Brassica is in, buckwheat down. Oats and peas in about 20 days and winter rye. Moved a box blind today, will start clearing our stand entry trails next week. By August 25th, we're outta there for fishing and some downtime. Thanks for the confirmation Jeff. We're feeling better about it each day. Even had a gorgeous 10 on one of the kicking sticks and scrape! Keep at it and thank you!
Wow...all awesome work to get accomplished...bet it feels great!? And I got you...dang autocorrect on the licking sticks ☺️ Happens to a lot of folks...and me!
I’ve been eagerly awaiting this month, I can’t wait to watch these deer migrate to our land as the food plots grow, we have added more plots for a total of 3, travel corridors and bedding in between, great hidden access, mock scrape, it will be a successful year no matter what, great video Jeff, I had a group of three 6pointers walk thru a couple days ago which I’ve never seen in 15 years there. I focused on creating cover and breaking down sight lines, and it’s working, now for the August chores, we are using the blend of seed you made👍👍
Got in 3 acres of Big and Beasty last night! Ended up finishing in the rain. 1200# 14-14-14. Fertilizer. Then it rain another 1/2 inch last night and today. Getting excited!
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 It's helping more than you know! You're a big part in me starting to document deer on Michigan public land! Nobody will probably watch when I release content on another channel but I know the effort will put me on more deer and that's what this is about! Hope to meet ya in the industry some day sir!
Going to do some no till next year have almost all my stuff till this year and the outskirts planted bad news is I went to the doctor and got my leg in a boot yesterday. Thanks for sharing the excitement just got to work on our way to work around this new challenge best of luck to see you soon everybody
Great Stuff there Doc. You've coached us through the summer and bare ground is waiting. Fall Planting time..finally we have a three day front coming in Sunday with over 1.0" of rain predicted for lower Michigan. The heat is finally subsiding. Barasica, radishes, winter greens, peas etc. to be followed with Urea in 4-5 weeks and rye later in Sept. Topping off water holes, checking stands can't wait for the fun in October. Thanks for all your help.
I have some good deer on camera. One is the big 8 I got the sjeds off of in March. And he grew a lot.Still an 8 but very impressive. You are getting everyone on their toes now Jeff.Great stuff.AGAIN..
Can't wait. We have been watching your vids for some time and going back to our new property. Sept 26 here in Ohio is the opener. We still have to clear trails and hide the blinds. Great vid.
If you set up your stands in March, all of the sign is there from last November. The woods is open and the temperature is nice for setting up stand sights. That way you don't have so much to do in August.
Unlike to take mine down in March. Season ends end of January for a lot of my hunting...need to wait for snow to melt. I also like clearing lanes with leaves on the trees...
There’s one big buck I let get away from me last season I’m praying he’s still around he will be a wall hanger sure enough this year. I could’ve taken him last season if it had been rifle season but I didn’t want to chance a running shot across the big field with my muzzle loader so I let him go. Be safe out there and GOD BLESS y’all brother Amen 🙏
I've personally seen/heard them spook deer over a 1/2 Mike away starting in the late 80s. Last year it was crazy the deer that were being spooked by a neighbor that was 3/4 mile away. The deer were between he and I and I could see his headlamp across the valley. Deer were in between us running at me, from him. I use a very dim light focused on the ground...that's about it. In thick timber it doesn't matter that much but with no leaves and big woods or open fields...very, very, bad.
I have some small pruning shears I take with me to clear my trails out I clip a little at a time on each trip. I cleaned a lot out during this turkey season I’ve got a new two man blind I’m goin to put up soon. I’m getting ready to put a plot out in a few days it’s raining here a lot right now
Jeff, due to lack of rain the foxtail out grew my buckwheat. Have plenty of gly to kill it. Question is should I still run the cultipacker over it before spraying, or spray into the standing weeds?
Are you going to do Hunting vlogs? Like, film you hunting? I put out a mock scrape and I've had some Bucks hit it. Thx for giving advice on hunting and keep doing what your doing and I think you deserve more subs. Good Luck this season!!
Where the deer are at during the summer doesn't matter...unless you can kill them there during the season 😉 It's cool to get a summer pic if a giant, but unless he is revealing his fall pattern (or where you can kill him) at the same time it doesn't mean much.
I guess you haven't heard of our velvet hunt we get 2 buck tags for august 20-23 i think are the dates so we do get a chance at summer bucks on private land.but I agree fall is the most important one to focus on.
I hear you...makes sense! I guess I should have said where you expect to kill them ☺️ Good luck...fun to catch them in their Summer patterns for sure! Far to often hunters are placing trail cams on summer minerals, waterholes, food sources that do not have stand locations near...
Hey Jeff, Really good video. Im from Southwest PA and I just started watching your videos about a week ago and really wish I would've found them years ago. It makes so much sense what you say about summer buck patterns and fall buck patterns (I never thought of it that way). So I dont currently do food plots however your no till food plot video has me really wanting to for next year. But I used to get tons of buck pics in the summer then not see bucks in the fall or up until the pre rut. I moved all my cams to different locations (places I could see a buck being in the fall), now I see bucks but not nearly as often. Do you think that is a good sign? Keep up the great work and content.
Thanks a lot Jay and that is a great that you found the channel...really appreciate it! Getting those random pics right now where you expect to kill a buck later is a very good thing 👍 Keep at it! Also, I hope you try the food plots next year...they can be incredible for both your herd and hunt ☺️ Thank YOU!
Greatly enjoy your videos what is recommended when you get pictures of good bucks during October on mock scrapes but as time goes the trail seems to dry up?
Hi Robert thank you! That really means too much hunting pressure, a lack of Fall food or Fall cover or a lot of times a combination of all 3. Really oats to be overly critical. I hope that helps?
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 that is what puzzles me im the only one hunting this big parcel of property and i really take it serious hunting wind and so on .i can set and talk for days about hunting when i meet up with someone just as serious as i try to be.
Jeff, I greatly appreciate all your videos and have watched a good majority of them multiple times. But, I can't seem to find where you talk about specific fertilizer application and the timing of the application. The only thing I've caught on your videos, that i can recall, is the 46-0-0 on brassica post greenup. What about fertilizing the oat, peas and beans combination? I realize it's all about PH but assuming it's established, when and what fertilizer do you recommend? Would you apply it again say in...September or October?
With the way this year has been I cannot wait for hunting season. COVID can cancel a lot of things but it won’t shut the season down. There’s nothing more socially distant than being in the woods alone 20ft up a tree lol
Morning Bob! I like 100#s of peas, 50# beans and 30-40#s oats. That stuff is hard to find right now tho! Are you stocked up? I fertilize by soil test recommendation on the peas and beans and oats and rye side...or less...but I fertilize on the brassica side and then add more in the form of 75#s Urea about 3-4 weeks after brassica germination, before rain.
Someday is it possible to show how you mix glyphosate and 24d and how much land you cover with amount of gallons. Just got a sprayer and chemicals but sort of intimidated by the process. I will do it but hints and tips would be great. Thanks Jeff
Hi Travis...never listen to or worry about ounces per gallon rate, etc. Instead, you have to figure out your ATV and sprayer rate, then add chemicals. Fairly easy process. I hope that this helps! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_erSvQfWsaw.html
When crushing buckwheat would you recommend crushing it with a lawn roller or atv tires? Do not have a Cultipacker, was hoping to get one this summer but never got to it.
Hi Paul I would use both and just make sure that you follow up at the same time with the Glyphosate to keep it smashed down. You will notice that it crushes really well...
I normally agree with every word you say, but if you are walking to stand and sweating you are better off having someone drop you off at the bottom of the tree before daylight than setting spreading scent everywhere after a long hike.
not everyone wants a treestand you can drive a atv up to. I specifically hunt in areas were no one can drive to. Thats where the deer tend to be, and lazy hunters tend to not.
At times if there is full sun...at least a 1/4 acre or larger. Switchgrass needs full sun and no competition...donor can't even be planted in partial shade.
Hey Gang, question. I have 2 clover plots that are 4 years old and want to covert them next year to buckwheat no till plan. Would it be ok to throw 100lbs of Winter Rye over the top before a rain and as the clover goes dormant this fall the rye will attract and give me green during September/Oct/Nov??
You said to plant in August, is that in general? Reason asking, alot of people in Alabama plant in September and some even in October.. thanks in advance.
Hi Matt, no not at all. Seed had to get on the soil and then it has to hey sun to grow. Any of those seeds do well throwing on the soil...but only if proper weed control has taken place first...typically 6-10 weeks in advance.
Whitetail Habitat Solutions Shoot. Ok. We mowed and sprayed about 3-4 weeks ago. Everything is dead other than a random milkweed here or there. I’ll fire up the tractor and disc it up this weekend.
We got a velvet hunt comin next month August if it’s not to hot. It was a scorcher last year I didn’t go I’ve got to put my camera out on my lease at my stand. I’m getting the fever bow hunting fever it’s getting bad
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Jeff, can I spray glyphosate and plant brassica's the same day? With glyphosate being a post-emergent, will it impact the seeds? Thanks in advance.
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 I have only a few small plots. Half acre each. Plant to plant Saturday, rain in the forcast Sunday and Monday. YooHoo!
Man I was so bummed I was watching the Facebook live you did at Lacrosse Archery and you just go to a switch grass question at the end of hour and I missed the answer because the video stopped, any chance the rest of that video would be posted. I had 3 years or prep to the switch grass runs of about 10 feet wide, good weed kill for a couple years, bare ground, frost seeded it February but, still got some weeds and competing grass coming through hoping I can save what I have and somehow fix the spots that maybe wrecked. Thanks for all the great content.
No...I wouldn't paint the trees with it tho ☺️ But on stand your downwind shouldn't have any deer traveling thru it anyways...right now tho you won't hurt your season working in the woods. I personally highly recommend it!
Thank God my dad said we weren't going to wear mosquito spray on the hunting property and when I went out to help him with the trail camera I was swarmed by mosquitoes also do you know any good setups that I would be in hearing and sight range of my dad since by law I have to when hunting
Hi Caleb! I definitely wouldn't go in the woods without mosquito spray this time if the year, and I expect to shoot the oldest bucks in the neighborhood this Fall. I like hunting the same deer line of movement...both have mock scrapes at your stand, both with same wind advantage. You can be a pretty good distance and still hear each other. That sounds exciting tho...how old are you?
Been giving deer chore lists since May...maybe you are watching the wrong month, lol. Just back up 👍 Also for the majority of whitetail hunters across the entire country...the season opens some time in Sept thru October 1st. In time for 90% of all whitetail hunters ☺️ So just in time except for some outliers and even then, just watch the tips for a different month. With your attitude you will definitely want to mute the Sept deer chores vid, lol will drive you nuts! And October, Nov, Dec, January, etc...always something to do in the deer world 😜
