so true but 8 parts, 7 different versions Past Biff twice, Original '85 Biff, New '85 Biff, Future elderly Biff, Future grand son of Biff, '85 Evil Trump-ish Biff, and Mad Dog ancestor of Biff
@@PRdeSO Alright you just gave me an amazing idea someone (not me cuz I can't do that stuff) should make for a spoof trailer: *Biff to the Future*, with a montage of all the biffs through all 3 series and his most iconic/funny scenes, and at the end it just says "There will be Biffs." XD
This man OWNED the role of Biff like no one else ever could have. I grew up in the 80's and LOVED this movie. Biff was so much fun to "hate!" This movie never would have been the same without him!
If you were into computer games, there was a game that came out in 1995 called "Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom". Tom played the part of Todd "Maniac" Marshall who was the wingman for Mark Hamill's character Christopher Blair. The cast consisted these two, plus Malcolm McDowell, John Rhys-Davies, Jason Bernard, Chris Mulkey, Richard Riehle, John Spencer and quite a few more great actors. For me, Tom stole the show with his ridiculous and wonderful style and comedic timing. I, like you, was confused as hell as to why he seemed to be overlooked. It was criminal!
Exactly my thoughts. Great comedic and physical presence at the same time. It is a mystery why he did not receive many more roles. I was ready to see him again.
I remember watching an old interview (here on YT), where he talks about it and that he focused on his career in theater and (at the time) wasnt thrilled, that all people ever wanted to talk to him about, was Back to the Future. I am SO happy that time has given him joy in his role of Biff. Yeah I wouldve liked to have seen him in more for it is like the old saying, "a hero is only as good as his villain", and he absolutely killed it as the many versions of Biff.
Also my favorite! But he is honestly he best actor from the entire series. Played every alternate character to the letter. He should have been the star before mjf. Love him too but lets be honest biffs character arc is so much better. Lubs ya Tom!
I've always thought Tom's acting in the BTTF trilogy is highly underrated. His portrayal of "Old Biff" and "Mad Dog Tannen" in particular are almost virtuosic and testify to his excellent range as an actor.
@@RocStarr913 what would you know about acting, critic? You been in any movies? That’s like so called music critics panning Paul’s McCartney’s post Beatles albums when they don’t know shit about music.
He honestly had one of the most difficult roles in the movie, because he played so many versions of himself. And he did so well that I often wasn't sure if it was actually him playing these other versions. For example, for the longest time I actually thought Griff was played by a different actor.
For an actor to play such a despicable character so well, and play every part no matter how different, and keep it all believable, is a true tribute to this actor. I think you are awesome Tom Wilson.
He is just a fantastic person. Growing up, never in a million years would I think "Biff" would be a nice person. He played the role so well. A great part of my childhood right here!
I auditioned for Marty in Miami at Barbara Millers Office and Speilberg himself called me at my mom's house in Hollywood FL. to say how funny he though I was and keep him posted as to when I relocated to LA. Great memories. Obviously I didn't get cast but to speak to Speilberg was incredible.
that's good you did'nt get casted for playing as Marty because you should know am the one who needs to be casted as Marty that means nobody is not allowed to be Marty only me who can have you got that I bet you have
@@SonnyGTA I did for Biff because am casted as Marty Mcfly he's the one I wanted to be because am going to be tribute version of him for Michael J fox so I want Speilberg himself to get me on back to the future film as Marty Mcfly who is my favourite main character
Every cast member of Back to the Future was absolutely epic in their role, and Tom as much as any other. More than anything, his dynamic with Crispin Glover is just brilliant.
Thankfully they cast him . It wouldn't have been the same without him. They hit every right note with that film from the casting down to the soundtrack.
So very true!! It is astonishing how the fantasy story line ,actors, actress's, and great effort to make it all so believable and authentic. Tom Wilson was so great playing all of his charactors
@@Weewoo12 yep as Stoltz was quite tall i could see that dynamic wouldn't work. Luckily Wilson was cast before they dropped Stoltz. the increased height difference only helped make him more intimidating.
They always intended it to be MJF, but they got Stoltz as he was unlikeable and it would force them to redo it with MJF. They even directed Stoltz differently, and told him to play the role more seriously.
Tom deserved an oscar for his bttf performance. The most demonstrative actor in the whole series. Everyone else was just being their own personalty...he was performing...magnificently!
To be fair, real life Christopher Lloyd is extremely different from the flamboyant Doc Brown. I think especially back then, Lloyd was known for being very soft-spoken, almost an introvert.
When I saw Wedding Crashers I could not buy into the Bradley Cooper bully. He was just so sadistic for a comedy it pulled me out of the jokes. Biff was a solid one.
Biff had some great lines that only Tom could deliver- “That’s about as interesting as a screen door on a battleship.” “Make like a tree & get outta here.” “Butthead.” “McFly(fill in blank)!!” One of the best comedic villains in cinematic history.
Agree. Sean Connery, Sir Lawrence Olivier or Charlton Heston would merely have been distant seconds. Seriously, maybe Harrison Ford if the age range was right but we were familiar with Ford. I have watched that "Hello. Hello. Anybody home?" clip so many times. He was perfect.
Thanks for playing one of the most memorable antagonist!! "I HATE MANURE!!!"😂😂😂 I still crack up at that line!! 33 years of marriage is some really inspiration!! God bless👍✌
this guy doesnt get NEARLY the amount of praise he deserves for his performance of Biff Tannen. His performance was FLAWLESS!!! Brilliant!! Comedic Timing Impeccable , i mean he was litterally lifted straight from the character well of the great Warnerbrothers classic characters. My god was his work fantastic. his voice, his body language, facial expressions. i can go on for years about the brilliance of his work and the rarity it is.
This video just made my day. I've only seen this man "act" like a complete jerk, whenever I'd seen him. This real life clip shows how complete down to earth he really is. Made my day!
I saw the entire series and it is amazing that when Tom was in high school he was a small sickly guy who got bullied all the time and only grew big later on. He even was scared of himself when he auditioned for the first time where he was asked to bully Marty (then played by Eric Stolz) because it reminded him of how he was bullied himself.
The Biff character in 1985 was him under heavy make-up to look like an old man. Tom Wilson was only 27 when he made BTTF and he looked even younger than his age as well at that time. Hard to believe that Christopher lloyd was 47 but that was a reasonable age for him to be since he was playing a character that existed in the 1950's. So they had to make sure he still look young enough between 1950 and 1985 in contrast. They did some make up work on him for the 1985 version of himself. But yeah, I am with you. He looks far, far younger here than what they made him out to be as an old man in 1985. LOL.
HE was the ultimate bad guy. Likeable and dislikeable, really pulled off the bully character perfectly. He's one of the most memorable bad guys for me.
I had a writing class at UCLA back in the 80's and Tom was one of my classmates. He was the nicest guy and was really funny. After class ended some of my classmates and I started a writer's group and I was tasked with inviting other classmates. I called Tom on a bi-weekly basis for a few months to invite him to the class. He was never able to come but he was always so kind on the phone and would chat for a few minutes before we ended the call. He was and is an awesome performer!
When Tom first auditioned for the role of Biff, Nobody in that audition room realized that Back To The Future would have the timeless success that the trilogy has had. At the time, Tom probably would have been happy just to have been cast in a movie that was successful in moment, regardless of weather or not it turned out to be a beloved cult classic...
I remember being a kid going to Universal Studios Florida and riding the BTTF ride and being amazed that my favorite version of Biff (1955) came back and was a huge part of the ride. He is a legend and such an awesome guy in real life.
His incredible energy and personality is certainly why he got the part and why they apparently liked him so much. I’ve watched a couple of Hollywood auditions and so many come in like they’re defeated and tired of the game.
Scott: one of the most frustrating things must be if you are the first one to audition for a part. No casting director ever says after only one audition "ok, send everyone else home, this is the one we want". They're going to have several auditions, they want to feel like they're earning their paycheck. So after 50 people have auditioned for the part, the C.D. also isn't going to usually pick the first one, because then they think they wasted their time holding all those auditions if the first actor was right for the part! It's like a catch 22 and you're screwed.
Man he is just such a character and you just have to love him for it. would be a once in a life time just to be in his presence and hear him tell a story
Tom Wilson rocks.. I honestly preferred him as Maniac in the Wing Commander games.. He's honestly been voicing characters in video games since the late 90s.. Great guy all around! Glad people like him exist in the entertainment industry! :)
He was so cool opposite Mark Hamill. While Mark Hamill seemed nothing like Blue Hair of WC1 and WC2, Tom Wilson was like the Maniac cartoon in human form.
My 10 year old daughter loves Biff so much! Always quotes his line. Her favorite.. When he shoved Lorraine to the floor in pt2. Lorraine: I'm leaving Biff. Biff: Oh SO GO AHEAD!!
That he’s a fairly normal-sized guy who isn’t naturally intimidating is such a testament to the job he did with that role. Biff comes off like he’s six-eight and 280 pounds of nerd-murdering muscle, while Tom is the father-in-law we ALL wish we had. That’s the definition of iconic.
Well at 6' 2 And a somewhat athletic build, that is still pretty imposing for A high school bully. Especially When going nose to nose with a 5'4, 100 pounds wet Marty.
He portrayed both young and old biff so brilliantly he deserves as much credit and Michel j fox and Christopher Lloyd if not more! I am still fascinated by his performance! What an actor and a real life person! Bravo👏🏼
The BTTF trilogy had a tremendous contribution from this talented, funny and versatile actor Tom Wilson, Biff was perhaps the more difficult character to play in the series, after all these years he still makes me laugh “what the hell is going on?”
454 ... Marty had to be played by Eric Stoltz. The shots had already begun when Eric was replaced by Michael J. Fox. Hard to imagine Marty not being played by Michael, but it was about to happen.
That character sets the Tone for the entire movie then later on on the movies as Biff either gets older or becomes his great great grandfather. JUST AWSOME acting abilities.
He was so great as Biff. All my buddies would just die laughing when we watched him at the movies. We teared up, and we had to go and watch the movie again the following week.
I met Tom in the late 80's while sitting on a curb in front of the Comedy Store on the strip. We talked for a while, and at one point, Tom looked at me and said, "You don't know who I am, do you." I shook my head, no, and then he stood up straight and put on this evil smile, "I'm Biff!" I stared with no reaction. "Biff you dummy, - Back to the Future!" At that point I finally recognized him. He was a joy to talk with...
@@brianjay9811 I can’t even fathom the number of times he’s been asked to say butthead over these years. There was an interview with the actress who played Alex Kinter’s mom in Jaws and she famously slapped Roy Scheider’s character, Chief Brody, after she found out the girl at the beginning of the movie had already recently been killed by a shark. Apparently after the movie came out people (almost all guys) came up to her all the time and asked her to slap them. She obliged for years and years, but finally (I’m not sure when exactly) decided that she wasn’t going to do anymore slapping.
@@Whoopdido777 I once standing with Sam Kinison outside the Comedy Store as people from the slow moving Sunset Strip traffic, pleaded for him to blurt out his famous "Ah - Ahhhhhhh!!!" Sam smiled, then did the yell a couple of times...
@@brianjay9811 Ha ha. Sam probably just walked around doing that for the hell of it. By the way, I was actually unaware of how Sam died. It was in a car accident. A drunk 17 year old kid crossed the center line and hit his car head on. The kid was sentenced to 1 year of probation, 300 hours of community service and had his driver’s license suspended for 2 years. That doesn’t seem right at all.
I've had the pleasure to speak to Tom a couple of times by email: he's a charming, funny and really friendly guy. Apparently, he was bullied himself when he was younger and when Crispin Glover (George McFly) was acting terrified when Biff was tormenting him, Tom stopped the scene and asked Crispin if he was OK.
@@rishabhsemwal4180 that's a very common thing to do: for one good movie in one country be remade entirely differently in another (the best example of this was _The Seven Samurai_ , one of the first true great Japanese movies, being made into one of the greatest American Westerns of all time, _The Magnificent Seven_ ). So thankfully it's not the same as that horrible Ghostbusters remake.
