@@abraxastulammo9940 I did not know that because the motor from model 3 was the only change in 2019, but you're right. Wow, it's already 2 years since the taycan has been released! I did not expect that either, for me this was like a few months ago, I guess Corona messed up my timesense. But the audi is pretty much the same price (base price, probably a lot more expensive if you want a comparable car.) And yes, a different character all the way, I see that and also understand if you prefer an Etron over a tesla, it's not always only the stats that count. Personal Preference is sooo important in the cars industry.
@TeslaFanBoy2.3 (I may be duplicating someone else's comment, but it has already been deleted) The new versions of Model S and Model X have the internal name "Palladium". Just like the previous ones had the internal name "Raven". I think it will be good if the name takes root, because the use of the word "Raven" was useful for differentiation.
And that wasn't even the Long Range Model S but the Performance! 2021 Refreshed Long Range is now 200kg lighter than previous Raven model (2069kg), the CX is down from 0.23 to 0.208 and tempest aero hubcaps are now available! can't wait to see it tested!
@@colinbennett The mission E nailed it. Amazing. I couldn’t wait to buy one. The Taycan looks so off in proportions in comparison. The etron is extremely good looking and maintains the concept proportions. You’re right it’s all subjective. I would never yuck your yum. I thought it’d be driving the Porsche but the etron is much more visually appealing to me.
Completely agree with you, was a huge fan of the Taycan at unveil ( still am) but once I saw the GT all bets were off, it’s the most beautiful EV out there and just cars in general. It was the deciding factor in which one I ultimately chose.
Please note, that the New Model S charges 250 kW on V3 400V charger up to 30% SOC. And new SC 300 kW chargers are coming. So, there is no advantage for 800V systems for now. Maybe with new car models and new chargers on the dinosaurs' side, there will be a change. But it's in the future.
Every penny goes into research and development, and they have been at it since 2004, the whole team, not just some side kick team like with legacy automakers.
Exactly this they got some negative comments from some that the new S hasn’t changed much cosmetically, it’s clear they’re putting their resources into software, range, performance and batteries. For years traditional makers have been able to get away with cosmetic “improvements” with essentially the same vehicles. They can’t get away with this game much longer, as more customers dive into specs and compare features. Some will still insist on the brand cache and the warm feeling it gives them wrapped in their luxury badge and exclusivity.
The Tesla is 2019! The new S, both LR and Plaid, are better in every way. Better suspension, better performance (low and high end), faster charging. The fact that the 2019 is better electric car than those newcomers is quite amazing.
Mode S Long Range and Long Range Plus are basically the same cars. The Plus only came out in US after they did new EPA tests and they had to change the name of the car in order to do that. In UK they were never named Plus.
@@powersurge6878 I know, I just said I thought it was the long range plus, because no one calls the model S performance "long rage performance". Thanks for the comment.
Great video! Fell in love with the GT Vorsprung (non-RS) when I drove it a few weeks ago. Interesting that this at first glance looks like a non-Vorsprung with the Comfort and Sound Plus package? Any noticeable difference between the 20" and 21" in terms of ride with them both being on the air suspension (know you were complimentary in both this GT and GT RS videos about the ride)? Keep up the great content.
@@RSEV Excellent, thanks for the reply. Lovely car isn't it! Subject to a lottery win I'll hopefully have one on the drive soon ;) Keep up the great work!
I’d take the new Tesla model S long range all day long (yes I know it’s not in the uk yet) over the other cars. Better performance, range (by a long way), charging infrastructure, battery technology, OTA updates, ability for FSD when eventually released, infotainment system (with rear screen for passengers). Also my experience with legacy car makers is that they will still try and squeeze every penny out of you (BMW) for any possible error my car throws up (BMW i3) even when you know it’s literally most likely a software reset or very minor repair. Can’t wait to get away from legacy & own my first Tesla one day. I love the appearance externally of the other 2 but still think the new S looks great, and with all the other advantages it’s a no brainer for me
Interesting perspective. I don't have an EV but am looking at one of these 3. I don't care too much about the charging infrastructure. I do 4k miles per year and 90% of that is local. However, I do a European drive tour once every couple of years (!). I'm leaning towards the Porsche. IMO it looks the best of the 3. Still some reservations though as I'm not keen on everything being controlled by touch screen. All the others will catch up with Tesla on range and the premium German manufacturers will get faster... but speed becomes irrelevant when you get to sub 4s 0-60. I see it as... if you want sporty, dynamic, engaging and fun then its a Taycan. If you want luxury, comfort, infrastructure and range then its a Tesla. They're basically all stunning cars but aimed at a different section of buyers.
All of that means nothing when you have to wait a month-long queue to sign up for service, and when you do arrive they don’t have the parts you need. It’s great at many things but fails at actually being a car. My experience is too bitter to ever come back to it. Taycan FTW
I love these real world convoy/comparisons even with cars I'll never afford haha. While I admit the GT and Taycan have some strong points as an EV the Tesla wins hands down on all the truly important things like range, charging network, visibility, practicality and a good screen and app.
@@carlosbrazao6039 That's really the least important thing and totally subjective (I think the S is quite good looking, FWIW). I guess that's the difference between someone going for Tesla vs. a European car like the Audi or Porsche. Visibility is important and there's something to be said for range and such. But most important to me will always be refinement, build quality, NVH levels, body solidity, stability at highway speeds, ride comfort. To me, that's what separates cars in their various categories. The EV parts will be ironed out. But fundamentally, what makes a car great are those dynamic and build qualities I mentioned and not software or screens or apps.
Great. Any thoughts on the S/Plaid yoke? Americans seem split on it, but they don’t have mini roundabouts and the like to find and use the indicators while on almost full lock. Plus they don’t use them anyway on roundabouts . I would be surprised and disappointed if they are legal in many countries.
Great video! A great comparison between the three. Each has its own positives and I'd be torn between the three. I love the Porsche, because it's a Porsche, Audi because it's probably more a daily, more discrete, fast charge, and the tesla it's range. I'm steering towards tesla and it's range but much prefer the looks of the Porsche and audi.
Looks isn't everything! I have heard others say similar, well it's a Porsche. There is also something to be said about the new kid on the block! Good luck on your decision.
One consideration which may not matter to those who can afford these vehicles but the Audi/Porsche are still going to be expensive to maintain (comparable to their ICE alternatives). A service advisor told me the only thing that’s different is no oil changes service intervals and other maintenance is the same. Tesla on the other hand has some recommended items like cleaning brakes in salt areas but for the most part ongoing maintenance is not required.
I may have missed it but Richard, did you detail how much each of these monsters cost list price, spec'd as tested? I suspect the Model S is quite a bit more.....?
Actually, the Model S is the cheapest of the bunch, by a large margin(somewhere around 30%), because it comes with all the bells and whistles stock. For Audi and Porsche you have to tick around 30,000 in the candy store for extras, just to get where the Tesla is stock.
great piece. The fact that the Tesla is not only faster but far more efficient than the Porsche and Audi is quite probative of the difference in capabilities between the manufacturers. While legacy auto makes are able to produce beautiful EVs, the underlying technology is just way behind Tesla and the other upstarts. As to charging speed, no question that the Porsche/Audi are fast, but of course this requires a 350 KW station of which there are relatively few.
“If you were going to do a 1000 mile trip, you’d end up with about the same as far as charging is concerned” except that only the Tesla has the supercharger network!
B+O is the GOATed sound system. Harmon and Kardon is the next best. Love this channel btw. Would love to meet you in the future to talk everything electric 👌
It's funny how you say that the Tesla has better app connectivity when it can't even run Apple Carplay or Android Auto (which most people want these days)
I’ve just had a 68 plate Model X hire car ( 100). Wow, it was wollowy, on the free chargers in Yorkshire it was useless adding 50 miles in an hour and with a 14 mile round trip to get there. The acceleration was dismal and the steering had a delay on it. It was horrible to,drive and going back to the old screen and using sat nav on binnacle screen was horrible. I’m amazed how awful it was compared to my LR 3.
I agree, very dumb. This was a regulation that some stupid people in government came out with only for EVs. The great thing is that Tesla let's you put what ever sound you want instead of the boring buzz of the other EVs
@@renezr70 That's why Tesla allows you to change the sound in the first place, it's their way to give the regulators that forced this the middle finger.
My only gripe with boombox is the sound outside has to be the same inside I wish they’d push an update that would allow the two sounds to be independent. I’d like to play coconut sound effects outside while listening to my music separately.
Well, I would formulate it this way: Tesla has proven battery technology where several owners covered half a million km and more, while the others still have to proof its durability with the pouch cells.
Tesla has poor build quality compared to the Audi and Porsche. Here in the US, no one takes a second look at any Tesla as there are so many of them. The Audi looks like a real sports car and the Porsche looks like a Porsche. Overall, speed is not a factor unless you have access to a race track.
This whole faster charging advantage is a bit like saying, I can fill my SRT8 with more petrol, but only run 350kms with it. Why do you think Elon wants to open the Supercharger network to them at 50 cents a kw. Charging at 350kw doesn’t necessarily do their old battery tech any good either. Porsche and Audi owners generally don’t care, because they “need” to own a car longer than two years, leaving battery degradation to second or third owners…
@@justinholding02 IMHO the only proper Porsche is one with an air cooled 6-cylinder boxer behind the axle. I refuse to be embarrassed by a Plaid for the kind of money a Turbo S costs…
Meanwhile my Taycan is more comfy and slightly faster to roadtrip than my raven x. The wheel size on s does matter a good bit 21 vs 19 is almost 20%(maybe 15) I believe. Also range mode is just so nice, i trip in it and feel like you lose nothing in practicality but gain lots of range.
A shame the Audi registration plate lacks the green EV stripe. I think its important to promote EVs as much as possible and that's the whole point of the green stripe.
That's a UK thing? I didn't even know or notice. But I assume the point of the green stripe is not to promote EVs but to allow access to otherwise restricted city or parking zones?
How on earth can you say that the model s is as quiet as the audi??????? There is a MASSIVE difference between them. I have driven both these and the audi is VERY quiet whilst the tesla is actually very noisy even compared to other non premium cars!!!
Certainly in this video I had to turn down my TV when filming the model S because of the tyre roar. It was a lot louder than the other 2 cars. May have been the way the mic was set up. May be down to the cars
Prices change and will vary by country so it seems a little futile. People can easily see the price in their own region. I often mention comparable with used cars if in similar price bracket, much as these three are but to give the current list price is too often out of date/changed/wrong for viewer country etc
Long story short is that the Audi and Porsche will set you back almost double if you spec it to match the Tesla. Don’t forget mandatory VW Group servicing schedules…
You can’t pick between the build quality of the Audi and the Model S! I know you sell Tesla’s but need more honesty here. The Tesla is the more efficient car but panel gaps, finish and build quality are not its strong points.
I simply said the only one with a rattle is the Porsche 💁♂️. It’s true. I didn’t go into depth for panel gaps etc, although there is another video I made measuring paint thickness if that tickles your fancy and you want more from me …. I have to sell the Porsche too FYI…
I think the difference isn't big enough for most people to care. Sure if you put a microscope on everything, touch every material possible youll notice it. But if you drive your car like a normal human, you probably won't notice it.
this whole panel gap/build quality thing has gotten stale. The fact is that these cars are well made and highly reliable and durable. It's time to accept the fact that Tesla can build cars that are the equal of anybody in these superficial measures while being substantially better in the stuff the really counts. I can speak from experience having owned a Model 3 LRDM car for 2 years/29k miles. Best car I've ever owned. Nothing has gone wrong. Panel gaps are just fine. The car just gets better and better as software updates are pushed out.
@@dangrass honestly I've never cared to even look for panels gaps until I started noticing the comments on RU-vid. Went to my BMW and the gaps whilst better than Tesla, I never cared to look for them before. I think I just don't care about inconsequential things that I won't care about in 5 mins
To me the Teslas maybe better on paper but they are just bland. They are not beautiful cars. The Audi is a beautiful car. The new Kia is also very pretty. When Tesla bring out a desirable looking car I may consider one
We love the model S in the states and only wish it were cheaper so that more of us could afford. There is nothing bland about the body style, and the new redesigned interior is still non cluttered with less nobs sitting on the dash for looks. Once you configure the car, you don't need to push a lot of switches to totally enjoy the ride! Less it more!
I would expect the Tesla to be better in efficiency as it's been out far longer and has a longer real world development programme. The next generation Audi and Porsche will no doubt close the gap again on efficiency. They already have a better quality feel to them. The Tesla is just starting to look old hat now IMHO. They really need to bring out a newly designed Model S to compete with zee Germans..
Paul N Weird logic. "Better in efficiency as it's been out longer"...... Which would give "others" a chance to launch their latest technology against an "old" design! 😂😂
Many find the new kid on the block better efficiency, better value, better resale. Audi and Porsche built these over heavy, non-efficient vehicles at a time when Tesla is going to ramp up newer technology both battery and lighter vehicles that will make the divide even greater. The newly engineered Model S, even with the current body style will out sell the old brands 100 to 1.
Tesla and their fanboys are the kid in class that scores through the roof in tests, but nobody wants to hang out with them as they are not very cool and generally annoying. They are stat machines with less than no life. Such a boring vehicle after you get over the initial honeymoon phase with them. A fast box with a crappy version of an iPad strapped somewhere in the middle of the boring interior, why bother with it?
You clearly haven’t experienced one. I’m currently on a Taycan. I thought yeah, let’s get something that looks cool. But then I realised I was on the slippery slope of shallow materialism. The Teslas is way ahead in every other way.
I think it depends on what you want! Tesla are clearly a car built by a tech company so I’d say the materialism and tech is the bit that’s shallow! Yes it’s fast and more efficient however, if you want a drivers car, handles well that makes you feel connected with the road that’s well built and stylish then it’s the Porsche all day long
