It’s the one you’ve all been waiting for - the new RS3 is taking on the AMG A45 S!
…oh, but we’re not done there! We’ve also brought in a BMW M2, a Porsche Cayman GTS and a Golf R for this epic drag race!
Right then, let’s look at the stats. Starting with the new RS3, it’s powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged 5 cylinder that puts out 400hp & 500Nm of torque. Alongside it, we have the A45, with a 2-litre turbocharged 4 cylinder that produces 420hp & 500Nm. It’s heavier than the RS3 though, weighing in at 1,625kg compared to the Audi’s 1,570kg!
Next up we have two rear-wheel-drive cars - the BMW M2 and the Cayman GTS. Under the Bimmer’s bonnet, you’ll find a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six that puts down 410hp & 550Nm. As for the Porsche, it’s powered by a glorious 4-litre flat-six engine that delivers 400hp & 420Nm. It’s also the lightest car here, weighing in at 1,480kg… However, it’s also the only manual in this line-up!!
Then finally we have the Golf, with a 2-litre turbocharged 4 cylinder that puts out 320hp & 420Nm. It weighs in at 1,550kg, and it’s the cheapest car here, setting you back £40,000.
Will it be a walkover for the Audi? There’s only one thing left to do… LET’S RACE!

This is interesting. At medium speeds, where the all-wheel drive no longer comes into play, a rear-wheel drive vehicle has an advantage. It is also clear that the 6-cylinder engines have an advantage when it comes to pulling through.

I think nearly all these AWD systems are part-time so the usual "drivetrain loss" argument is less of an issue. Not sure about the RS3 and 45s but the R definitely is. Probably what mattered more here was more cylinders - more linear delivery of power instead of a spike in the middle of the rev range like in most 2 litre 4 cyl.

@@hppf768 I don't know him mate, I just observed the performance of the Golf R. As a car enthusiast. I am not a fan boy generally, I like cars of every country or company. What we've seen today, was the obvious performance of Audi Rs3 and that the Golf R kept up with the higher powered cars. In fact, I've hadn't seen in a long time such a good performance of a Volkswagen. They are usually kinda meh cars.

i wish you all had a cayman in pdk instead. it already had so many disadvantages...NA, RWD, and manual. the rs3 and a45 look sooo hot! i wish we get those in the US. i had an m2comp (sold), but i've got a cayman gts 4.0 (pdk) on the way now, so i would have loved to see the matchups with one in pdk. i agree with the folks who pointed out how impressed they were with the golf r though. as long as you're not tracking it, that is probably the best bang for the buck performance of the cars. anyway, great video as always! keep them coming please!!!

It's actually quite limited for tuning. 450bhp max for reliability. Rs3 can go to 560bhp with a software change and downpipe. And bigger turbo for up to 1000bhp

@@thechillbox2696 335i is fun but its slow as sh!t and unreliable. Got rid of my Auto, FBO 335i recently when I got gapped by one of my buddy Fk8 Type R, and all he had was a base map tune. I got him on the dig, but the roll he embarrassed me. Thinking of getting the M2 Comp.

I like your show very much, but a quick suggestion I think when doing Drag races, perhaps try to switch cars after each race just to see if it's not the driver who is having a lot of racing experience than others and that's its actually how the car performs.

The Golf R was the most impressive here for it's price and how competitive it was. But I'd have to see some REAL TRACK times Mat, with turns you know? If only the Golf came in one of those beautiful Greens like the Audi and Porsche.

I disagree. It lost by aporox 25cars rolling, it was close only to the manual porsche which would have been the fastest car had they had a pdk, it can't do a proper donut, compared it has an interior and exterior that looks much cheaper. Its fine not a bad car i had a couple myself but it clearly does not compete.

For the money I’d take the Golf. It is kind of odd though that I’ve seen that Golf R do 12.3 and in this race it was 12.7.

Right the golf was getting 12.3 Everytime. Now it's much slower. I think VW turned it down so it doesn't keep up with cars 30k price. In America the golf is 25k to 30k cheaper than all these cars so yeah golf for the win for me. I use to own that AMG GLA 45 Mercedes and it was trash my VW GTI was a better car.

@@comeberza if money wasn’t an issue I’d take the Porsche. But, bang for buck, that Golf R is a bargain compared to the other cars in the race. A quick ECU tune and it’s running right with them. I do agree that VW dropper the ball some of the new infotainment features. The M2 is cool, but if I’m getting an M2 I’m getting the Competition or the Comp CS.

The golf R is honestly a good bang for money. The m2 would be my choice, the porsche is a dreamer too. Well i will put last the last two despite they got amazing engines ( the screaming 4 cylinders for the mercedes amg and the 5 cylinders for the audi RS, two of my most beloved car brand also )

Despite being last at each race and braking, Golf VIII R is impressively good. He performed much above expectations taking into consideration lot less power than others and the lowest purchase cost.

Great Drag race!! In the first few drag races with the Mk8 Golf R it was doing 12.3/4 but in the last few videos its been in its now doing 12.7s. Love to see a comparison between the press car and customer cars to see why there is a difference

It's the extra power delivered by the advertising dollars. You notice this happens in every video when a new car gets reviewed only for it to slow down to actual real world performance levels when compared with the new latest and greatest.
