Have you ever heard of the fascinating new technology called Augmented Reality? It allows you to add virtual 3D-content to your real environment - even more - to interact with this 3D-content in your personal space. My video shows an example where we superimposed 3d-content on a classical encyclopedia (a kind of a magic book) Augmented Reality will change to way we use information in the future. You can meet your friends while walking through the street, your virtual buddy walking next to you. You can shop online and try out your favorite products (e.g. furnitures) in your living room before buying them. Generally speaking Augmented Reality brings to together two worlds: The real world and the virtual world. This will allow to combine every kind of user related content with the personal world of the user.

UPDATE: 1 year later - thank you very much for all your inspiring feedback and comments. Today this technology is already in use for books and interactive advertisement tools. There is also a live-demo available.

Microcomputing + flat OLED + AR = realistic graphics + Wearable + cool + HUD + interactive environment. We may be entering the virtual world faster than we think. This will undermine our perception of the real world, i'm both excited and worried about it.

I can see a newspaper like the one in the harry potter movies. Whereas the pictures are animated. I look forward to this technology :)

I looked into the Microvision web site. It would be cool if they develop this. It's be like the holy grail of head-mounted displays, but I don't understand how your eye is supposed to focus on the image and see it clearly when it's so close to your eye. Any ideas how that would work?

@MacTutorials1992 Well - matchmoving in realtime is actually AR. But you couldn't possibly tell in a recorded movie, it might have been rendered ... or captured. So - AR is really only AR when you're present when it happens. And if you see it again, it's a glitch in the matrix ;-)

Dose this have anything to do with the AR glasses Microvision is doing. I heard you can tag buildings in AR if the building has the capability to project AR. I cant wait to see this technology out for the public, this is a project I would love to work in.

Like i said...The ability to upload a library without the markers...or have it so you can download a library from a friend....or even make it recognize other objects...

@NikoKun glasses with earphones and small computer (powerfull like an average pda) with wifi and gsm capabilites, GPS, accelerometers and EEG reader. And server in your wardrobe. This, my friend, is future.

I just meant that in real life, outside of movies, that we would be able to see a video clip in our daily newspaper, or otherwise. Maybe like a navigational assistant who stands on your dashboard.

i got that software but when i downloaded it all i got was the software and 1 blank card example i got lots of models with it but no card to print out help me plz

the only problem i think with this is that what will we be actully doing(in the real world) how are we gonna be kept in good health, proper diet etc etc... and are we all gonna sit in a chair and put on vr goggles? or are we gonna be kept inside a tank filled with water like those sci fi movie? can anyone answer my question?

Really the only problem I see with this is that people are wary about putting images on glasses, what with the whole Virtual Boy incident

Well, yeah. But stick on a pair of glasses with screens in them, put a camera over each eye et voila! Instant stereoscopic interactive computer.

What do you mean? This technology replaces markers in movies with 3d models. It already exists...

Unfortunately, porn is one of probably only four main drives for invention. The other three being warfare (we need a new way to kill our enemy), necessity (we need this to survive), and ego (we need to make this to show how awesome we are.) That being said this is a great development and one that may overshadow the Internet in how we share information.

even though porn is probably one of those evils that most people think about when they think of the internet. well the thing is, with out porn, the internet wouldn't be what it is today. Used to fix issues and do replays of what people would surf on the net. 98% of everything surfed on the net is porn related. so in theory, this product could be used for anything, but will probably first be used for porn. I more think of what it could do, Imagine, Your home photo's Coming to life.
