Record aurora chances, from relatively weak X class flares too. But when they stack up, four in a 24 hour window, it can get crazy!

Besides, there is a very deep (pun intended) geological reason why these awe-inspiring auroras appear where they do on earth. Which is directly related to why there's even life on this rock to witness the dancing veils of light. That might make for a good Hub video for a week when there's no mature volcanos spewing or earthquakes shaking.

Auroras out in WI "like crazy" tonight.....When I was 11-12 (1966-67)....my mother let me go out to a school next door and look at the auroras all summer...I thought it was a normal occurance....at least my grandkids will get to see them this summer.

Fun fact, in Québec, most of the large dams generating power are a thousand kilometers north of the population centers. This means that quite a massive network of high voltage lines is required to bring power to cities which makes it uniquely vulnerable to atmospheric and meteorological events. There's been multiple retrofits over the last few decades to upgrade the network and make it more resilient to disruptions.

Reporting in from Yellowstone. AMAZING! It built slow and then was there all at once.

Well, we did just have a huge (I heard 80,000ft) blast at Ruang Volcano last week. That was bigger than any man made emissions reaching the atmosphere. A 20,000 ft blast can sometimes reach the atmosphere, tells you how big Ruang was. ❤️

It was beautiful in Seattle 1am to 3am, seeing the patterns constantly changing, twirling around, all kinds of streaks across the sky, and the vertical movement was just amazing. So many patterns at the same time. The green colors were a bit washed out but the reds, purples, pinks were super vivid, just amazing night. Now just my neck hurts from looking up for so long LOL.

In NZ, You could actually see them as far north as Auckland or maybe a bit further north if you use a high resolution camera.

As Judy used to say, "It could happen!" ... we can hope and watch ... Northwest Florida just might see glimmers between 1am and 4am Central early morning Sat May 11 ...

Having an Aurora is the least of our concerns. Our magnetic field has weakened by 20% this storm should have done nothing at all. We're ate gping to see localized outages of credit card machines and other electronics.

Hawaii saw them! They were visible as far south as Guatemala and even the Galapagos. I saw them with the naked eye at my house in Las Vegas, regardless of light pollution. Huge red pillars. Was the most spectacular display ive ever seen.

I just witnessed the event on the 45th parallel. Not too shabby. A little bit of a rosey hue st first. Most of it was basically a "smokey" white display. Such a joy to witness!
