As someone in their early 60's, I heartily agree. If I could tell my younger self anything, it would be to let go of the anxiety of getting older and instead enjoy where you are. I still have trouble with that, but I'm working on it. 🌠

Id proudly claimed 40’s is the new 20’s after a successful fitness journey I had since last March 2021. This August is actually my anniversary of reaching healthy target weight. I did keep an exercise routine/goal journal but it wasn’t fancy like this monthly planner. My Dentist had complimented that I looked younger, am I getting younger? No I’m getting older, I just turned 44 this past April. But wow its a complimented to appear 20 years younger so I guess 40’s is the new 20’s. When you take care of yourself, age is just a number.

What a beautiful theme, Elizabeth! I love the combination of the black, the gold and the tea-stained paper (it looks so good on the tabs!). The final illustration you did with your cats is my favourite of the whole setup, just absolutely gorgeous. And I can relate so well to your thoughts on turning 30. I will be turning 29 soon and already panicking about the big 30 next year. I think this happens every decade, because I had a similar crisis when I was turning 20 and properly transitioning into adult life but 30 somehow feels a lot more serious. However, we're also still super young in the grand scheme of things, so it's also exciting to start coming into your own and starting a new chapter.

Beautiful spread this month! The brush you need is called a ‘rigger’, so called because it was designed for painting the rigging (ropes) on sailing ships. Makes long, thin, straight lines easy! 🌙

Yeah for birthday month - me too! Will be turning 35 😊 (insha-Allah). What beautiful art! I love that the clouds are inspired by Hercules, I love the art too and the artist Gerald Scarfe is an amazing wild guy who did the art for Pink Floyd’s The Wall. I do like that the animators softened his usually jagged edges. The clouds also remind me of Tibetan wall scrolls. 🌚✨ Edit: I’m 42 - the answer to life, the universe and everything - and I feel much more settled in myself now than I did in my 20s. Something to look forward to!

My 20s were spent being mommy. My 30s was a time of building my career beginning with college. My 40s were spent grieving. And the beginnings of my 50s is all about healing. The years go fast. As they say in 13 going on 30 … thirty, flirty and thriving! It is a momentous incredible time. ❤️

Beautiful spreads, as always. Your videos always brings me such peace. As for turning 30... I turned 30 in August last year and it certainly makes you think. When I was a kid and then teenager, I used to think that 30 was so old. But I don’t feel old. What helped me was to look back at my life and realize that, so far, my life had just gotten better and better the older I’ve gotten. So why would my 30s be any different? And now that I’m approaching 31, I can say that this past year was my favorite yet. And I am so excited to see what the next year will bring. Happy birthday fellow Leo. I'm also struggling with a lot of existential intrusive thoughts similar to the things you mentioned. I'm 33 but got married this summer, and I think hitting such a big life milestone for me triggered those ruminations on the passage of time and how much time (and other milestones) are left. Working through it day by day and trying to find joy in the *now.* Great video as always ❤️

I just turned 30 in December and felt the same things and honestly after over 6 months of being 30, everything feels better and more focused. All of the things you think you've run out of time for are still possible, even if the world tells people start to wither and die after 30 and that time is running out. It's a lie. For what it’s worth from a 44 year old….I’m happier now than I ever was in 20’s. I wouldn’t go back! As you get older, you get comfortable in your skin and that feels amazing.

I’m a pro painter, and yeah: the long skinny brush is as good as it gets (the length stores some load, as you know). 😅 Metallics are particularly tricky to allow to flow because the beautiful flake creates a lot more friction in the hair than pigment (watercolor), and certainly much more than ink or dye. You might like to try a fillable calligraphy pen/brush or even a “precision applicator” with a liquid gold leaf paint or ink (as long as it’s real gold leaf, you’ll have the same look that won’t patina or tarnish). 🌞🌜💫

For me, it was turning 31 that caused the existential dread - I was in my 30s and couldn’t escape that fact. The advice I got at the time that really helped was to live my life not try to build a life. My 20s were shaky so I was running to catch up to the milestones I felt I’d missed. In the end I let go of expectations and just followed my bliss, trying and creating, and just living. Remember that life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans and enjoy the journey.

🌙 I turned 30 in February and I felt all those same emotions and fears and excitement about starting a new decade of my life. Nervous because I don't know where I want to go from here, disappointed because my 20-year-old self wanted me to be somewhere much different than where I am now (physically, mentally, and locationally (is that a word? 😅)), scared because 30 seemed like such a large number and a daunting ahe, but also excited because it was an entire new decade to explore. I might not be where I wanted to be when I was 20, but right now I'm exactly where I *NEED* to be (physically and mentally at least. Though I'm still hoping to change locations, but that will take some extra planning). ☀️

Happy Birthday! I hope you can let go and embrace being 30. My son and I were discussing recently the year my husband turned 30. He was so depressed for over a year. My son, who turns 50 this month, actually remembered it. We were having the conversation because his dad had asked him if he were having feelings about turning 50. Thankfully, my son is quite levelheaded about such things. He is a be thankful for today kind of guy. This spread is soooo pretty!

I don't think there's anything wrong with being excited for your birthday! I am the same way. And I also hit 30 this year🙀 I used to have similar existential intrusive thoughts about turning 30 and "getting old". But at some point, I realized that my 20's were actually kinda rough, and now I feel like I've grown so much and learned so many things about myself and life, and I'm incredibly excited for the next decade of my life. I've been living without any internet for the past 4 weeks and the moment we get the new wifi up and running, I came straight here. And thank God I did because this is stunning! I'm always such a huge fan of you using gold so the whole theme was beautiful, but my favourite part is definitely the final drawing of you as a goddess. My birthday is in November, and I turn 30, also, so happy birthday :). I wanted to share something that has been helping me deal with the same set of emotions that you’ve gracefully shared in the video. My mom told me that her 30’s were her prime, she felt her most mature, most beautiful, capable, wise, confident. I realize that we spend the first two decades chasing after all those qualities, and if we don’t stop for a moment, we fail to realize that we are wiser, more confident, more mature, more beautiful. Yes you may not have it all, but you can’t discredit yourself, and the two-decade’s worth of effort it took you to get here. You’ve got this, even if you don’t think you do.❤

Re: seeking a brush to keep the lines consistent and straight. Try out eyeliner brushes! Typically fairly dense and specifically constructed to do just that - create consistent and straight lines.

Such a beautiful magical set-up! I just turned 64 and remember going through a crisis leading up to my 30th as well, but when i did turn 30 i was quite calm and serene about it, mostly because i was happy where i was in my life. I hope you have a wonderful birthday month!

I didn't realize you were also turning 30! I'm turning 30 on December 2nd. It has been on my mind a lot as well. Doctors told my mom that because of my disability, spina bifida, I would never walk, talk, or attend mainstream schools. One doctor even said I would be "a 'vegetable'" by age 5. They were wrong and I've actually accomplished everything they said I wouldn't, and more, actually; but I still find myself worrying about the things I haven't done. I've survived multiple brain surgeries, spinal surgery the day after I was born, infected shunts and infections in my brain, sepsis, cellulitis, two motorized scooter crashes, and severe depressive episodes. I have a master's degree in art therapy. I'm in a wonderful relationship. I've had articles published on The Mighty and may get other opportunities to have my work published. I was a straight A student in graduate school. But I still feel bothered by the things I haven't accomplished that it seems most people my age have. For example, I don't have a driver's license yet. I have an awesome telehealth externship, but I don't have a "job" since I can't drive yet. I struggle with day-to-day tasks like cooking and laundry in my supposedly "wheelchair-accessible" apartment. I'm in a serious relationship, but not married. I'm the "fun aunt" to my niece and nephew but don't have kids of my own yet. I know I should focus on the fact that I've accomplished a lot, but I can't help but feel a little sad about the things I haven't. I'm excited about my birthday, but nervous for the future.

The 30 dread is real. I turned 30 in December and it felt so massive until.. afterwards when I realized nothing really changed.

Anytime I start feeling my mortality on or near my birthday, I just tell myself that it beats the alternative. That always helps and I’ve had a LOT more birthdays than you. Also, I have quite a few friends who didn’t have the privilege of old age, so I try to treasure every birthday.
