Subscribe to your comment! Absolutely ANYONE could teach.i'm from Romania and all that i'm doing with the children (when they singing) i've learn from Audio University. It's not so dificult for me. He's explanations are easy to understand. Thank you so much! For the school I work as a music teacher (and making children choir) these are very good, and make's me more comparable to other gimnasium/high school music teacher 'cause, for me, it's not enough (when you have a children choir) just sing with voice. I believe that the succes with the songs for children, DEPENDS SO MUCH of sound equipment AND a person who knows a little bit of how to work with professional mixer.good luck🙏

Even though I don't have much use for it, I'm enjoying learning about production analogue equipment from this channel! I've always found this stuff interesting. When I was in school, we had lots of mixer boards like this (but older and cheaper). Some in the music/theater building, and even one to control the gym audio system. The one for the theater was the most advanced by far. There was a booth in the back of the building that had all the audio equipment, as well as the controls for the stage lighting. There was a massive equipment stack in the corner, full of gear I couldn't even begin to identify! I was once in charge of this booth for a theater production. I figured out the mic levels and the lighting controls (I made a script for where each slider needed to be at each scene), but everything else was a mystery. I was told just to ignore the equipment rack, because there was only one person who knew how to use it! Unfortunately the building was left unlocked one night, and someone stole a lot of the equipment.

I use a Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer which has much more basic features than that Mackie but the video was still quite informative. I use effects pedals connected via the send/return inputs on the mixer. I notice that when I use an effect in a channel, if I pan the signal extreme left or right, the effect itself is still heard in both channels, which sounds pretty cool.

Thank you! This video was extremely helpful! I was struggling with getting my band's mix right (I am by no means a sound man, but since I own the PA equipment, I inherited the job). Interestingly, I used to use a Mackie ProFX12v3 mixer, but upgraded to a Yamaha DM3 digital board because I needed more inputs. BIG difference in the way they operate, but the basic principles are the same. Anyway, our powered speakers are two LD Systems Maui 28 column arrays along with two QSC CP-8's. I used to set everyone's gain, set the speakers to about 75%, set the master to somewhere around -10 dB, then and adjust everyone's sliders to get the volume we wanted. This sort of worked, but the sound was less desirable than I had hoped for. After watching your video, I tried setting the master and individual sliders to unity, then bringing up the speakers until the volume was right as you recommended. Sounds much better now, especially the electric guitar (running through a Fender Tonemaster Pro). You are a true expert in audio engineering and I appreciate the help you've given me and my band! 🙂

I have quite a weird mixer. It has two channels, that can be each assigned as either phono or line. Then it has a cross fader right at the bottom and even a DJ microphone input? I has been a lot of fun playing around with it. I even learned how to connect a single source to the two inputs such that the cross fader functions as a balance control Oh I totally forgot: it has no output level control. You set the output level with the two linear level sliders.
@BertGrink
@BertGrink Месяц назад
That sounds like a dedicated DJ mixer; with those you typically have two turntables - either old-school vinyl players, or modern digital ones, but the principle is the same - and when you play your records/songs, you use the crossfader to smoothly blend from one song as it nears the end to the next one that you have cued in while the first song is playing. The microphone input is for announcing the title/artist of the songs as you play them, or for other messages that may be appropriate. I hope this helps.

Simply explained, and practical as hell. Wish I knew about this channel years ago. Do you know a lot about the DAC chips in these? I know there are analog mixers and digital mixers, but is there a huge difference? The reason I ask is I have a Volt 276 interface, and I got curious one day and recorded a song from two different portable CD players. One with a 1-bit dac (a mid 90's Panasonic with a MASH chip) and one with a 16 bit dac (a late 90's Akai). Now if you plug headphones in each of these and listen - to my ears - I hear a wider sound stage, clearer instrument separation, and more detailed dynamics. But when I recorded them through my Volt 276, the waveforms were identical and so was the sound. The source I used was my 2nd japanese pressing of "Thriller." Very little if any compression and when you crank the volume, you get more detail instead of just headache-causing loudness. So, speaking of mixers that also act as interfaces - as stated in the beginning of the video - is an analogue mixer going to be able to pick up these more subtle nuances in the sound? I know analogue is thrown around quite a bit, and I know a lot of the more affordable audio interfaces use the same DAC chips, but for some reason when you mentioned mixers acting as interfaces, it triggered this memory. Apologies for the seemingly off-topic question, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Keep up the great work!

Thank you. I remember about 3 years ago we had a musical at church one night. I was not involved at first. After the first rehearsal, I received a call. I was asked why they were getting feedback and if I may be able to help. the first thing I did was to look at their setup to understand what was going on. Once I determined what was happening I went to work. The speakers they were using we built into the ceiling, so there was nothing to be done there. Next, I looked at the mic placement to each other. I placed them a bit farther from each other. I added a mixer to the setup to help with feedback. Between using the EQ and gain I was able to get rid of the feedback while getting a good clear sound. It was a success. The only thing I requet was not recording it. Also, another time, I used a mixer to setup mics on stage. The performers would be running around on stage. So, I looped 8 mics from the rafters above and brought them down far enough to pick up the performers as they ran around. Again, using the EQ and the qain I was able to get the desired results. I am not a professional by any means, That is why your audio lessons are so helpful for me.

Could you please make a video on "how to set gains - sound levels for quiet, soft, timid vocalists"? This is a problem plaguing sound engineers in church - worship scenarios. There are inevitably a couple of vocalists who just have very quiet voices and setting gain for them causes extremely hot mics that lead to noise and feedback, but they can't be heard in the mix otherwise. Thank you!

love your videos! very informative.... Question, i'm using the same mixer for Karaoke, and i'm dealing with feedbacks. What is the best approach to fix this issue? I'm thinking about getting 15 band EQ, but i've seen other devices such as the Behringer Feedback Destroyer Pro. I'm looking for a method to automatically eliminate feedback, not needing to constantly adjust. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
@AudioUniversity
@AudioUniversity 6 часов назад
The most reliable solution would be an EQ, adjusted at the beginning of each show (the feedback frequencies will depend on the speaker, mic, venue, and distance between the speaker and mic.

@@AudioUniversity Thank you so much! This is a business, so it doesnt sound like constant adjustment is needed, since its the same venue/room? I just need a solution that doesnt require constant adjustment, because none of my workers know how to tune sound. basically i'm looking for something that you set and forget, and not needing to adjust everyday.

Good day, Audio Lovers, I have been following your channel since I started setting up and building my home studio. Many thanks for your wonderful informative content! I am wondering now, what would be the best (buck for money) mixer to begin with. for a home studio, and do I need one? I need to connect 1 laptop, 1 guitar, 1 bass, 2 phantom-powered large diaphram mics, and 2 dynamic mics. I also use one or two effect loops. I have a great Art Pro Leveler and a good Analog Synth module. I already have a Scarlet 4i4, The simple Mackie 4-channel Phono Amp, and a Big knob for the monitors. Finally, I'd like a simple channel to talk with anyone in the other/mic/recording room. Any tips? Note I am located in the EU. Best regards, and have a great Friday and weekend! Mike

A mixer or an audio interface with routing abilities would be helpful and would allow you to reroute signals without moving physical connections. There’s a wide range of features to look out for. @AudioUniversity

While you can use TS cables, the reason to use TRS cables is to establish a balanced connection. Check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rgfZb1pEIrU.htmlsi=G8IePVHSyl91tS1i

How do you hook this up if in a church? House monitors separate from floor monitor

I've got a question about the Musysic 6 Channel stereo mixer. The main issue I'm getting is only 1 channel out of an ipod hooked up through an Aux cable to this mixer. The mixer itself - I've got 2 stereo speakers and 2 large PA's (4 cables total) hooked up to the two outputs in the back (I bought a splitter so all 4 speakers can put out sound). The Aux option has 1 'Send' and 1 'Receive'. Initially I had the cable plugged only into the Receive option because the send does not put out any sound. This is when I discovered only 1 channel is playing from the songs I'm choosing. So I bought another splitter to plug into both Send and Receive, but I'm still getting only 1 channel output. When I play the ipod through another stereo, both channels come out, but when I plug back into the mixer I get only 1. Do you have any insights as to where I'm not connecting properly? Or perhaps it's just the mixer itself? Thanks!

Question, if you record a full band this way with the sub 1-2 would you have to have just one track for everything or is there a way to record individual tracks to be able to mix and master later? Sorry if this doesn’t make sense beginner here
@AudioUniversity
@AudioUniversity 15 дней назад
To get a “multitrack” (where every track is separate), I would need an audio interface capable of that. There are some mixers that do this (like the TASCAM Model 12) and many stand-alone interfaces (like the Focusrite 18i20).

How would you visualize the behavior and what would you say is the biggest drawback of using a one-knob compressor on a mixer? There's no control over ratio, threshold, knee size, limiter, etc like a normal compressor. In your experience, are all one-knob compressors generally the same in what they do or can they be surprisingly different? I mean obviously the answer is: read the damn manual, use your ears, and patch it with your own dedicated compressor if you don't like what it does, but I'm generally curious how ubiquitous the internal settings of the one-knob tend to be.
@AudioUniversity
@AudioUniversity Месяц назад
I'm not sure exactly what the single control does. Good question though. Maybe it's a threshold with a fixed ratio, maybe a ratio with a fixed threshold? Or maybe a mixture of both? Here's a video for those interested in learning about the other controls commonly found on a compressor: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lgCYjek5_JY.html

I've experimented crudely with the 1-knob comp on Yamaha consoles and they behave like the "auto microphone level control" of video meeting softwares. It not only reduces loud signals but also boosts quiet signals (that's why a feedback is likely to happen when the comp knob is cranked up to full). The attack time is fixed to approximately 25ms, so it can't be used as a drum punchiness enhancer or do any aesthetic treatment to the sound. However it's quite useful for leveling out the signal of a condenser mic feeding my high school's public address speakers.
@JBF-GST-Tanda
@JBF-GST-Tanda Месяц назад
@@AudioUniversity According to Yamaha's user manual of MG series consoles, the knob controls threshold, ratio and makeup gain simultaneously. When the knob is at zero, the threshold is set to +22dBu(unreachable), the ratio is 1:1 (totally bypassed) and the makeup gain is zero. When the knob is fully cranked up, the compressor will activate at -8dBu with a ratio of 4:1 and 7dB of makeup gain. However the attack and release time are fixed to about 25mS and 300mS, so it's impossible to use this compressor to add punchiness for drums and basses.

so electric acoustic guitar is the same way with an electric guitar? some people say not to insert an electric guitar straight into a mixer. thanks
@AudioUniversity
@AudioUniversity Месяц назад
I wouldn't recommend directly connecting an electric guitar. It is technically ok to do so, but the sound will likely not be what you want (unless you have some sort of amp/cabinet emulation in the signal chain). A DI electric guitar alone can sound kind of sterile.

@@AudioUniversity will it affect or ruin the mixer or the rest of the equipment? I just want to jam along a backing track. I’m not trying to record into a daw.. I also have two preamps, a focusrite vocal pro that has a line input and an ART mpll preamp which same inputs in another room that’s for tracking. Can I use those instead of buying a guitar amp? Thanks a lot bro
@AudioUniversity
@AudioUniversity Месяц назад
@Idonttakethisseriously connecting an electric guitar pickup directly to the mixer won’t damage anything. Be sure to use the “instrument” or “hi-z” input. Check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_AC22VR3W3g.htmlsi=ay-wfSNWBSlYT96M

I have always wondered why live mixers have to be different from studio mixers and if their uses can actually be interchanged
@AudioUniversity
@AudioUniversity Месяц назад
There are some brands that specialize in one or the other - but they all have similar functionality. The differences are often ergonomics and workflow. Studio, live, and broadcast all have unique workflows and the layout of a console can make it better for one more than the others.

As you can see in the video, it has all of the basic features (plus a few more). While you could get more functionality out of a larger model or a digital mixer, I think it's a great option in this price range.
