Hey Marius, how did the renovation go? I am curious about the update! Was super bummed about the removal of the 1961 series from arendal and too slow to get another pair of bookshelves. I am super happy with the ones I have, which work as my rear surrounds. They can easily be used as fronts with a decent subwoofer.
Apologies for the long delay, I just wasn't expecting things to take so long. It was really sad to see that 1961 are being discontinued as I find them amazing value for money and size. I'm really glad to hear that you are enjoying your speakers
4700H manual update. Supports Auro, DTS and Atmos in side height configuration (mine are pointed to the listener...not perfect, but it sounds great), and the denon shows this during layout and when hitting the info button during movie play. 3:40 mine also has a black background. Ill try the movie setting. thanks! ***Edit just read the upgrade guide. I believe only front heights works in this mode. Very confusing Denon. Therefore front/rear height it is.
It can a bit frustrating and Denon really didn't make things clear. It appears on the newer receivers they are relaxing the rules a bit for both formats which might things simpler in the future.
Sir do all denon has the same setting menu? What model do you have? I have denon 3800h but i can`t see those setting.hoping for immediate respond.thank you
Hi, no not all Denon receiver's have the same menu. On the _800H series Denon updated the user interface. Sadly I have not used the new interface, you are going to bed to read their manual to find those settings.
Hi ,I need your valuable suggestion on my Denon 4700H amplifier.I would like to update my Denon 4700H as i heard that there are some new features available in the updation.My query is 1)Is it safe to do firmware updation 2)If in case the power went off in between the updation.Will it wont work again 3)what precaution i must take if in case i am doing it.
Hi, firmware updates are a normal process and it's safe to do, they are definitely useful as they do often fix many issues and add me features and improve the stability. Most don't need more than 10 minutes to complete so they are fairly quick. As for losing power per during upgrade I'm not really sure I've never seen that happen. But it's definitely normal thing to do and I would suggest to keep your firmware up to date
Sadly there isn't much at the moment but they seems to be signing new deals and doing even live streaming of TV in Japan through Auro3D. For me what's currently the best is the upmixing which works really well on any source content
Excellent vid. Refreshing, clear and to the point. Is this upmixer option available on the Marantz SR6015? I am now clear on the placement of the rear height speakers, which are to be directly above the rear surrounds in the corners.
@@mariusm5187 It is the Marantz SR8015 11 channel AVR. I have a large room, with hiigh ceilings and could easily mount 6 height speakers. Since my couch is against the wall and I cannot do 7.1 (unfortunately), it would be great to utilize those 11 channels, but on the ceiling. Front wides are another option, but they are underutillized in most mixes. Thanks!
There's really not that much to even bother. Just setup your layout to Dolby Atmos/DTS: X standards and if you run across the occasional Auro3D only release, any surround processor with Auro3D support will remap to the Atmos layout.

You're welcome. That's a good question, I guess best option would be for someone who's got the disks to upload a copy of some demos for people to try.

Why did you put the front speakers on pre-outs? Your X4700H should handle those without any problems, so there would be need need for a separate amplifiers ideally? You just happened to have a separate amplifier, or you're playing really loud?
Yes technically X4700 has enough power to run all 9 speakers but it runs really hot just doing 4. I had a really good deal on the power amp and couldn't pass it up, so the amp is powering the 5 floor level speakers and the receiver is running the 4 height speakers. After a movie the receiver feels as if it's on fire while the power amp doesn't even feel warm.
Hi.. Need your valuable suggestion. Im using denon 4700h amp auro 3d.My room size is 20*13*9.My lcr is klipsch and surrounds and atmos are qaccoustic.i would like to change it to either fully klipsch or fully q accoustic.What will you suggest?. Which one will be better for watching movies especially im fond of surround sounds
In your case I would go with Klipsch because they have more options to pick from and a wider range of speakers for all kinds of requirements. When creating a good setup you need to have options that will fit your needs best and from my point of view Q Acoustics is a bit too limited

@@mariusm5187 Thanks Marius for the deference of the measurements. I put a few simple comments. Left-AuOff + Sub On Left-AuOn + Sub On Notice that Audyssey at 2.5k and 5.5-7k is applying a positive gain you don't need your speakers, keep that in mind for future testing to do. I advise you to try putting a curtain on 2k and that Audyssey is off from 2k about 20 k I really like it with SubOn, I imagine it will be from the minidsp Of the RT60 (Topt), hopefully over time you can put some treatment adapted to your aesthetics of the furniture and can go from 400-500 hz down vs 500 to 10k. The low frequency waterfall drops when EQ is applied. Center, AuOn applies another EQ between 4 and 8K that it does not need and in 2k it has 2 dB to spare Too bad Audyssey is not customizable to the taste and needs of each room-person. A recommendation in case you do not do it, when measuring put the microphone 30-40 cm away from the backrest of the sofa and thus avoid their reflections. Greetings
Thanks for the comments 😊 there is still tuning that I want to do and some minor adjustments but yes I will be adding a curtain to Audyssey. I agree with you about Audyssey and it would be awesome to have Dirac but receivers that have a hard to come by or cost way too much. Also my setup will be changing a bit since I will be getting a new sofa, so the subs will be moving and so will the listening position
@@mariusm5187 They were just a few comments, since in its day I had a Denon X4000 to test Auyssey XT32 and a month I sold it. At that time Audyssey did not have the app and Audyssey applied an equalization from 5-6 khz that my speakers did not need. After checking with the Umik micro, I decided to sell it. I use a source computer and I equalize manually with equalizer APO (it is very powerful). I use REW's RTA and manually do the filters. As of today Dirac is much more powerful than the Audyssey XT32 + app, but as I have read in a Sound United Training video, they are working on making Audyssey more powerful. If you change your sofa, I recommend that the upholstery be made of porous fabric and not leather, you are interested in lowering the RT from 400-500 Hz down and another test that I would do would be to put some porous absorption panels in the first reflections of the side walls and rear wall. Those panels can be commercial or made by you if he likes bricolage. If your wife doesn't like to see them all the time, she can have them removable. Commercials with the maximum possible thickness, type GIK Monster bass trap, although with the price of one you can make 4 or 5 of 20 cm or more thick with Knauf TP116 wool.

I have a Denon AVR-X3700H with Klipsch reference speakers R-625FA, R-41M, R-52C,Klipsch R-12SW subs (2), pair of in ceiling speakers, and pair of SVS Prime Elevation for rear speakers, also OSD Audio (Nero XA5180 Amp.) I'm trying to set my system to Auro 3D setup, watching your video, but when I get to the step of (Audio/Surround Parameter) I see the other settings, Cinema EQ, Low Frequency Effects, but not the Auro-Matic 3D Preset, or Auro-matic 3D Strength??? do i need to add another pair of speakers to get to that setting or what is it??
Hi Greg, thank you for the kind words. Sadly in your case the issue is your receiver. The Auro 3D is only included with Denon 4xxx series receivers and up. So to have Auro 3D you would need to get a version up from what you have now
The ceiling is around 2.5m/8ft and I find there is enough separation between the height and bed level. When watching movies with really good height tracks you can tell when things are above you and even where above you they are.
I am going to do an Auro setup however my front configuration is 12' away from the listening position. I fall below the angle height requirement. Which is the best compromise, tilting the upper front heights or bring them closer than the ear height fronts?
By how much do you fall short? I would pick the option that is the easiest and will not look too odd in your room. Auro3D is quite flexible in that regard and you don't have to hit the perfect 30 degrees of elevation to still have good reaults
Bad idea to put 11.1 layout when using 9.1. Audyssey will do a mess with the calibration. You can use your front pre out with 9.1 layout. Just connect the rca cables on your receiver to your amp ant that it's. It will transfer the power to your amp
It's ok as long as you turn off the rear back surrounds in the Speaker Config menu: i.imgur.com/k1NaYr8.jpeg otherwise yes I agree it would have caused issues and tried to mix/send audio to rear back surrounds that would not be there.
You could use in-ceiling and set them up and height speakers but I am not sure if the effect will be as good. If you have a newer denon they have two profiles that can be stored in the receiver which should make testing easier
Hi, as far as I am aware S760H does not support Auro3D as you would need 4 height speakers. That said Auro 3D now is supported with only 2 height speakers but I am not sure which new Denon receivers would have that.
Question for you Marius do you have laptop 💻 plugged into your DENON HDMI/AUXILIARY ? Because I’ve been wondering 🤔 if I have in the wrong HDMI socket? I’ve got mine plugged into MEDIA PLAYER DENON AVC-X4700H

Similar setup to me with the 4700 😄 Have you tried too middle and front height as the height setting? (As the speakers are kind of above you and going with the theory of 5.1 bed llayer being better than 7.1 when you’re very close to the rears). I was going to look at that for mine to see what formats it supports when in that mode as my back upper speakers are kind of to my sides too.
Yes, I have played with quite a few settings but the one that I have recommended in the video is the one that will support all of the layouts in one setup and I found it to be by far the best for everything and fully supporting Auro 3D
Interesting that you skip DTS:X in your explanation although you have a perfect setup for that -- DTS:X is using height speakers instead if ceiling speakers for their reference setup. For Atmos and Auro3D you have a compatible setup thanks to Denon, but it's far from perfect. Current Atmos mixes using primarily static speaker assignments right now and without ceiling speakers you'll miss part of the effect. Same goes for Auro3D, which actually requires a ceiling speaker to fully function. If you look at the reference guides from Dolby, they show the usage of height speakers, but only ever in combination with at least one pair of ceiling speakers directly overhead. I have the same setup and it works well, but just keep in mind that you should prefer DTS:X mixes where possible. For Atmos, you'll miss out on some parts which are statically assigned to ceiling speakers. Hopefully movies will use more object based sounds in the future. I hear of some people who assigned the rear heights which are like mine and you're directly above the head as rear ceiling speakers. They said it hugely increased the Atmos effect coming through them -- but I haven't tested it myself.
Since then I got to play a bit more with music and movies. And I do like DTS:X for movies that have been mixed well. However, for music at least for me it's Auro 3D, then DTS:X and last is Atmos upmixer. In many ways this will be down to personal preference and my aim was just to show people there are more options that they might be aware of :)
@@mariusm5187 I guess you're right with that, I only have the 3700, so no Auro -- but I don't listen to music anyway. I can only comment on movies. And for native contact as well as upmixing I prefer DTS:X, which might come from our setup with only height speakers. Sadly DTS:X is a rare sight, I have only seen it on disc for a few movies (Jurassic Park and Harry Potter for example). iTunes does sell Harry Potter, but without DTS:X and only 2D sound. If you can find some DTS:X content, definitely grab it!
I actually watched all UHD Harry Potter movies recently and enjoyed DTS:X, that said I also tried Auro3D upmix and found it had better use of heights for ambient sounds, but it wasn't a massive difference
The confusing thing about DTS: X is that they use the Height Speaker settings in the surround processor for the best rendering of the overhead layer, except that the angles of their Height speakers are within the same range as Dolby Atmos' Top Front and Top Rear speaker locations. They're actually supposed to be placed in the same general locations as with Dolby Atmos, not high up on the front and rear walls like Auro3D. The surround processor manufacturers should have made the Top setting work for both formats. If you use the Tops setting for DTS: X as it stands now, you get some bleed of the overhead speakers into the lower level surrounds.
Well funny enough Auro 3D actually got the patent for layered height speaker placement and that's why Dolby places theirs in the ceiling. I won't go into full detail but if you do some searching you can find the full details of this.
I have a 4700H and running 7 bed channels and 4 height channels. My LCR are powered by an external amp. How do I use the sub2 out for Auro voice of god? In my set up will it work? If so how is the speaker connected to the sub2 out?
Thanks. Yeah that is what I had thought. That would require me to move to 6700 H which is 1K additional cost. Unless I remove surround backs and use that instead. Not sure if that is worth it. I did do some testing and in some cases the Auro 3D was a lot better and in some cases Atmos. My on ceiling svs elevations are not too far off from what Auro would require.
@@Rayman-expertsoundpro I would say the rear surrounds would be a better option depending of your source. Most streaming services only have 5.1 and not 7.1 tracks. An additional 1000 wouldn't be worth it, so just save that money. For me I upmix games, music and old shows to Auro 3D so it's really worth it to me. I would say run more comparisons write down the results and see which one makes the most sense to you.
Thank you Marius. So if I did want to go the VOG route, I would use the surround back channel for it? Still not clear how to use the sub2 out connection to the VOG speaker. Seems like I would also need an amp that has a channel available. My BasX 3 is already being used for LCR. Am I thinking this right?
You would need to lose the rear surrounds and only have 5 speakers as the bottom layer. 4 height speakers and then plug the sub2 output into a power amplifier which would power the VOG speaker.
What baffles me is that people are still taking the time to setup their immersive theaters to Auro3D standards when, for all intents and purposes, the format is pretty much defunct except for the very occasional music album tracks or obscure movie title, which can often be found in Dolby Atmos as well anyway. Dolby Atmos and DTS: X are the industry standards and their speaker layouts are actually quite similar to each other. If you run across the odd Auro3D only release, any surround processor worth its salt will map the overhead information to the Dolby Atmos and DTS: X configuration quite well. The same thing applies to Auro's AuroMatic upmixer as well.
@@mariusm5187 The problem with Auro3D is that the height locations just make the sound on the walls seem taller rather than creating a bubble of sound. The one mono VOG channel that is sometimes utilized really lumps the sound overhead into a single point source. I've heard a number of demos and a good Dolby Atmos setup will blow Auro3D out of the water.
@@dan_hitchman007 personaly I found that does provide a sound bubble that feels more natural. I've listened to a few Atmos systems with ceiling mounted speakers and I just prefer my setup. Of course that might not be the case for everyone
@@mariusm5187 If you cannot place your overheads on the ceiling in the correct Atmos configuration (for 8 foot ceilings the left and right Top speaker stereo spread is between 4.5 and 5 feet apart with the 45 degree front and rear Dolby recommended angles and each speaker aimed toward the main listening area, as per professional Atmos theater designers), then they should be placed on the side walls up near the ceiling at that same 45 degree angle of separation, front and rear of the listening position. Otherwise, you may not have heard a good demo of Atmos. Also, check out "Dune" 2021 on 4k Blu-ray. The Atmos track is amazing.
