THISSSSS is how you do an "antagonist", I don't hate him, I was mad by his actions, but they gave us a reasoning without trying to reedem him.

I hated his actions but remembering that Malte originally auditioned for Simon's role takes the anger away. Malte really did a great job being August. He's the hottest antagonist lmao.

This is how you portrait a good villain tbh even when you hate him so much for all the awful shit he did you can help but feel some level of empathy for all the trauma, insecurities and even personality disorders he's fighting with

I feel a little bad for him. It seems like he is so insecure that he needs to be the coolest. And it looks like he have some kind of eating disorder, like he is training all the time, ant when he looked in the mirror he thought he looked “fat” I hope we get to see more of that in season 2.

This show is filled with great actors but August is my favourite performance. Malte has just killed this role. The layers and truth he brings to what could be a one note character is insane. I’m so glad he didn’t get the role of Simon cause no one else could play August like this.

honestly, they need to go into the storyline with his addiction. and also figure out wtf he is doing with his relationship to Wilhelm.

August is that one character you can't deny an asshole, but being an asshole is just one of his personalities. I feel like his character is very deep. It's obvious he didn't had a good childhood, but if there's something that makes me unable to hate him is that he's very passionate. He is a leader (ok before anyone say anything, I didn't say he is a 'good leader' but still, he has qualities of a leader) and he's very passionate about it. I mean, despite being not enough sometimes **and always almost everytime, he's always seen in the show trying HARD. You can always see him exercising/trainings, shooting etc. like HE IS trying so hard to be perfect. His passion is insurmountable and he knows how to take his work seriously. Just look at him on S2EP6 practicing the SPEECH-for the royal family-despite being unwell, and despite being only a SUB. A sub that will take over only if Wilhelm couldn't make the speech. You give him a task and he'll work for it like a dog. He carry a blood of a royal and he wanted so bad to be acknowledged as one, I don't see anything wrong with it. Coming from that point of view, it makes sense that he hated the idea that Wilhelm, whose the crown is being shoved into-yet he only wanted to throw it away. August is that one who started with nothing and has to work for it, while Wilhelm has it from the start. August always has to hold on a rope that connects him with the royal family, and one mistake could cut that rope. He appears perfect, and bad. He is bad because there's no one to guide him from the start to make the right choices, he's been with himself from the start, so he thinks he's doing what he is 'left' to do. There in fact, has a lot of choices. But August is just like a child forced to act like a man at a young age, and is so afraid of making mistakes that it has a reversed effect instead. He can't do anything right. It shows in his character that he regrets things, apologizes for it, and tries to make up for it but always ended up making the wrong choices again and again. He is an asshole, everybody knows that, but no one recognizes he is also not okay that has to rely on pills or some shit to function.

I was debating to hate/love him the whole time, I hated that he posted the video but I kinda understand his reasonings, he's just so difficult to truly hate ;-;

i’m late to the fandom, but august is such a confusing character. and one of the scenes that confuses me the most is when he and wille are outside peeing in the bush or whatever at his inauguration (?) party to the secret society. he seems genuinely happy to be with wille, and then wille goes on about how he feels guilty for partying when his brother has died. and august seemingly comforts him and calms him down by shushing him and trying to relieve his guilt. but there’s also a semblance of annoyance detected, and its maybe because august doesn’t feel guilty for partying because he thought he was doing something good for wille and didn’t consider his brother. as if he’s immediately assuming less of himself because he didn’t consider that. because he knows that despite what wille says, he would make a better king. so it just really makes me question any tenderness between them

“Comparison is killing me slowly” Honestly, I feel like that lyric relates to August a lot. I mean he is literally the Cousin to the future King of Sweden. He’s probably being compared to Wilhelm in almost every aspect of his life... I doubt he wanted to “ruin” Wilhelm’s life but he was probably jealous and wanted to ruin Wilhelm’s reputation to make himself seem like the Better Person

Malte really slayed as August!! 🔥🔥👏👏 I feel like August was really trying to take down Simon through Wille bc he wanted him for himself and was jealous that Wille had him. And to keep tabs on him and make sure he didnt get in serious trouble becsuse of it (which he knew he wouldn't besides the queen checking him for it) ,he got with Sara. And she was already an easy target because she has Asperger's and ADHD Tricking her into thinking he was gonna turn himself in by helping her get into Hillerska and giving her sex.

i hate august but i also feel sorry for him but i mostly hate him

I love this asshole, but I am only at ep. 4. For now he hasn't overstepped any boundaries (the Initiation was wtf though) I initially expected him to when I first saw his character. But he is currently loosing control of his well-kempt demeanour (even if it's easy for the audience and even for some characters to see his anxiety and controlling behaviour stemming from it). I also spoilered myself so.. that's going to happen, I however want to understand the backround since August is.. well.. exactly that. A character whose greatness stemms from complexity and backround reasons. SPOILER ALERT Edit: Done watching and now he fucked up big time twice (wanting to blame the drug stuff on Simon and uploading the video) thus overstepped the boundaries as anticipated. I count the first Sara kiss as boundary overstepping as well, I reckon.

So yeah, hate August for that. But he's been also trough a lot of pain and I feel so sorry for him. His father's suicide fucked him up, then his mother, then he is broke and even Felice doesn't love him. He's addicted to meds & I guess also sport and I guess August as a person is just really lonely and a fucking mess. So I get that he is jealous of Willhelm. I feel bad for August . He lost his father , his family money , and I feel like he was in good relationship with Eric so I think it also was for him to deal with his death . He suffer a lot of from depression so he is taking meds for ADHD for axiety and depression just to pretend that nothing has happened. He desperately looking for someone who will like him , accept him so that why he was Felice , and I think that also he wanted Wilhelm to be his friend but it didn't work . In Sarah he was real person , that care for him , like him doesn't care if he has money or not . I feel like when he was with Sarah his mental state was better. Sport and alcohol was his coping mechanism to deal with pain . I feel like he is potrayed like bad person and Willl like good but I think that Will is prone more to use his position to treat people badly and cut off his life when he don't need them like with Felice first he didn't wanted to talk with her , spend time with her because he though she like him only because he is a prince. He knows that he has power ver August and sometimes he uses in in mean way. He thinks thet he is only one going though hard stuff.
