The C6 Audi S6 can now be had for well under $20,000. A well maintained one can be an excellent performance and luxury bargain.

thinking to buy one can you give me some tips of what to look at when i go and see the car? thanks
@BuzzytheBlue
@BuzzytheBlue 7 лет назад
Heineken Please I'm thinking of doing a video on this specifically with how many people are considering them haha. Here's the most important ones; carbon buildup, intake manifolds, and good basic upkeep (oil changes, injectors, plugs etc...). Make sure you start the car when it's COLD before you buy, if it shakes or misfires, it needs carbon cleaned. If it shoots injector codes or misfires, it probably needs carbon cleaned ($800-$1,000). Otherwise it may feel sluggish or down on power. Really black tail pipes can be a sign as well. Particularly if the rest of the car appears to have been cleaned recently. As far as the manifold is concerned, it's a $4000 part and could go at any time really. Audi sells a refreshed one and recalled some so definitely check to see if it's already been done. If it has, you're in the clear. Otherwise, honesty I'd make sure you budget for it. Beyond these things the cars have no catastrophic issues or major failure points. Ours has 160k and going strong as ever. Hope that helps.

Carbon clean any S6 with more than 60k miles. Buy the highest mileage, cleanest, no warts car you can find - you can find them for $10-15k. Plan to spend another $5-7k replacing the intake (revised intake just released - $1800), phenolic spacers (JHM $300), Tune, catback and lightweight 2pc brake rotors - all from JHM. Send the injectors out to be cleaned/flowmatched (plan to buy at lest 4 new ones), coils are actually not that bad if you keep the plugs in good condition. You'll end up with a 12sec 1/4mile luxobarge with an exhaust note that provides so, so many grins per mile. At the end of this, you'll have a $90,000 car you're into for $20k that'll last another 60-80k miles without any other major maintenance. The V10 is generaly bombproof. As is the Quattro drivetrain. The intake is fragile and will most likely fail at some point and seems mileage independent for failure rates (hence the audi redesign on a 10yr old car)Optional; transfluid refresh - it makes a big difference in those lazy shifts. At the end of the day, it's performance luxury sedan that cost the better part of $100,000 - just because the car itself has depreciated, the parts and labor to maintain them have not. Nothing is more expensive than a cheap Audi.Everything you'll ever wanna know about the C6S6 audirevolution.net/forum/index.php?topic=2614.0
@BuzzytheBlue
@BuzzytheBlue 7 лет назад
Agreed 100%. The fact that JHM is finally picking up the slack as far as the modding scene for these goes is excellent. The reliability of the drivetrain of these cars has been the most surprising thing for me. You don't go into a V10 Audi expecting it to be reliable and fairly head ache free.

80k is when you clean at run no ethanol 91 octane and up and ride the fucker hard if you don't it carbons up you have to let it ripp every drive a few times period it does have high compression if you use low octane predestination is a risk and dumb asses have plugs burnt off its there fault.

i bought one but avant version last year for 13k euro to try this Audi v10.when i bought it,it was 170k km and it costed me like 4k euro to refresh it.still it is the cheapest v10 u can buy in Europe.and now it can do 0-200 in around 19 sec,i think i get it 90% back.first of all let´s forget the 435 hp, my car has key-less,soft-close,4 seat heating, navigation,2 zone automatic air condition, led day running lights,alcantara+full leather, carbon fiber interior, camera, bose,and so on.how much you need to pay for all of this?and a v10 which can let you fell "something" about performance.yes is not "that" fast, not so beautiful now, and 20l/km in the city, but others are all perfect.i drove 20k km in the last 7 months since i bought it, traveling around, sending my baby to kindergarten,giving some friends a ride with 4 bug luggages.u can use it just as a a6 avant in 4 season.it is comfortable and quiet(under 3k rpm),with the help from Quattro u won´t be afraid to use the 435hp on snow.but when you need,95% of the cars on the road are behind you.i tried 280km/h once on autobahn.the only thing it can´t do is track, but who will with a big wagon?i tried the c7 s6 once, it is better, down to 15l/km in the city,10 on highway, faster,good looking.if you have a family and can only have 1 car, a wagon which can reach 100 in 5 sec with 4wd is the best choice, and Audi can make it.i like Audi but only 3 cars:s6,rs6,r8.r8 for me is a dream, but i´m trying to buy a faceleft c7 rs6 in 2 years.now it is around 90k euro at least.but 1 thing is not good,i was thinking to buy a 2nd car for me(my wife dose´t drive),but a s6 makes me need nothing.the only car in my mind is a diesel bmw 1,small,fun to drive,6l/km diesel in the city.anyway,good car for me.i won´t sell it in the future.

Thanks for reminding me we didn't get the Avant here in the States :( I think as long as people know what they're getting, the C6 makes the perfect daily luxury car. Also, check out what JHM has been doing to the V10 S6s, they recently got one into the 12s in the quarter mile. (They have a video up on youtube) I'd love to see an Avant modified like that!

Great review thanks. Looking at cashing in my E39 M5 having had 4 Year’s trouble free (low mileage) motoring, and I think you’ve confirmed this is probably the next (family friendly/ low mileage) car for me.
@BuzzytheBlue
@BuzzytheBlue 6 лет назад
As an all weather alternative to the M5 (plus a far more modern interior), they stack up really well. My biggest tip when buying is to find out whether the intake manifold has been replaced or not. If/when the plastic flaps inside fail, it’s $4k for a new manifold. So either find one thats had it done or budget for it maybe needing one in the future. It’s not guaranteed to break but it does happen to some cars. Other than that, carbon buildup is really these cars only other flaw. Surprisingly reliable beasts. Best of luck and thanks for watching.

Ryan Cameron Thanks man, much appreciated. Ours has 155k right now and running strong as ever! There's a fuel additive that VW/Audi sells that helps to prevent carbon buildup as well, we use it, may be worth checking out.

VW/Audi G17 fuel additive. We do it around every 3,000 miles. Between the way we drive it (hard), and this, we probably won't need to ever carbon clean it again.

All-season tires suck in all seasons. If you have an S6 you should be on summers or winters. Never all season. Because all seasons suck in summer and winter. Winter tires aren’t just about snow traction. Winter tires are about 30 degree pavement traction, as well. The tire compound in modern sport winter tires is phenomenal. Pilot Alpin PA4/5 will outperform all season tires on cold pavement *and* in snow/ice/slush. Also that 5.2 is derived from the dreaded 4.2 so beware the timing chain guides and tensioners, also

Thank you for your review, this review made me consider a S6 - im getting it mechanically checked today!! Will let you know how I get on. PS im looking at upgrading from B6 S4 Manual to one of these due to the interior and space - plus a V10.......!!
@BuzzytheBlue
@BuzzytheBlue 7 лет назад
Neil Chappell Neil Chappell Really glad you liked the review! Our first S6 was an almost accidental find; we had gone to a lot looking at a B6 S4, decided it was too small (and quiet as it was stock) and hopped in a FAR more expensive S6 with Milltek exhaust, fell in love instantly and ended up bringing it home.
@totaltrackbikehire-ownedby4688
So I had the S6 Mechanically checked out, the owner said it was carbon cleaned 3 months prior with some good service history....So I flew half the length of my country to view and test then purchase the car...unfortunately after 5 hours of ownership the plastic parts in the Inlet manifold started to let go.....huge rattle created. Into the shop, stripped it apart and someone had been in there and lock wired the plastic parts together as they were broken! The car is no fantastic but had plenty of things shortcutted and fixed/maintaned but poorly. My only suggestion to people looking at the C6 S6 is find out if the Inlet manifold has been replaced - after research you find out they all break down internally and cannot be repaired without full manifold replacement. Bar this issue the car is fantastic, turns and stops better than I expected coming from a S4, the economy is very similar to the S4 - shame im having to run without the 2 stage flappers in my manifold, we had to gut it and run it open - a new manifold is over 8500 dollars in New Zealand which I cannot justify. This hugely reduces the engines torque :-(
@BuzzytheBlue
@BuzzytheBlue 7 лет назад
Neil Chappell Sorry to hear that, Neil. Seems like the previous owner may have pawned that issue off on you unfortunately. Also, the refreshed manifold is about 4000usd so I wonder if you could source one and have it shipped from the States. Just an idea.
@totaltrackbikehire-ownedby4688
Yes it was one of those deals that was a little to good to be true. However even with the issues fantastic car, would never look back now. Yes that US part option looks far more achievable!! Thanks again
@totaltrackbikehire-ownedby4688
I bit the bullet grabbed a new manifold out of the US of A. Also put some manny spacers on it to keep the manifold cooler. The car was very drivable with a gutted manifold but other problems arose so was better to put a new one in. Best daily driving car ever - my 2 year old just says “faster faster” anytime we are out for a drive. hahahhha.

Which is better of the V10s the S6 or S8? S6 seem lighter with less possible maintenance issues than the S8. All the possible electrical issues scares me. Less bells and whistles seems better. Thoughts please. Great vid too.
@BuzzytheBlue
@BuzzytheBlue 7 лет назад
Skrawny2Brawny Thank you! They are overwhelmingly similar actually. The S6 and S8 are mechanically identical aside from the slightly different tune of the S8 (hence more HP). And the weight difference isn't substantial either. I'd go with whichever you could get the best deal on/enjoy the interior/looks of. The S6 is likely the sharper handler though.
@Divine_Serpent_Geh
@Divine_Serpent_Geh 6 лет назад
Skrawny2Brawny Great question and one I wondered about for a long time. Until I found out, the only way you can really know what I’m telling you is to drive them. But here’s my experience. 2 TOTALLY different cars in terms of character. Straight line speed and handling are very similar although the S6 being smaller and lighter likes to be thrashed a bit more. It’s like comparing an A6 4.2 vs A8 4.2, the 6 is a tighter sportier feel, more eager to react, the 8 is a more stately and luxurious feel, more relaxed, more comfortable (air suspension), its a limousine, yet still retaining a sporty character when you want it too. But it’s natural ability is definitely being a big cruiser. Personally when it comes to the A8s, if you’re going for the big engines, I prefer the big, silky W12. I think it suits a huge barge like that better. But that’s just me. The C6 A6s are damn solid because as mentioned in the video, everything trickled down from the D3 A8, which is a very reliable car being such an expensive machine. Of course there are some things that you don’t have to worry about on the 6s that you do on the 8s. It really comes down to what you want, only driving them can you see what you enjoy more.

Gary Xu If you’re just after speed alone then the 3.0t cars are the ones for you. To me the “specialness” of the C6 S6 and it’s place as one of the three production V10 sedans ever is worth the lack of tune-ability. Plus, carbon cleaned and well maintained they are plenty fast.

@BuzzytheBlue
@BuzzytheBlue 7 лет назад
There's not a ton, but there's much more right now. JHM makes intake spacers, free flowing exhaust, lightweight crank pulley, tune, and lightweight rotors (like 30-40 pounds saved total) and they got one into the 12's using that setup. Those mods are fairly cheap as well. Biggest thing is to ensure that it's free of carbon, that saps power like crazy.
