I love the garden beds thru the garden area. It makes weeding so much easier and less on your hands, back and knees! All you have to do is just keep on trying when potatoes just don't "like" that type of soil or the set up, or whatever they simply just don't like. I know rich composed dirt, they will like it!
I love the beds too. They have saved my back and using the straw as mulch has helped keep them moist and weed free (well almost!😉). We have plans for beds for the potatoes next year. Adjust and adapt!!😊
I’m glad your video was suggested to me. I look forward to watching all your videos and following along. You have a very interesting story and I appreciate all your hard work in carving out your homestead. Plus, I love the state of Maine.
Hi Vicki!!👋 We are so happy you found our channel!! Hope you enjoy the videos of our journey out here in North Eastern Maine!! We appreciate all of your kind words and your support. They mean a lot to us!! Have a wonderful day!!😊
Thank you!!😊 The garden is really starting to come in! We are happy about the stove…get to extend the season a bit. There is a lot to miss in Maine. It’s a wonderful state!!♥️
Love this video. Tip on the corn, plant as soon as frost is out of the ground and same with potatoes. Also, potatoes love mounds of soil. So if you mix the straw with your compost, leave it in hills (mounds) when you put it in your garden. Plant your seed potatoes in the top of the hills (mounds). They need a lighter (fluffier) soil to be able to grow the potatoes. Hope this helps 😉
Just found you guys! We're south in Connecticut and I learned so much from your garden tour. We have had success and failures too. Like what you said about you learn from mistakes
Hi Mary! Glad you found us!! So glad you enjoyed the tour. Every year we take note of our success and failures and what we can do to improve things. We are already planning a few things (potatoes, tomatoes and squash) to improve upon!! Hope to hear from you again soon! Have a great night! 😊
Great video. Excellent garden tour. Every year your garden will be different. That’s what I have found, anyway. I use DE in my small raised bed garden. I revitalize my soil yearly using a Mel’s mix recipe. I also use tons of straw in the bed and walkways.
Thank you so much!😊 It has changed yearly. Learn something new and implement it!! This is my first year using DE in the garden and it has helped a ton!! We already are stock piling on soil, chicken manure and of course our compost for next year. Straw has definitely helped a ton…less watering and weeds!! Can’t wait to see how the garden does next year with all the added nutrients!! ♥️
We have the door and the window and there is plenty of draft from the walls not being sealed. Also there are gaps at the roof and floor. Will take time to dial it in.
@@HanbleceyaRanch I'm not sure now. Used to be able to buy the sets at farm stores but since C-19 I haven't been able to find them locally. Someone thought Gurneys sold them but I haven't looked. I do know for keepers, they are one of the best I've grown over the years.
Jason & Jenn, Here in CA rasberries are grown in almost every ag field. Raspberries are set up to grow on metal fencing as what you have for your green beans. I see that your raspberries are next to the metal fencing; before you dig them out, tie them back and you will see that the raspberries themselves hang outward and away from the plant for easy picking.
