Many thanks! I was lost when I started reading this long poem, but your explanation and insight gave me an open door to walk in.

Ty for your content & summary- I am in the midst of writing my own “verse novel”.. altho I had no idea until just last week that such a novel existed or would have it’s own genre- BUT I have heard & read many times over the years, some of her sonnet 47 .. oh! how I love thee, let me count the ways.. etc., had no idea 💡I would be so entranced with her writing so fluidly & beautifully- like listening to music- ty for sharing- & keep on keepin on! You have a very lovely voice & seem also to have a very pleasant attitude also! So, you just keep doing your own thang, girly! 💯

This is an excellent video. For those who like Amanda Lovelace & Rupi Kaur, they should check out this poem & other works of Barrett Browning.

Am going most definitely going to read it. Will search for an old well used copy cause that will be just perfect, I feel it won’t be the same reading this from a crisp clean white printed page.

You'll touch that star, you think? I know I never touched it. This is worst: that babes grow, and lose the the hope of things above. A silver threepence sets them leaping high - but no more the stars! Mark that!

Hi there! I'm currently in a British Literature of the 19th Century class at my university and am cramming for a midterm tomorrow. We had to read some excerpts from Aurora Leigh (not the whole thing), and I really thought your summary/analysis did a really good job of just getting the "gist" of the work across (and also reminding of what I read a month ago XD). I don't know if you're familiar with John Green's Crash Course videos on RU-vid, but as far as I know, there isn't a specific channel that covers a lot of the not so well-known but still relevant works of literature! That would be really cool if you could start up something like that! My only other suggestions to you is to not be so timid about the literature in your videos! I know English major people are a rare breed, but I think it's awesome when people read the classics! You're awesome, keep doing what you're doing!

+Bryce Gawronski Thank you for your feedback and nice comments! I'm glad you got something from the video and I'm of course always interesting in improving. I'm really enjoying making videos, and I think I'm getting a little better and a little more confident all the time! And for someone just starting out, thoughtful comments like this are awesome and really exciting for me. Also, it sparked some ideas for my next Careless Classics video. Thanks for being all positive and stuff on the internet, that's pretty awesome.

How the hell do people read such big fat books?! I can't believe anyone can read a 300 page or longer book or novel and understand it and enjoy it and remember the story line to it. Enjoying the story line to many large novels is surely genius! I failed trying to read an abridged children's version of Black Beauty. I love your style Caroline, love, and there is an extract of Aurora Leigh about the English landscape that I love. Among my favourite poets are Thomas Shadwell, Colley Cibber, Nicholas Rowe, Thomas Warton ( The Younger ), William McGonagall, Alfred Austin, WH Auden and J Bronowski. I am NOT Brave but this is My Favourite Poem at the Moment The Brave The brave do never shun the light; Just are their thoughts and open are their tempers; Truly without disguise, they love and hate; Still are they found in the fair face of day, And heav'n are men are judges of their action. Nicholas Rowe ( 20 June, 1674 - 6 December, 1718 ) English Dramatist, Poet and Miscellaneous Writer. British Poet Laureate from 1715. A Poem By Mikey Pink Racing Car A pink racing car. A pink racing car. In my dreams I could go far In my beloved pink racing car. 2015

Thanks for watching the video and sharing this! In my own writing right now I'm focusing on poetry, so I'll definitely look up your favorite poets! You're also definitely not the only one who gets tired of the traditional novel form. If you're interested in reading some stuff that's a little weird/experimental or just some reading material you've never considered, I'd check out this reading list from David Shields (he's a writer who appreciates unexpected literature). There's good variety on it: davidshields.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/VeryPartialList.pdf

Hey ! First of all I really loved your video and thanks for encouraging me to read it even tho my native language is French. I have a question, I'm thinking about doing my almost 30 pages reserach paper on feminism in the english liteterature and I'm looking for a few books to base my work on, your video makes me think that Aurora Leigh would be a good choice, do you think taht the feminist dimension can easily be explored in this book ? And if so do you know if there's other books from the same period, classics, that I could study for this subject ? thanks for this video and have a nice day :)

+Sirine Arya Ameur Awesome, I hope you enjoy it! Aurora Leigh would definitely be a good choice for your paper. Elizabeth Barrett Browning as an author would be an interesting person to look at in her questioning of gender roles. The Victorian Era was a really interesting time for feminist literature, and I think reading up on the term "New Woman" could really help you find some cool Victorian writers. Here's a link that explains it: www.victorianweb.org/gender/diniejko1.html Also, I don't know if you're including non-fiction, but I wrote a paper once about Mary Kingsley, a Victorian travel writer, who was really awesome. She didn't align herself with the "New Woman" movement, but she did travel to relatively unexplored places on her own, which was crazy for the time period. Check out her book Travels in West Africa! At the very least, it's an interesting read!
