A huge thank you, Terry, for all your videos. I joined your channel early on after your review of the PS Audio Directstream DAC (Which I subsequently bought & love :) ), but more importantly to me, I have discovered a wide range of music and artists by watching your channel, ones that I would never have heard of otherwise. Whilst pursuit of the perfect system is a challenge for all of us, we should never forget that pursuit of the perfect song to play on it is far more important. My life has been greatly enriched by the music you have chosen to demo your various systems. Keep up the great work

Your system configuration and sound both blew me away. The sound through youtube is such good, I can only imagine how good it would be sitting there in the sweet spot.👍👍👍 Would have to wait my next life to build up such a system😀 Excellent.👍👍👍 Edit: This is to thank you once more for the audio tracks you used in your review. Those tracks made my simple system (Exposure 2010S2+Castle Knight 5+Spotify through Chromecast Audio) to sound livelier. 👍👍👍

Superb sound. I was not really a fan of Gregory Porter before - but the reproduction on this system reveals phrasing, inflections and dynamics in his vocalising that I never really heard before. I now have to listen to him again through my own system!

The Audiolab is a fantastic amp, modest tech will still be awesome through this amp . I just think the increments of sound get less and less, to expensive equipment . For the music lover this amp will not let you down, the CDT is also top billing . As always great reviews and demo's .

It would be interesting to compare with an 80's UK built Audiolab 8000A. I think this amp is a little sharp in the treble with the forward and detailed sounding KEFs. A more expensive amp gives rather more smoothness and control (speaking in general terms).
@PursuitPerfectSystem
@PursuitPerfectSystem 4 года назад
KEF reference are not forward sounding they are the opposite the treble rolls off to keep the freq response ultra smooth across the whole rang what your hearing is true transient clarity from the digital front end

How I’d like you to repeat this interesting experiment with a better amplifier, eg the Audiolab 8300a or others around £1000. This would ideally be in an AB situation. I felt this particular demonstration made the 6000a sound so-so - superficially impressive but lacking in real depth - but I really like the idea of putting a comparison amplifier between an excellent front and speakers. Surprisingly it seems to my ears to bypass RU-vid compression problems (though perhaps that’s why it sounds so-so). Thank you for all your effort.
@PursuitPerfectSystem
@PursuitPerfectSystem 3 года назад
Hi Andrew, I think when you break it down the 6000A a £599 amp is driving what costs now £11000 speakers so lacking depth etc is possibly true but still the 6000A is not doing a bad job. For comparison I have reviewed about 20 different amps from this up to about £15000 all with these speakers so there are tons of demo videos in my channel. Really the purpose of the demo video is to create a greater content for the spoken review and to support everything I say in it for good and bad - honest reviews :)
@johnsweda2999
@johnsweda2999 4 года назад
Does it have a pre-out and amp in? If you can feed a valve preamp into it should work really well. And I'm not a fan of conditioners hearsay, they can make the sound thin as you described but not sure about regenerators not had experience only use conditioner on the sources not amplification maybe the only exception to that rule if you run it after a variac you can give it a bit more juice. If you want to sell it I'll buy it off you for 400 only want the amp. And why didn't you try the DAC in the amp its a very good DAC are you going to give it a go?
@PursuitPerfectSystem
@PursuitPerfectSystem 4 года назад
yes def an amp in, and I think pre out as well but using an integrated amplifier with another pre amplifier makes no sense unless your talking an AV processor which is what the amp in connections are for Home Cinema Bypass. Good mains conditioners dont make hifi's sound lean they remove noise - if that makes a hifi sound lean its incorrectly balanced in the first instance and its the "fat" on the sound that is adding a false dynamic - that is something I have learned over the last 2 years and its been a very interesting learning curve. I will be testing the internal dac yes but for purposes of keeping things the same from demo to demo and for removing my room for purposes of the recording then I didnt use the internal dac. I explain this in the video. Lastly its not my amp - its a review sample so you cannot have it on a discount John sorry :) In fact this one is run in by me so surely its worth a premium on top of the RRP :)

Debagio . Yes maybe! But the newer CXA61 and 81 amps are on a different level from the older 60 and 80. And the CXA61 is every bit the amp the 6000A is and more. The Audio lab is not as warm but not as good at throwing out details at the top end. And in the case of the CXA 81.. it’s no contest. That amp was voted in class last year for good reason. It is the best.. True Hi-Fi sound. I have it linked up to a chord QUTEST dac...and Tannoy XT6F Speakers . I use the Allo Digione signiture streamer. Really needs other comparison amps swapped in/out, otherwise really not sure what I am hearing, how much the video recording is influencing the reproduction and similarly how much the RU-vid stream and my headphones similarly colour. A/B comparisons in these circumstances would be more insightful - much like auditioning equipment in an audition room.

I have made hundreds of videos showing the sound of differing kit in my review system there is more A/B material in my channel than any other - A/B to your hearts content. Once you adjust to the sound of your monitoring system / the RU-vid platform you are using for its quality there is lots to be learnt from the demo videos

Listening to this on a late 90s Audiolab 8000a, and wondering if I should make the jump. However, I could say "Wow that sounds amazing", but its my Audiolab making that amazing from your great recording of yours, so I guess the sound quality is all in the mastering of the recording. I am wondering how much greater the 6000a would be in person over what my 8000a is capable of reproducing from your great recording.

Yes you mainly do good videos, but think the Audiolab is out of its range in this video. No one will use such expensive cables and accessories with an amp of that price, it will only show its weaknesses as suppose it's strength. Personally don't think the Audiolab 6000A was matched with kit to bring out it's strengths but showing its weaknesses, in this case on occasions rather sounding thin and bright.
@PursuitPerfectSystem
@PursuitPerfectSystem 4 года назад
yes it a little thin sounding on this system on occasion but listen to how clean it is throughout the different music - hard to have this level of clarity with a fuller sound at this price point. The sound could be fatter but it wouldn't have the same clarity it would be coloured. There is plenty of bass and decent bass control when its needed. A fat sound is not good sound I am learning this as I go. A sound I used to think was good because of its fat was actually being coloured by the fat. True transient response needs to come first otherwise we are listening to coloured audio. I will talk more about this over time :) I dare say the amplifier sound is designed to be balanced with the sound of the internal dac not with a £8k Chord front end but that doesnt mean it will sound better off the internal DAC I know it wouldn't. I also know it wouldn't sound better off worse speakers etc they would just mask the sound more that is again not better audio its coloured more :)
@PursuitPerfectSystem
@PursuitPerfectSystem 4 года назад
the other thing to consider I normally use the Tellurium Q Statement Power cable on the amplifier but I couldn't get it to fit with how Audiolab have designed the power inlet IEC. It's a different sound with the xlo signature 3 which is still excellent but not quite the same as the Tellurium Q Statement which is pretty special :)
@ememe1412

@@PursuitPerfectSystem I thought the sound was good. Other than horns/ funky waveguides (and naturally/on purpose bright set ups) that imprints its sound on anything played through it, combos will have some type of 'anomally' across different ranges of music. Over the years, I've found different prize ranges on my rig so I dont go for this idea of market level matching. My koetsu is worth about 5 of my turntable. My speakers at the moment were made before the cable craziness. The cable it uses now costs more than it was brand new even with inflation. I've used a power conditioner that costs more (with change), when a simple Tacima 6-way was supposed to be enough (the mains was filthy due to half century old wiring and fuse box, imagine a modern fridge cycling still able to flicker the lights... ). Bottom line, as the system evolves, chops and changes and so much easier to track 2nd hand, Lord knows what shares space on the rack. First off, it's the preference for sound. Second is the electronics. Prize ranges are relative. If Michell made the SL1200GR instead of Panasonic, it wouldn't be priced 1.2k...

Can I pick your brains? I have a pair of elderly Monitor Audio RS8s, fed by a Marantz PM6005 and the source is mainly FLAC or CDs through a Cambridge 752BD. I now live in Spain and my living room is small (3.5 x 4.5 mtrs) and the speakers are stuck in corners - about 20cm from back wall and 10 cm from side walls. Mainly low - mid volume playing films, rock, blues and classical. At 64 years old, I know my ears ain't what they used to be, but the sound (unless it's really cranked up) sounds....dull. Lifeless. I was considering smaller towers (Dali Oberon 5) or replacing the amp (Cambridge CXA61 or Audiolab 6000). Or both. Being in Spain, home demo is out of the question, and an audition at the outlet is 50 euros!!! But in store won't replicate my house and the thought of lugging my MAs from a car park to the store fills me with dread! So..........what would be your - and others out there - opinion? Many thanks.

The idea that we can asses a sound system via a RU-vid video is absurd, RU-vid sound quality is awful. I have an AudioLab 6000a, or at least I did, I sen it back because it sometimes hums, hopefully I get a replacement. Apart from the hum, the sound quality is superb, very neutral, with a wide frequency response. It wipes the floor with my Arcam Solo Movie. Oh dear, you use expensive cables. Spends absolutely ridiculous amounts of money on power conditioning....then plays a review demonstration that can ONLY sound like your phone/tablet/PC after RU-vid compression. Basically about 50k of pointlessness The only hi fi demo that can be even attempted is playing an A/B comparison...where you can glean, perhaps, a difference in the sonic character between two pieces of equipment...even if both are only presented to you through the above filters That Gregory Porter track sounds, predictably, just like my phone and AKG headphones....and my phone and AKG headphones make him sound better if I just pull the track on Qobuz. Silliness really.... massively complicated pointlessness lol
@PursuitPerfectSystem
@PursuitPerfectSystem 3 года назад
every sound demo video I create is an A/B demo to all the others I create, one in isolation tells you something, watching lots of them tells you more. Also if you want to compare try playing the same tracks in RU-vid not the best streaming service qobuz because its not a like for like comparison. If your AKG headphones are designed to sound accurate they will play the recording the same as any other and tell you a lot about it, the recording shows how the system sounded for the review and therefore why I formed my opinion about the product. I mostly review higher end gear so nice mains conditioning is useful and I like what it does

I don't understand. What do viewers get out of listening to an outstanding system playing through their crapy computer speakers!? Also, why not add some variety of music genres? All samples were pretty slow without much going on at any one time. Add some orchestral soundtracks, some dance, some crazy heavy metal. Doesn't have to be full tracks, just a minute or two to understand how the amp handles a wide variety of music.
