I have both the Aston Origin and the Aston Spirit. Between mic A and mic B in your video, A sounded brighter and more airy. B sounded thicker and warmer. I was able to distinguish which was the Origin. I liked them both but it's surprising that some thought B was brighter and more airy. Go figure!

They sound very similar, B only has a boost and slight natural distortion in the higher frequencies, making everything sound more crisp. I don't hear how it's thicker and warmer than A, I hear the exact opposite, it's bright and crisp. I think it helps soft singers a lot, but not sure how it will handle louder singing.

They sound similar. Like a Fender Strat sounds similar to a Telecaster but not the same. I prefer my Spirit to my Origin. It has a bigger, deeper, fuller sound.@@catapl93

I was surprised I thought the one that fitted her voice the best was the Origin only to find it was the AT2020. There was more melody in her voice through the AT2020. I know we go by the brand name sometimes but I am just being real and enjoyed Mic B more.

Mic B seemed to have slightly more sibilance. I have the 2020, so I was really interested to hear how the Origin sounded against it. Thanks for the demo!

Mic A for me .. MIc B seemed to be a little more airy but in the Raw recording especially some extra harshness came through .. By Comparison Mic A just seemed overall smoother and better to me.

I kinda like A because mic B vocals were too bright but they are both good mics. I will be happy with both mics 😂 but unfortunately I all ready bought the origin before the vid

Just out here collecting mics...My next grab was either AT2020 or a Aston Origin cause I was getting a sweet deal on the AO..Welp glad to know I prefered the sound of the AO for my personal taste! 😇

As a mixing engineer I would say the AT2020 was better, cause the origin is giving some low end that could be a little useless when you try to mix the vocals with the kick and bass, but at the end of the day, it´s all relative, that's my personal opinion, thank you for the shootout

Yea I could see that. Just depends on the song type really. I can imagine the low end on the Origin would be more desired for stripped down acoustic songs with just vocals and guitar. Thanks for watching!!

@@RoxyJMusic Awwee that's really nice! I'll tell her you said that. You can follow her YT Channel if you search Rosy L Music. 😊 I've never used the Spirit but an artist I mix for uses it and I'm not the biggest fan. Sounds too thin imo. Maybe it would be different if used in my studio. I'm also not a fan of the C214 on vocals. The top end sounded nasty and grainy when I tried it on her voice. I have no experience with the AT4040 so I can't help you there.

@@subtonic24 Awesome! Thank you for your quick response. Do you recommend the WA47jr for an R&B singer? My voice is not high. I’m an alto and have a raspy voice. I thought the Aston Spirit was pretty warm and smooth. 😄 And you’re welcome. I’m going to follow her for sure. ☺️

@@RoxyJMusic If you are an alto with a not so high/bright voice, you would probably benefit from a brighter mic if you want to do less work in post processing. I've heard good things about the AT4040 for hip hop and r&b vocals. From my experience, the Avantone CV12 would be a great option. The new Sony C80 might be worth a look as well.

I would recommend the Warm Audio WA47jr, or any mic with a K47 style capsule in it. Cheaper mics are usually based on a K67 style capsule on a linear circuit leading to bright and thinner sounding mics. The K47 style capsule in the WA47jr has more low end, detailed mids, and a rolled off smooth top end which will give you that full body sound you are looking for. I can do a short comparison vid for you if you like.

is this the large diaphragm aston origin or the cardioid one?

This is the Origin which is shorter in length and cardioid only. You might be thinking about the Spirit which is multi pattern and longer.

We like the AT2020 sound better overall (fits her voice better), but in this particular example, we felt the Aston sounded better. So it really depends on what sound you want and what style of music you are working on. Thanks for your comment!
