I had the same problem, and after fixing, instead of the copper paste I drilled on both sides in the pipes holes and mounted grease nipples and fill them up every year. No problem since then. Love your videos!
About to go tear my 928 auger apart. Watching this video has shown me exactly how to go about it, and fix what is broken. Thanks for taking the time to make it! You rock!
You're so much good at explaining things that can be implied to all kind of different stuff not only in machine that you currently showing. Keep up the good work.
Very nice, I have a HS970 and will have to take out the augers to straighten them up as they have been trying to eat some ice. This video showed me that it is quite easy. Thank you.
Donny, Thanks for a great video. I am a factory trained Honda Motorcycle Tech and this auger drive was giving me a hard time. That little internal snap ring was the culprit! I am very impressed with your techniques and your "tech tips". I live in Steamboat Colorado and we have plenty of snow to play with! Maybe we will visit sometime! TTFN ! Thanks again for your knowledge and your time.
Dony, Outstanding videos; will save us do-it-your-selfer-boys a lot of cash; I am sure a shop would charge $500.00 or so for this work. Thanks for putting your time in for others; not too many people would do what you do. God bless you and your family.
donyboy73 Dony! Thanks. Question. The shaft broke on my Honda 1132 snow blower beast. I have the new Honda shaft. Have the gear box removed and on bench. To remove shaft can I just tap one end gently to remove after spraying both bearings with penetrating fluid? If yes, what side do I tap the shaft through? Thanks in advance my Canadian friend!
You do some nice work I must say. In the clip at the end of the vid the gear box did look like there is a lot of movement in it . Is this normal because it would explain why the top casing cracked. ?? From my angle it looks like the impeller shaft is slightly bent.
@Smallgasengine1 - Yes because the auger gear box is designed to be assembled and disassembled by that side. If you go to part 2 of this video you will see that there is an internal oil seal on the same side, the cap is just there to stop snow and dirt from getting in.
@Bonfield2002 yes there is a bit of movement in the shaft, unfortunately the owner was cheap and didn't want to replace it. it broke in the first place because the augers were seized on the shaft
Very Good Job DB! Excellent work! I wouldnt worry too much what it looks like, its how it works that counts Did you service the drive? To quote Lawnboy, that machine is Hevi Duti. God Bless, Bob
I like honda equipment but I was suprised the gear box broke in the first place, and I noticed after the repair the gearbox swayed about quite a bit when it was turning the auger.gotta love copperslip
How practical would it be to transplant a HS928 remote snow chute control back to the older smaller HS622? I have found that is the one big fault with my HS622. Highly frustrating and at times impossible to get to in some tight situations.
Dony, I just purchased a 2015 HS 928tas snowblower and I used it once and can't get over how quiet the gx270 is..I wish my new one had the electric chute control joy stick. I'm thinking they don't make those models any more.. Nice videos but hope this doesn't happen to me in like 20 years...lol
yes they are a nice machine, the electrics are optional and still available. just maintain it every year and you should be ok. usually it's lack of maintenance that leads to the problems in this video
Hi, I have a very similar on a Honda HS724 model. What I found is the same problem with gear box casing. However I believe this is caused by the bearing on the auger housing, behind second stage auger, which I found completely destroyed . I could not however figure out how to remove the belt pully bearing. They're are welded nuts on the pully side of auger housing, but no way to get at the nuts inside the auger housing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
nice one man.... I am wornding why you didnt just take a gear box of a junk blower that would of saved alot of time and money. was it because the gear box was not like ones you had laying around? One more question, what's that little back bar on top of the fron of the blower?
Hi Dony, thanks for the great videos. Did you use Coppeslip to lube the auger shafts? I have a copper based lube that I use for my car brakes, I'm thinking I can use that to lube my auger shafts too?
great job! love the videos.. I own a hs828 snowblower and this season I noticed a leak of oil coming from the governer shaft located at the top of the engine. its a gx240 is that normal? I checked the oil level and it's where it's supposed to be at. I also noticed blue smoke blowing when I use it, comes and goes . currently using Honda 5w30 as specified.. any help would be appreciated.
Don, I appreciated your video so much, that I subscribed. I have a Honda Snowblower model HS828 and I have noticed this winter that when I pull the starting rope that quite often it does not engage. I continue trying and after several minutes it will engage and start immediately. Would appreciate any words of advice as to what I need to do to fix this problem. Thanks.
Is that standard 80W90 gear oil what Honda specifies for the worm gear? Some other machines require 00 grease, other literature recommends ISO 480 (SAE 140 eq. viscosity) for worm gears... I'm trying to make sense of it all ;-)
@TheBrokemechanic - The black bar is a shoot cleaning bar for when snow gets clogged up in the blower shoot, or as I like to call them "idiot bars". This is a safety tool so idiots stop putting their hands down the shoot and hurt themselves with a spinning impeller.
This could have been prevented if Honda provided an easy means to lubricate the space between the augurs and the drive shafts. Think ZERK FITTINGS! Just another example of costly cost savings by Hona. For that, think of purchasing a different machine
foggysail - Clear case of criticising based on ignorance, without knowing what or why. :-( At 1:36 you can clearly see hole on the auger tube (left side of screen)... Use your preferred oil spray can, preferably with a straw for easier application, done! No need for grease gun, zerk fittings and the likes. Why do people criticize without knowing what they're talking about!? Honda applied "KISS" on this, as usual. Less tools, less time, easier for the end user. Same effect. ;-)
everything was good except the bolts you put in thr boss cam. those are supposedt o be boss pins that are actually shear pins also., not hardware bolts.
