For a Pro version, EtherCon for the Dante would be great. Personal I would love a version then with redundant connection possibility.

How is the audio quality though. There is an analog to digital and digi to analog conversion that happens with the XLR ones. Is it quality converters? Want for music studio application.

Re: Licensing, when you talked about the USB Version: These would be essential. Apparently, you are only ever allowed to have the license tied to one machine. Forever. How do I know? My DVS License was recently locked, because I switched my production laptop to many times. Never installed on multiple machines at the same time, only ever used it on one machine at the most. But apparantly that is _not_ allowed by Audinate! I think you can imagine my disappointment, when I wanted to install DVS on a new laptop the day before a big festival that I was supposed to multitrack. Luckily, they unlocked my license just in time (30min before show start) but damn, that's the main thing that I really hate about Dante. I sincerely hope that the industry finally settles on a universal license free standard for AoIP, because this Dante stuff is so annoying at times. Don't get me wrong, when it works, it's awesome. But I'm constantly lugging around a dedicated windows installation (linux only user) just to deal with Dante. Re: Build quality: I think it's ridiculous that they're using the yongsheng plugs and molded strain relief - these things will fail in no time in production. That's just poor quality. And of course as soon as you would switch out the plugs you will lose your waranty I bet. I'd probably go ahead and transfer them into a solid metal box of some sort anyway.

An OLED screen so you can patch devices, something that you don't have to use Dante Controller for. Then again you'd hook up a Dante enabled mixer to do all that I guess. My setup is simple. I have a Linux Box that there isn't a Dante Virtual Soundcard and Dante Controller driver/software for... Also Audinate doesn't support Linux. :/ REDNet AM2 2ch Out

I don't know how much network equipment you understand. I would have sent an ethercon. remove the RJ45 connector from the board, the data transformer is separate from the connector and this is a nice thing. in addition I would study to give a 15V power supply I assume after the poe. eg not always be linked to the poe.

I have 6 of these in use at our site. I too would love to see Ethercon added to this at the least. It would be nice if it had a redundant connection and ran on 1gig. But I'm sure you would not be able to add all that at its current price point. So I would like to see a Pro model as well. Also a rack mount version of this in 8 channels would be great for bringing all your analog wireless mics over to dante.

I would love to see that box with an attachment point for a trigger or c clamp and safety point, maybe there could be a 2 in 2 out, with ethercon loop-throughs, something like that ratsound cat box thingy, idea being you could clamp it to press risers, hang it by the safety off the back of a powered speaker, or clamp it to a truss, and loop through to multiple boxes for really long lines of powered speaker, or many press risers. Maybe the loop through could have an "extend" or "isolate" mode, extend being all the boxes looped off the first one just mirror the first one, similar to the rat sound solution appearing to Dante as a single 2 out interface, or in isolate mode, where each present themselves as an individual dante 2x2 interface, individually addressable like a normal dante config.
@kg4gav
@kg4gav 5 лет назад
These packaged in a 2x2 config in an enclosure like the Rat Sound cat box would be amazing. Maybe Dave could order the raw boards from Audinate and package them in his enclosures since he already has the extrusions and connectors.

When I first read about these I assumed the first would be a 1 in x 1 out version. I guess that doesn't make sense either for live sound or recording though. How often do you need inputs and outputs in the same place? Good review! Hope you didn't get into hot water totally upgrading / destroying the original unit.
@DcSoundOp
@DcSoundOp 6 лет назад
A 1x1 or 2x2 option would absolutely have applications in both live sound and recording. I'm always of the opinion that if you're running a snake, it might as well have a return or two. You never know when you'll need to drop a powered wedge or wired headphone mix in somewhere. I'm sure these will start to become more common as the technology becomes more common in the coming months. The crew @Audinate have a great sense of humor.
