One of the greatest TV shows of all time? I personally loved the show but I have met a lot of people who didn't understand it and found it not funny at all. I absalutely lov it.
Brilliant. Great memories. Especially, as I come from the North East, look like Oz (was my nickname at Poly) and used to work on a building site to finance my studies - which extended to Germany - where I now am nearly 40 years later. Miss my UK of the late 60’s to mid 1990’s - when I left.
This. Minder. Only Fools & Horses. And before them On The Buses, Love Thy Neighbour and Steptoe & Son. Seriously some of the greatest comedy ever seen on television, could watch them all again and again.
I was in Cologne in Germany back in those days and it was absolute madness. There were so many British people coming over and being paid silly money for working black, with the employers ignoring all the safety standards and not paying their health insurance etc. At the weekends when the "agents" paid them it was wild - far wilder than in the series. On Saturdays when the boat-train came in with another load of "I'll send you and the kids money every week, love" candidates arrived you knew that by midnight half of them would have been involved in at least one fight and most likely arrested.
@@thewomble1509 - to be honest I was actually in a legal job and went to the pubs where all the black workers were just for the fun. A big slice of the money went to the "agents" who were typically British people who made sure that the workers actually got up in the mornings and went to work. The exchange rate was incredible at that time (5 marks to the pound) and people who were willing to work on dangerous jobs - for instance I remember a bunch of lads who worked cleaning the insides of storage tanks which had contained toxic chemicals - were probably getting something like 1.000 marks or more in the hand some weeks.
@@thewomble1509 - more like 80 quid a week I think. The problem was that there was hardly any work anyway. I hardly have any friends left from those days - most seem to have died! I'll check with one of them what he was working black in Germany back then so that I can be sure I'm not exaggerating about the "silly money" and I'll post a new comment with anything I find out.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-POO4lrTclNY.html
