I've done the foot press thing too. Why not? It's way easier on some of those tough ones sometimes. It's nice to see a video of this being done in a driveway and not in a fancy shop with a hoist and all the cushy things. This is how I do most of my work so it's good to know it can be done.
Thanks for the real-world application - on your back wrenching! Last summer I replaced all the front suspension components on my B7 quattro except for the front forward control arms; I need to buy the steel sleeve insert just in case the come out with the arms. Also replaced the cv axles. Keep up the good work, we all appreciate it.
Your advise to use the oil filter vise grip is wonderful. This helped today's job go very well. Concerning loosening the nut on the conical shaped ball joint stud, I use a socket wrench instead of an impact wrench to avoid having to deal with the spinning stud. However, if indeed the stud spins, a curved jaw vise grip (that's very tight on the portion of the stud that's under the rubber boot) has stopped the spinning for me. Thanks for all your videos!!!
Never thought to loosen a nut and bolt on the nut side first especially on an older 3 inch bolt. When I was doing it on my control arm, I was praying the bolt doesn't snap. Your method is sooo much smarter. Thanks.
See the HEadlight adujusting sensor hanging from the upper control arm, "i think" well on my car my headlights were bobbing like a fish on a tight line so i disconnected it. My question is do i have tp replace both or can i inspect to see what happened to them. Great video again, I need to do this soon!! mine are knocking and cracking
Very timely video as the right rear lower control arm bushing just started to leak the hydraulic fluid, probably because the car was on the jacks for a few weeks with wheels on, and the bushing tore not being able to hold the wheel’s weight due to its age. Would you say that rear lower control arms wear out faster than the front lower arms?
@@NaptownTuner thanks! I guess I’ll just replace the rear front lower control arms, then, too tired of working on this car after doing upper timing chain tensioners.
Ive done this twice on two different A4 B8's now... The first was a piece of cake like it is in this video but the second one im fighting tooth and nail because the ball joint is stuck in the sleeve. Im going to try using heat to get it out. Can you do a video on getting this ball joint out if its siezed in the sleeve? I think there arent any videos on RU-vid covering that.
For anyone who needs to know, I used map gas and heated the knuckle around/above/below the ball joint for a good 3 - 4 minutes to expand the knuckle and the sleeve and then used a ball joint separator to pop out the ball joint. I also had to modify my ball joint separator by grinding out various bits to make it fit.
Naptown you should pick up some cheapo b6 audis , 3.0l avkbgn, 1.8t and the 3.2 a d explain the benefits top each setup , their relatively cheap cars and in my opinion one of the best in the road bang for buck
