati engines. Those were designed by certified idiots.

As an engineer myself, one thing often overlooked is total lifecycle cost. In the military, this is often referred to as “cradle to grave” costs. I see and can virtually predict that the same governments pushing EVs will slap EV owners with huge “disposal” fees/taxes to address the unspoken environmental issues/costs associated with dealing with these lithium batteries.

I’ve been a mechanic for 18 years at a dealership. We all thought when electric cars become a thing we are going broke…they won’t ever break right? (Bad for a mechanic).. instead it’s been the total opposite.. they are the biggest POS we’ve ever seen..so actually please folks..please keep buying them you’re making mechanics rich for the first time in history

I was in the trade for over 43 years and I knew this whole thing was going to go exactly where it is heading now. The thing is the biggest issue is the massive increase in fires that will be coming more frequently as the EVs age and are sold on to future customers. Insurance scams will be more rampant too as all it takes now is to high side the battery pack and its BBQ time for the vehicle.

A Volvo local to me caught fire while driving, it was flagged down and the driver got out, he saw the flames and tried to get the kids from the rear seats, but none of the doors would open, they had to smash the windows out to get the kids out, the driver suffered 60% burns as flames shot out from under the car. Luckily the kids were ok. The Volvo was brand new with no damage prior to this event. Ain't no way i'll be driving an EV.

Any damaged EV taken into an enclosed service bay should be fitted with cables attached to the bumper or frame so that the car can be easily dragged out if it catches fire. Firefighters shouldn't have to fight a vehicle fire indoors and also have to contend with protecting the building and all the other cars and equipment within. If I were an insurer, I would make that a policy requirement.

I wanted a Chevy Volt because of its convenience until my nephew crashed his used Volt in a very minor accident and had to replace the entire car when a gas car would have been repaired for about $2k. There's nothing protecting that battery which can't withstand any minor hit. We were also told they rarely need service which isn't true at all, and the service prices are through the roof. Listening to your channel sealed the deal. We purchased a regular gas car this time again. I'm disabled and need a reliable vehicle cuz all my doctors are on the other side of the county cuz the ones in my area can't handle chronic and complicated cases like me.

The fire brigades in the UK advise that you maintain a 15 metre radius between your charging EV and ANYTHING flammable. There have been cases where the EV was left charging just outside the owner's home garage, only to self-combust in spectacular fashion, setting fire to the garage and (by extension) the house. Ticking timebombs, the lot of them.

Yes, that statement has always been a lie. There are huge emissions, as well as environmental damages, from mining the components of the batteries. Child slave labor is used in some places to mine the cobalt and the lithium, and it takes a lot of "fossil fuels" (actually hydrocarbons aren't from fossils at all) to do the mining & provide the electricity. The whole "zero emissions" thing is a RORT.

just wait till the Tesla Semi gets released! one crashed on I-15 in California. the truck caught fire after running off the road. the highway was shut down in both directions for a full day due to the toxic cloud. Middle of summer, in the desert with no supplies.

I had a 2022 Nissan leaf. I drove it very gingerly and rotated the tires every 5000 miles. The original tires uniformly wore out at 13k miles. Way too early in my opinion. I had the suspension and the car checked over by the dealer to make sure nothing was wrong with the car to cause the excessive wear. When I asked the tire shop, they said it’s common. Sure enough there were two other EVs in the shop getting new tires when I had mine replaced and the other owners confirmed similar experiences. That’s ridiculous. Needless to say, it was my last EV.

Yesterday thousands of people in Lebanon were injured, and at least 9 killed, when their pagers simultaneously exploded in their pockets. At this point, it is not clear if there were actual explosives in the pagers or if someone figured out how to cause their Lithium Ion batteries to overheat and explode. If the pagers were hacked to make their batteries explode, what would prevent someone from doing the same to an EV?

That car fire did stacks of damage. It destroyed the lift, so they had to get it down by forklift. And the rest of the cars in the shop are likely written off with smoke and water damage. And it caught fire again as they were getting it down. The things are menace.

Every EV owner denies the extra wear on tires and Breaks(if they use them) but yet every piece of evidence proves other wise.... The problem is those not having the issue literally hardly do any mileage so will not notice it for sometime...

When the electric car craze crashes, all those 'companies' who received subsidies get to just walk away, leaving a colossal financial and environmental mess to the public to clean up. They will never live to pay the consequences, and they know it.

Where I think our host has it wrong, is in thinking that government mandates will be relaxed (to allows more ICE sales) when nobody buys EVs. Eventually, your choice will be EV or No V - and they won’t care if it’s the latter. In fact, they would probably prefer it.

Apologize if this has been addressed before, Teslas are heavy, 6000 lbs I think, which is the weight of my 3/4 ton diesel pickup, if your car is hit by one these especially at higher speeds, your vehicle is likely to sustain significant damage Kudos on the channel, I never miss an episode

Makes me sad about Jaguar. My grandfather had a 1964 E-series he outright babied, never took it out in bad weather - basically a gorgeous summer day car. Sadly sold it in the early 80's for like $7k, I shudder to think what it's worth today.

I bought a second hand victa off gumtree for $50. Changed the plug, oil and air filter. Works like a charm for two years so far. New one similar would be around $900.

@@sandralidster473 I've had some Jags and a TR6 that had miserably designed electrical systems, but far worst was a Porsche 928, BMW 850, BMW 635, Volkswagen sirocco and couple of Old Beatles, all overly complicated and under engineered and built with poor quality materials. I also worked for many years in industrial electrical and instrumentation and controls, and generally German industrial controls were always problematic, epically the Siemens industrial stuff like motor controls, switches and contactors. The French stuff was generally pretty good, and Japanese stuff logically engineered and reliable, but I've not seen anyone overall best American Electrical and Aviation engineering and products.

Yeah that is just what you need with a fire the temp of the sun... get it up near the roof! And then it can rain down the equivalent of white phosphorus artillery rounds on the workshop. Speaking of petrol cars going up, here in nz my 5litre AU XR8 Falcon went up over 5k in value in the insurance blue book this year. It was 7.8k 4 years ago, then 11k 3 years ago, 14k 2 years ago, 17.8k last month when I renewed the insurance it up to $23400! Gotta love a gasoline powered 302 V8! 😂

I've had a number of people recommend that I buy a tesla but I bought an ice Corolla instead. I can't tell you how much money I saved and how much I appreciate all that money staying in my pocket. Having a disposable car is one expense I'd really rather avoid.

Tire wear isn't just from torque or weight, it's also a result of the tires being lower rolling resistance tires that have higher wear rates. If you put standard tires on one they will lose as much as 30% of their range but gain tire wear.
