Dave, I just want to appreciate your honesty and effort you put into making a video. This time you reviewed after I purchased S17pro and I agree 100% with you. Stay transparent!
Thanks for the review, Dave. My S17 Pro, which I ordered three days ago and am getting excited about, is still scheduled for a Tuesday delivery by DHL. (Unlike all my other purchases from China, including the Denafrips Ares 12th-1 recently, this package is taking a westerly route rather than an easterly one. It departed a DHL facility in the UK this morning. It's heading for Newark International Airport and, since I live less than ten miles away, I'm hoping it might sneak in on Monday.)
Well this looks like this years SA-1 in terms of subjective performance for the price. Which makes me naturally skeptical because this seems like the perfect device to make people with the SA-1 consider buying another amp they don’t need. At same time, every reviewer so far on RU-vid seems to love this thing and HeadFi forum posters seem to enjoy the sound. I don’t think I’ve seen / read one bad thing about the sound on this thing. Not sure if it will measure well but subjectively seems like everyone loves it. I might push buy.
Soundstage is similar size but different in presentation as the Mytek HPA has more depth, separation and space The HPA is more direct and distinct in its imaging and placement.
Great review as usual Dave. I only want one stack on my desk to use for a very long time. its seems like the way to go is the S17 pro with a DAC instead of the s9C Pro. What DAC would you suggest to keep everything around $1000?
Using the S9C Pro as the DAC paired with the S17 Pro is an awesome stack. My list of preferred DAC under $400 is pretty limited to be honest. Also, I don't have a lot of standlalone DAC in that price range that I have reviewed. A few budget DAC that I suggest: Aune X1s GT Fiio K11 JDS Labs Atom Plus But honestly it would benefit to have balanced DAC output into the S17 Pro. Fiio K9 Pro Aune S9C Pro
iFi Pro iCan is 3x the price, not a fair comparison and I've not heard it since I reviewed. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1XmYMWqixpg.htmlsi=KuG2C0qXOcrZYoeH Singxwr SA-1 has less power is. sterile, colder, boring, lacks dynamics and naturalism in comparison. I've not heard the Schiit Jotenheim 2. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing.
Always appreciate your reviews - thanks! ..Any experience using it as a preamp? Do soundstage width/depth, resolution and tone/timbre carry over to preamp duties?
How is the S17 synergy with the Mytek Liberty DAC II soundwise compared with the cheaper ones you´ve testet?? Any sound differences between the XLR and SE HP outputs except power output? Your reviews are much too short😁
Dave - does the S17 Pro pick up audible EMI from its single ended RCA input from a DAC that is connected to a PC/laptop? This was the issue and deal-braaker in returning the Cayin iHA6.
You've done a really good review. I was wondering if the s17pro could be stacked with the aune s9c to use it mainly as a dac and not use the integrated amplifier ?

Hi Dave, did you hear Topping A70 Pro and how does it compare to S17 Pro in terms of powers, punch, details? If you will review A70 Pro could you put few words comparison to S17 Pro. Thanks and good job with channel.
I no longer have the GS-X Mini as I sold it to purchase the Mytek HPA. If memory serves me correctly, the GS-X Mini is a little colder and more analytical, has better details and resolution. Keep in mind that I couldn't do a side-by-side comparison.
Hi Dave. Thanks for the insight. What level of headphones do you need to get the best from this and the SC9? Would these offer any benefit to something like the Edition XS, 660s2, or others at that price, compared to something like a Zen DAC V2? Or would the money be better invested in a headphone in the region of 800-1000 $US? Is even that good enough? Thanks.
Another great review!!! I am definitely interested! I have a quick question though.. -Do you think I could buy 2 and use as Monoblocks to power insane loads using the rear outputs??
What about the combo with the S9c pro dac? How they pair? .Also is the SC1 clock to pair with them.. i think these 3 and a DDC with a 10MHZ clock input also would be the end game
@YTjuanchicod The Mytek HPA isn't lean, it's neutral and natural with an analytical presentation. If you want a slightly less analytical presentation with good imaging the HeadAmp GA-X Mini is a solid option.
There is no switch to activate, hp and pre run simultaneously. You select your input and plug your RCA output into your amp and then adjust the variable volume.
6:59 as a newbie, i'm curious what amp you need to drive your beyerdynamic to its potential. From the impression im getting from your review, 7500 mw of power is a lot, and yet it's still struggling to drive one of your headphones 😳
There's a lot more than just pure power that is needed to drive a headphone accurate. The current and voltage plays a big part as well. I believe in synergy of the amps and the DAC with the headphones as some just work and others don't. The amp I have that works well with my Byer DT880 600ohm is the Mytek Liberty THX HPA.
@TheHonestAudiophile ah, I see, i thought power was the most important part of determining if it can drive headphones. Is there a way to tell if the current and voltage is compatible with your headphone? I was also wondering if there was a way to tell if sensitive iems won't hiss. I thought the more power it had, the less likely iems would hiss, and so I was surprised that you said your iems were hissing on it.
@TheHonestAudiophile ah, the strange thing is, Multiverse Mentor and Thieaudio Prestige LTD both share the same 22 ohm impedance, but Mentor is known for hissing on a lot of devices
@@TheHonestAudiophile You are extremely transparent about your way of reviewing :) I asked you this question because the aune s9c pro arrived yesterday and honestly, apart from the excellent timbre of the voices, from the point of view of the imaging, soundstage and the recovery of details My nx4 topping that I've had for 2 years now seems better, which seems absurd to me but that's what I feel. In your opinion, could anything change after a week if i re-run it 8 hours a day or is it a waste of time?
@@TheHonestAudiophile I'm mainly using one of the Sennheiser HD490 Pros, which I've had for a week, and I've also tried with the HD600s. It's very strange right?
