Sensible Audi that happens to be electric absolutely sums it up. I've only had mine for three weeks now (selected in part because of your reviews) and one of the things I find weird is I have the "leather pack", and the seats are all leather, except down the left side of the drivers seat (where your arse goes, not the back of it), and the right side of the passengers. That's cloth, where it effectively is "hidden" by the center console. What's strange is I think I see in your car, which does not have the leather seats, it does appear to be leather down those sides. I find the audio controls on the center console a slight irritation. As a driver, I would never use that control because the steering wheel works well, so it's only for the passenger. Two trivial things though. The only thing I'm not that impressed with, and this is because I had a Tesla Model 3 before this, is just how bad the app is. But considering pretty much everything else about the Tesla was worse, this is a worthwhile trade-off.
Not being able to use the keyboard to enter a sat nav location when driving. I understand its for 'safety reasons' but (1) My passenger could, and on our old car (Audi A4) usually did, enter it and (2) it allows the handwriting recognition instead which is far more difficult than the keyboard, especialy as it's with my left hand and I'm right handed.
Thanks again for all the info. I can’t add to the gremlin list as I still don’t have the Q4 40 that I ordered in September 2022. The dealer said production is halted for a while and to plan on summer 2024. I think the car will have the updated battery chemistry, suspension and motor. The only option is a trailer hitch. At least I’ll know a lot about the car from watching all your videos! Good job!
Great video! - here are some ofmy quirks / annoyances. over the last 10 months. - 2023 Q4 E-tron 40 Sport. - Not allowed to see the radio text when driving - you have to be parked before you can press the info button to see what song is playing. ( Think some early versions of the software do not have this limitation) Mirror defrost function does not come on automatically - has to be manually switched on at the door switch. Bottle holders - great in theory - rubbish if you are in the back with a can . No rear armrest. Irritating that the car switches off when you leave the drivers seat. Vents in stupid place right behind steering wheel - in the summer - your hands get freezing cold and you cant get cold air onto your face. Same issue as you - bass speaker takes half of the under floor storage space - no place to store cables - a frunk could easily have been added / put the adjustable floor as standard in all vehicles. Plastic behind front seats easily scuffed and marked by small kids with their feet - why couldn't it have been cloth? Annoying plastic cap in the front grill where a 360 camera would go - looks cheap.
What software version do you have? Mine had the 3.2 update back in September and I can see what song is being played on the radio as I’m driving (as long as the radio station has transmitted it).🤔
The version I have is 3812 . The text does not automatically appear - when you press the radio text button - it states " For safety reasons, this text is not available whilst the vehicle is moving" really annoying considering how complex the MMI is at all times.

Thanks for your videos! I’m getting a Q4 e tron 45 feb/mar, so have been trawling all of RU-vid for useful content for the last 2 months. Yours by far have been the most informative and real world. Amazing that you’ve taken the effort to produce this ongoing series… and you’re really good at it. The 281hp should be interesting as I’ve only test driven the 201hp 40 s line like yours, which was plenty for me. It’s a first EV for us, fed up of £110 tank fills twice a week at 27mpg, and I couldn’t believe what a difference it was to driving my 2015 disco4 HSE. Made it feel like a complete dinosaur. B mode was amazing! Your long range videos have given me confidence that the q4 really is enough for 99% of driving situations, and the 1% longer range, I’ll just have to plan better like you 😂 thanks again
@@chrisgormley7939 yeah 201hp is plenty….but 281 is better lol. All the updated models have better spec so it should be fantastic 👍🏻 If you think the D4 felt like a dinosaur you should have seen what I had/ my daily was a 2005 Freelander and my spare car was a D2 auto (4 speed). I did do a video comparing the Q4 to the D2. Sold it a few months ago but I miss it already😔 Don’t miss the fuel costs though 🫣
I’m having a good experience so far with my US spec 2024 Q4 50 (sw ver 3842) but these quirks could have been avoided: can’t set steering wheel heat or mirror heat to turn on automatically with the seat heaters in cold temps, bass-treble-subwoofer sliders don’t fit on single screen so you have to scroll up/down just to make three basic sound adjustments, when playing a music file from folders on USB media, you have to return all the way to the media Home Screen and navigate through the entire folder list every time you want to select another album folder (there is no way to “return” to the last place in the folder list once you select a song), no TPMS tire pressure display, and my overall favorite: slightly different tire sizes front and rear for no good reason other than “oops, we messed up our tire loading calculation and this was the easiest fix!” No tire rotations for you!
Thanks for this mate. I agree it has its quirks the delayed windscreen wash being the worst. Been told because I have headlamp washers and car has to decide if my lights are on to clean them too. Also I've scratched the silver paint on the steering wheel. I also have an A4 Avant which has most of the bits of tech of the Q4, they are much quicker to load.
The delayed screen wash doesn’t look that bad in the video, but when you’re driving it seems so much longer! I don’t have headlamp washers so they can’t use that excuse for mine😂
Hi. It depends on the model as well. We have finally received the Edition 1 which we waited an astonishing 2 years for and your videos have helped us tremendously, so thank you. The thing that stands out for that car is the Kitt (from Knight Rider) light opening and closing light show which is entertaining and also the changing in the digital matrix light signature which is a pointless feature but makes it stand out. Also a quirk that for such a highly spec'd vehicle, it does not have a heated steering wheel which is beyond us?
I have a flat spot when I have been breaking, like going down a road with speed bumps, when you accelerate to pull away, it has a huge flat spot. Same pulling out of a junction on a slight incline. Nearly had a bike embedded in the side of the car. Off for investigation next month !!
I noticed an issue on my Q4 the other day. I'm not sure if it's developed lately or I've just not noticed before. When I have the radio on and I hit my heated rear screen the radio sound goes off ! Happens every time. Also I have the Sonos sound system and am getting an annoying buzz from the top centre dash speaker on certain frequencies. Especially the sat nav sound. I need to take it back to Audi as its driving ne mad.
Hi, I think it’s to stop scaring ICE drivers away. A “normal” automatic usually has Park, Reverse, Neutral and Drive from top to bottom. The Q4 has the same with the P button, then R, N and finally D/B at the bottom. There’s maybe a more logical reason but I think it’s that simple lol. Our BMW i3 has D at the top (twist up) and R at the bottom (twist down).
Hi mate Quick one for you and happy new year Can you see where the option is to pre heat the cabin with using the car charge while charging option is it was there but I can’t find it now?
@@edinreviews no because when e first for our cars if we pre heated it would draw from the battery even if plugged in. But it’s been changed now to use power from the charger so your battery is 100 percent but I can’t for the love of me find the option in the app anymore it was there tho
Negatives for me. no way to permanently turn off Lane departure, no usb or 12v in rear, no arm rest or cup holders in the back, no passenger mirror light, Navigation is €1300 and only for 3 years, dual zone climate is €350 extra, no radio text, car preheat is only on or off with no windscreen or other options (probably an extra), sound on std speakers on spotify even at low quality sound 10 times better than any fm radio station and lastly the really annoying one spotify skips or stops for 1 second several times an hour.
Some of your issues are country/spec dependent. I think the 2024 updates improve the equipment levels. The lane departure is a legislation issue. You can switch it off easily by pressing the end of the indicator stalk. Mine has no arm rest or usb in the rear, but I think that may have changed since 2021 when mine was built. My kids don’t miss the cup holders as they always have bottles which fit nicely in the bottle holders in the doors. Mine is a standard S-Line with no options. I do have a passenger mirror light and sat nav (not time limited), 3 zone climate and radio text. Preheat options on the app include choosing to heat the glass as well as picking whether or not to heat the front seats individually. New models also have battery preheating. I don’t use Spotify but I listen to the radio and Apple Music all the time and I’ve never had and issue with the either the sound quality or it stopping and starting.
