reaper has never stopped impressing me. its constantly showing how to make good software. there are few software titles that should be on a hall of fame for performance, features, accessibility, price etc - and reaper is definitely up there.

I have always thought about this. But never thought there was enough processing power. Great video
@adamsteelproducer
@adamsteelproducer 6 лет назад
I think until very recently there wasn’t the power- the 3B+ is quite the powerhouse, and it’s only in the last few weeks that Reaper has become Linux native and doesn’t need WINE to run, really lightening the load

Hop Pole Studios I’ve got a few slate ml2 mics. And have been thinking on how I can run the plugins for the mic emulations then go into my hardware live. This might be the ticket. What kind of latency are you getting?
@adamsteelproducer
@adamsteelproducer 6 лет назад
Interesting solution- I suppose the latency is mostly interface dependent. I got 256 samples with the iD4 without any issue, I’m sure I could get it lower but I’ll need a little time with it to experiment. Busy couple of weeks coming up but I’ll be doing a part 2, also looking at getting windows VSTs running so there are more plugin options

Thank you for a super good introduction. I just set up Reaper on a Raspberry Pi 3 B. Works flawlessly. I can even plug in my audio interface (scarlett 2i2) to the Pi, just like in the video. A few years back I played around on my linux i5 laptop, but lacking a good lightweighted DAW it was difficult. Back then it was difficult to get good VST's. But those included in Reaper seems good If I run into performance issues I could even upgrade to a RPi 4, and get a faster SD card. I will say that NOW FINALLY you can make good music in Linux. Question: Can anyone recommend a good piano VST?

Interesting! I've recently bought my first Raspberry Pi for a display project, but as I am a music producer I need to try to run Reaper on it. I think one of the great advantages of the Pi is that it is so easy to use one Pi for different purposes, just switch the card and you can run another dist and there's no need to worry about them disturbing each other! If you don't have lots of gear connected to the GPIO port of course...

Not a lot here for folks already familiar with the world of raspberry pi. Was hoping for insights into the usability of pi/reaper for recording live instruments. In fact, I arrived at this video with the thought of using a spare pi as a looper pedal, though there's plenty to figure out, there. Can Reaper be configured to simultaneously record and over looping playback?

ive been racking my brain for a few months over a way to make a sampler-looper in reaper without using Playtime, but to no avail. Any brainstorming youve done would be refreshing. on the pedal theme, my goal is to have for example a JS:Transient Controller in a pedal. It would alone with just raspberry pi (and i guess a digital interface) and have sweet switches and knobs to boot.

I’d like to see you revisit this project & deep dive into what if any plugins will work on a Pi? Are there Linux plugins that work on the arm architecture?
@nathanbryers
@nathanbryers 3 года назад
How about serving wifi midi to an iPad based studio thru reaper on a Pi? Is there latency issues putting another link in the chain? Are there any emulators to run vst plugins? Or would reaper work on a windows 10os for raspberry Pi? Does that option even exist? I’m very curious due to the low power consumption of the Pi as I run 12v solar power in my home & a laptop is a heavy drain for sustained use. Another thought would be to run the Pi as network storage for bulky sound bank collections - will that work alongside reaper on same device? ~ although using a Pi in studio maybe a bit gimmicky, I reckon it’s still worthy of a deep dive review - seems like arm architecture is taking the main stage with apple... I reckon it follows that raspberry Pi could quickly become very relevant in field work or mobile studio. How did it go with plugins you tried? Do Linux plugins have an offering for Pi applications at all?
