oh wow... you can really pick out the differences. I like the overall brightness of the Ortofon.... surprised. Thank you for posting!!!

Hi! For me ortofon om10 is not bright, is just full range cartridge, the 2 AT are like they cut the mid frequency , some people like this sound . If you listen good quality recording vinyls, ortofon win with difference!

I own an om10 and I feel that the at95e is a better vinyl cart based on this vid. It sounds warmer & more authentic. The om10 sounds more hi-fi & digital. I won't be "downgrading" however as my ears adapt to coolness of om10 within minutes of listening. Obviously the at91 is starter quality, but at least it won't ruin records as a ceramic cart would.

Muy buen trabajo al hacer esta comparacion! Gracias. Yo tengo dos OM20. Creo que tambien entra en juego la cuestion de gustos. A mi en lo personal me gustan mas los graves. Al Ortofon OM10 mis oidos lo escuchan muy brillante.

On music like this, at91 sounds best like it did back then on a jukebox. AT95e brighter but balanced. Om10 even brighter but too end much more pronounced. Cost wise at91 will only cost you like $25, AT95e $49 (same with vm95e which replaces it) Om10 costs you $80. So yes The om10 to most will sound best and brightest But here's the real question, does the om10 sound twice as good? Because that's what it'll cost you. Does the AT95e sound twice as good as the at91? Does the om10 sound 4x as good as the at91? All in what your ears like. I love the at91 fr these older records and music. The at91r (red) sounds brighter than the at91 yellow and is only $4 more than the at91. That may be a better one to compare with these there two. There is also something called listening fatigue from overly bright cartridges. Also depends on your system and if using speakers or headphones. It's all subjective. Also the cheaper AT carts will give you better bass for other kinds of music. Even brought out the bass on this very old song that wasn't intended to have it so pronounced. So if you like rap/hip hop, this cart will better serve you. Great video!!! Love hearing these side by side

This is how I was hearing it. The drums are so much more prominent with the 95, it was distracting.

Might be worth thinking about which sounds real and which sounds like "hi fi"? In my opinion the green one (whichever that is) sounds best, he sounds like he is hitting the drum and the vocal is real. It's a sort of "juke box" sound. You do get more detail with the OM10 (is there a tambourine in there?) but the essence of the music is confused, to my ears.

I have all of them. For me at91 is really poor. at95e is a little more sharpe and less defined in the bass than the Ortofon 10...but I am 55 with wooden ears

The AT91 would shine if this were an original mono pressing. Mono LPs were meant for a conical stylus

I have all these three. Ortofon can offer a fun if you want more punchy sound ja as it has higher output voltage. Coupling its stylus with Concorde cartridge can give you a nice solid bass. However, Ortofon sounds bit harsh on my equipment, also IGD is more noticeable. Generally I like AT more. If one likes visual aesthetics, then AT95E isn't a right choice as it's ugly as garbage.

AT 91 the best no sibilances and balanced sound. I would be interested in comparing the AT91 cartridge with the VM95C ("new" AT 91). Thanks

To my ears, the clear winner is the 95e. It just sounds fuller with better separation and bass than the others. I’m not familiar with the OM 10, or any of the OM cartridges. But I can say that the Ortofon 2m series, starting with the red, are a major upgrade from carts like the 95e. Some people swear by the Nagaoka 110; but I believe that’s no more than personal choice as opposed to which is the better cartridge. I won’t put the Nagaoka down, because I have no experience with it. But I do know how the Ortofon 2m series sounds like (I have the blue), and I’m very happy with it.

I've listened a few times to this and I think that the AT91 sounds not so good as the others. The OM10 and the AT95 are both much better. Altough the AT95 sounds quite well, I think that the Ortofon OM10 sounds better and more punchy. The OM10 is actually very nice.

And when the OM10 sounds better, I want to hear that, even if it is expensive. Although you can buy the Ortofon OM10 for less than 100 Euro. I think it's something like 70 Euro.

The Ortofon has better detail resolution and so the percussion is much better. From experience though I found it's bass is soft with poor timing. The At95E is better balanced IMHO.....however if your looking for a real upgrade from these cheap carts try the Nag MP110 it blows them all away and not much more £££ than the OM10.

This is strange why a song from 1961 which had to have been recorded in mono because that's all there was back then, Of course it could've been released later in fake stereo, like a lot of the songs in the mid 60's(Beatles, etc). So I don't think judging the stereo is really a proper test, but I agree with you Juanito, the Ortofon does sound better to me. The AT cartridge sounded out of balance to the left side of my headphones(I didn't listen any further I'm afraid to say) as I feel the test would've been better with a new release which WAS recorded in stereo. But thanks Sylvain for taking time to post this.

Not sure how accurate and relevant this comparison really is, since the cartridges do not appear to be aligned. I know for the fact that AT91 & AT95E aren't, because I own both AT95E and 3600L (basically AT91) and they both sit differently within the headshells.
@danconnew9632

Not all equipment is the same buddy. Also many alignment techniques. I'm sure they're aligned lol. Trust me you'd hear it if they were off as you're saying.
@2010stoof
@2010stoof 3 года назад
What he means is the cart position in headshell. Forward or back judged by screw location in the slot as seem from the top. And he's right. All are set in the middle of the slot. I don't have the om 10, but I have the at91 and AT95e and the screws don't sit in same spot in slots. The distance from mounting holes on cart to the stylus diamond are different on these two. So they wouldn't have screw in same location in slots. That's what he meant. The song is early enough on the record that if he's a little off it wouldn't matter that much as long as it's good enough for the first part of the record which is easiest to align for. But if it was nearer to inner grooves you'd hear the problems with alignment. But I agree, the carts don't sit in same place in the slots like he has them here. All headshells are the same technics style headshells so they shouldn't be in same spot if aligned correctly.

The Ortofon sounds best! I know Ortofons charge a little bit too much for their products. Their styluses (styli?) and complete carts are a lot more expensive than the Audio-Technica if you compare the same type of cart/needle. But then again, the Ortofons are usually the best. To me the Ortofon 2M Blue sounds better than the Audio-Technica AT-VM740ML even-though the latter are more advanced.
