I watched your video and ended up buying the AT System 10 lav kit. It was on sale at Adorama for $249.00. Thanks for your demonstration. I'll be recording onto the Tascam DR-60D and syncing up in post (Premiere Pro CS6). I have the Zoom H1 and I love it. I usually add a little bass to the audio track to make sound a bit fuller. I agree with you that audio quality is very important. You can have great looking video but if the sound is bad, the production is ruined.

What was the problem you had with audio at CES? What are the switches set on on the receiver? I did an electric scooter review last week with it and the audio will not play on mobile devices and works fine on PC's and TV's. Take a listen on my channel but I'm confused. I know I could've had the balanced selected instead of dual mono but not sure if that's the problem. I had it directly in my Panasonic G85. Thanks!

I was first scared off by the fact that RX has no batteries, just an inbuilt accumulator, but so far it's performing with no recharge on 10-12 hour shoots with no problem!

Not being able to swap batteries in the receiver is a deal breaker for me. If I pull it out dead, I don't have time for recharging. Do you get access to the battery compartment and can you put your own batteries in the receiver or is the built in rechargeable the only option? Rodelink is looking better right now (and cheaper).

+Neil Smith You can't get to the battery to change it out. However, you can run the receiver off of any standard usb mobile power bank.

+Anthony Sergi I went ahead and bought this and love it. I actually did get some external power packs as I can't take any chances. I would really like to just stick some rechargeable 9v batteries in these things though.

+Neil Smith I bought one and held on to my G3s for a while until I felt comfortable that the Sys 10s would work in a variety of environments. Performance has been so reliable that I finally decided to put the G3s up for sale and bought a second AT kit along with a matching hand held. I paired them with some tram lavs I had and I love them. BTW-I've never had a rx pack run out of power after shooting full days, but I do feel the same as you--I'd rather have full control of battery swapping. Funny how having posted 3 months ago you're now having a near realtime discussion about this!

Great info in the vid. I must say it is a pet peeve to see something recorded in 60fps if not doing it for slow motion footage. It's not realistic to the human eye. It looks completely fake. Why not just do 24fps or 30fps??? Human eye sees motion blur.

+Sean Reynolds No. The tx and rx are directly linked. Won't work like, say Senn G3 with one tx to multiple rx.

Sorry, but the H1 sounds like crap. No mid range or bass. Sounds like a cheap, no name $2 mic from a headset. Definitely not worth the $100. The XY is even worse, if that is possible. The only one that sounded good was the AT Lav mic.

cee128d Yes, a little plastic toy recorder is not expected to perform any better than that. XY microphones were never made for the application shown in this video. That is just a total misapplication of the product. And that little junior "shotgun" is another amateur toy as was amply demonstrated in this video. The little "shorty" "shotgun" actually might not make a bad hand-held for use in a noisy environment like a convention floor. But you could hear that the very short length renders very poor performance at any kind of distance you would expect from a proper "shotgun" mic. Alas TechExamined mushed together an actual review of the A-T System 10 with a comparison of different mic techniques (lav, hand-held, and shotgun). It would have been better to stick to a comprehensive review of the System-10 and show all its advantages and disadvantages, and then make another video comparing various mic techniques (which has almost nothing to do with brands and models). It would also be good to really understand what you are talking about and get the facts together before hitting the red button.
