It was obvious from the start who's gonna win, Audi has + - 17 more HP and is 100kg lighter, also has automatic gearbox, nicer interior, but I'd still choose Focus RS :)

RS3 for me. I know, Focus RS is more of a driver's car and its faster round the track, but.. Its still a hot hatch, not a weekend trackday car. Therefore I want it to have a nice interior and a good infotainment system (Sync2 is sh!t), I also want it to sound good (and that 5-cyl engine sounds brilliant) and look good and have somewhat a soft ride. And for me, the RS3 is a better car, although I still love the RS

The RS is a better hot hatch, the RS3 is a better all-arounder. But since both are supposed to be hot hatches, doesn't that make the Focus RS a better car ? Think about it.

+Kaisuke971 I've thought about it.... No. Whole point of a hot hatch is it's an every day car not a sports car. If sports is all you want then yeah go for the Focus but if you want every day comfort and pleasing surroundings in day to day traveling with the capability going away from main highways into twistier back road and be be enjoyable and capable like a hot hatch is supposed to be the buy the RS3 or a Golf R or a Focus ST or a Golf GTi. At the end of the day we're all gonna buy what we like for our own reasons so that's good right?

RS3 is a fast luxury car... to bes honest, if you put the same tyres the RS has on the RS3, the RS3 would win every lap comparo, and in a straight line, its no contest

NZsarge1 No, the whole point of an hot hatch is to be a sportier version of an everyday car. Even in your daily commute, an hot hatch will make you feel like you're in a sport car, for a fraction of the price: that's the whole point. And btw, the Focus RS is actually not a bad place to be. It's not an Audi, but it's nice _enough_ . People that are in these market seek for a car that's not too complicated, not too expensive, practical and of course fun. The RS3 is probably the most boring Hot hatch on the market driving-wise, just saved by its engine. It understeers a lot under stress, and only comes with an automatic gearbox. It's too grown up for the genre... I think Mercedes just hit that sweet point where it's a Mercedes, but it's still mad with its handling, sound, even the gearbox can be violent. But hey, "if you buy a performance car for its interior, you're nuts anyways" according to Chris Harris. To each their own.

+Kaisuke971 I'll tell you why I think the RS3 is a better proposition than the Focus RS. It's better at the driving the average person will be doing 99.5% of the time as quick as anything else in its class. When the wick is turned up but it won't jar your bones out on a daily commute. It's not as one dimensional as some would have you think, in fact it less of an under steerer than the Merc AMG hatch and more adjustable in its handling It may not oversteer like the Focus but if your doing that on public roads then you're driving too fast, it's one thing to drive quickly but to be drifting a car on public roads in most circumstances is just dumb. So given that that I'm not an asshole like that I'll take the RS3 (or a Golf R if your budget is smaller) have something that's doing the job better 99.5% of the time.

in gear acceleration looks pretty similar though, on every gear change the focus rs looses 5-10 km/h to the audi.... seems it stabilizes to around 20 kmh difference in speed

Victor Parker Thats a personal taste, I dont find any issues with RS interior, a friend of mine who has even a Audi RS5 along with Focus RS has no issues with Ford jnterior.

Victor Parker Yes it is, Some are obsessed with interior and details, While some care more about what thr car is about and how it drives and how it handles The RS is one such car,its main focus is to give customer all benefits of a regular Ford Focus while being way more superior to drive than most of its direct rivals, And M2 is not at all Fords direct rival Focus RS rivals,Type R,Golf R,Leon Cupra SC,Megane RS 275 etc, and in their company its perfectly fine.

Problem with cars today is people forget the extra cost of ownership that come with it. Plenty of VAG cars for sale 2nd hand, usually because people who do not have the budget for the maintenance. Some maintenances and repairs can cost as much as a simple commuter car. the RS3 is the better car, but not 20K better. So hold your horses once heavy maintenance comes in.

Audi rs3 will get its facelft in early 2017, so you will get additional power and more technical stuff like matrix LED and virtual cockpit

Well, lets see, the Ford has a 4 cylinder with a similar KKK k16 to the old TTRS... the RS3 has a 5 cylinder with a similar turbo but bigger impeller and inducer... in order for the RS500 to put out anywhere near the power some sources are claiming it would need a new big ass K24 or EFR turbo...and it would lag like a dog... The New RS3 for Mid 17 gets a new block and Turbo... itll do 350kw plus on stage 1

The previous RS ran from the beginning of 2009 till the end of 2010. So I'd say you should be able to get one at the end of 2017 early 2018 (it released in april this year so probably ends april 2018). +carguy82 I expect the RS500 to be a stage 1 RS with some weight reduction. About 380 hp with 50 kg of weight loss would be my guess. So, like now, it won't be able to beat the RS3 in a straight line but that's not what the RS is about anyway.

Not gonna lie, the Audi is better in terms of speed (has a dsg gearbox as well), interior etc but for the money, with 4wd and 350bhp I'd honestly take the RS.

i know audi has a better finished interior relative to ford but i am struggling to see the "luxury" everybody talks about in that RS3? Had a B8 audi a4 quattro proline and now the focus RS and I cannot say audi was (significantly) better quality inside. True they are different generation cars separated by about 4-5 years of development but Audi was not that luxurious just more sombre design inside. Unless you add who knows what options for inside the car say some special multimedia or aluminum inserts they are not that far apart as people keep saying the whole time. The engine in RS3 though is a masterpiece...

Focus RS is heavier than the RS3. Even though it has a manual box. It's to heavy. I've test drove one and couldn't wait to get back into my manual Golf R.

Tim Kirkpatrick Haha. I thought the same too when I hopped back in my Golf R. I had great intentions on trading her in. I can't get used to the interior and the suspension is just too much on my back. I'll wait till the RS3 comes to the states and get it. Till then I will have a blast in the R.

I'm a Ford fan, but over 100 kilos of difference between Focus and RS3 is not acceptable. Like the 80 kilos between Focus ST Diesel and Golf GTD. Ford have to return make fast car seriously! 350hp is not enough if the car weighs like a suv. C'mon Ford, 1.6 tons Focus?

The fact that the RS is even being compared to the RS3 is a win for the focus. The price difference is huge, 9k from stock plus Audi like to rinse you on the extras. The RS really should be pitted against the S3 to be a fair comparison.

if you take a look at Ford's weight, the ford is havier which means less speed, ford has 350hp, audi has 367hp, which also means less speed.. so if the ford had 367hp and if it wasn't that heavy then i'm not sure audi would win :) and also audi has 2.5l engine, still makes it better.. let's be honest, audi's not a bad car but all it's meant for is straight roads, while ford can go really fast on the road turns... i would definitely choose RS for that price, but not the new one, but the mk2

Focus RS is a really car, sensations car , limited units, the rs3 is a car but you can ask fabric, more luxury, but less sportsmanship, pure sensations, fun. the focus is much more effective in circuit, curve, mountain, is the king. Ford has done a great job

The Audi RS3 inside is plain as well. My friend has an Audi A3 s-line with the leather seats and it looks almost identical for £25,000 more than a normal A3 you want it to look better inside. That said the Focus RS is even worse inside but you can let it off for the price difference between them. Focus wins for me overall but the Audi is still great and has more prestige. I mean if you wanted to ride in one of them most people would pick the Audi. But to own one of them I would want the Focus.
