2007. A comparison of a 2M Standard model vs. a 2M Premium model. The Bronze costs over twice as much as the Blue and has several upgrades to the coils, pole pins, suspension and magnet plus it features a fine line contact stylus.
My dad had this record and remember learning about tracking ability with the actual recorded cannons. (if it's the 1812 T'kovski version I remember as a kid) Great vid thanks for this!
The Bronze cartridge is a clear winner here. Particularly in passing the massive amount of information from source to ear during the intensely percussive portions where the bass drums are highly active. Both cartridges are excellent, however after listening to this I'm sold on a Bronze at some point in the future. Thanks for the examples.
And although the manufacturer claims that the bronze stylus can only be replaced in the upper segment (black), has anyone tried to put bronze in a blue 2m cartridge? And what are the results?🤔
Although the cartridge shapes are the same, the lower range has materials that provide a less transparent sound. If you put a Black or Bronze into a Red cartridge, you won't get the full performance, especially in high-end detail, as well as a smaller soundstage.
Well, the bronze is by a healthy margin the better cartridge. Where the blue gets muddy and undifferentiated the bronze shows way better clarity and diffentiation without being tonaly unbalanced. Dynamicly they are both worse than top class MCs,but the bronze is a very good MM indeed. Imho of course.
The bronze can be on par with many MC cartridges, especially those in the same price range. Obviously it couldn't be compared to thousands of dollar MCs.
The Bronze sounds ever so slightly more open and with my AKG K240 from the 1970s I believe I can hear the cannon's echo's very very slightly more clearly as they travel further away, But I'm not sure its over double the price MORE
Well it would of been very embarrassing for Ortofon if the Bronze wasn't better, especially when you are paying double the price , it's a bit like comparing a 40 watt halogen bulb against a more costly 40 watt LED bulb, and guess what ? The LED is much better (brighter) at doing what it was designed to do, to give light, The same applies here, the Bronze costs considerably more, therefor should and does supply a better sound experience.
