Audi tech: Are the Virtual Mirrors any good? 

Very informative video! Saw your complaints on IG. Understandable that you don’t want to order them again... maybe next time, Audi will make VM as standard and normal mirrors will be an option 😂

Rather than the digital mirrors, maybe getting the Digital LED Matrix headlights might have been better option and more usefull.

I agree with the no depth as your looking on a screen. Also if someone damages the mirrors they are going to cost a lot to replace. As well the Audi dealership said they cost a lot as Audi has to recalibrate all the cameras too

Agreed. Luckily most of the issue illustrated seems to be specific to the particular implementation. The ones fitted in the Honda e seems to works much better (starting with the position/orientation of the screens) and are in general well liked by their users. One thing that they all could do in the future is some kind of head/eyes tracking, as a way to adjust the image perspective in a more practical and natural way, maybe.

I completely agree with you, its not worth the price and driver experience is worse with them

Excellent review and comments. I agree 100% with all of your conclusions. There are too many issues with the camera mirrors, which no amount of redesign and rejigging is going to fix.

Definitely room for improvement. Personally I would like see the display screen moved to behind the sun visors and to stich together the view from more rear view cameras too including a camera replacement for rear view mirror. All 3D to reduce need to tilt head for perspective and matrix tint to reduce headlight glare. Enhanced by lidar for nighttime. Will give one uninterrupted virtual wraparound rear and side windscreen at eye level

Great vid. I am not surprised that you would not spec them again. The thing is mirrors on a car are VERY important (imo) and to replace them with cameras which can have various problems just isn't a good idea. I love technology but sometimes if something isn't broken why fix it? Take care 🙂

I would never spec these just for the looks alone. These thin "mirrors" just look silly like tiny T-Rex arms that stick out of the sides of your car. I think the way how Kia implemented it with the normal side mirrors + camera view in the gauge cluster is just perfect.

The extra range is already negated by replacing them three times within two years. My colleaguehas one and is not happy with the mirrors.

Skipped them as well.. by the way, did the dealer allow you to paint the rims black? I would like our e-tron all blacked out, but no completely black rims available when ordering..
