This is going to sound a little weird but I need to say it somewhere. This song made me realize that I want to live. All of her songs make me feel something inside, but this one really has solidified it for me and now I know what it is. I want to live, I want to be free, I want to let go of the stupid worries and fears the world has given me and just experience everything. I have been suicidal for a long time, and I still am, but I feel like this song made me realize there are things in life that are worth fighting for. And I want to try to keep fighting.

She’s not weird, she’s free, and to those who do not have freedom are definitely victims to thinking she’s crazy, or not normal.

I am a 40 year old heavy metal fan who hates pop music. My daughters came across this song while asking Alexa to play disney princess songs. Two listens in and I was sobbing like a baby. This is maybe the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.

One of the reasons I love this song, I hear people saying "oh, don't cry" thinking it's comforting, it's not it's just invalidating, at least it is to me, I don't want someone to tell me not to cry, to tell me not to express my emotions, I know what it's like to not be able to cry when I need to and it's horrible, being able to cry when I need to is such a refreshing feeling, don't keep your tears in if you need to cry then you can cry

May 10, 2019. I'm so stressed, I want to die. Before I left, I went on RU-vid to listen to a song before I died, and it happened to be The River. I heard the song, you know what, I cried, cried a lot when she said "You can cry" that was the biggest cry I ever cried, After crying, my soul was less miserable, it was like magic that I encountered before jumping into the river, so beautiful. And it was this song that introduced me to Aurora's music. Thank you Aurora, you saved my life, thank you for the song The River, I can't say it enough. Thank you...

There is something absolutely magical and ancient in this woman

The part in chorus when she says: Do you miss the sadness when it's gone? I can't say why, but it rly hits me everytime

This song helped me realize that some resentment I was holding in for so long was actually just sadness disguised. And as I listened to this, I cried it all out because I was so tired of having that weight on me, and it feels so good and so natural to just let it all go. Like going back to who I really am. I never was that resentment, I was always just a person with a shining heart that was hurt in the past, and who swallowed tears that turned into thorns. I'm not afraid to let the river run wild now, and to let my heart shine again with scars and all. Auroras songs have all helped me in extremely deep ways. I'll never be grateful enough for all that they've done for me.

What I get from the clip is that we're always ready (scissors in hand) to cut off/repress our tears/sadness because it's considered a form of weakness. She looks worn out, waiting for the next tears to come, scissors in hand. At some point she has an insight (nature inspired/water/river/cleansing) and throws scissors away. When next wave comes, she accepts it and goes through it. She's energised now, running, she feels something good is coming out of it... It feels natural! Finally, tears turn into beautiful roses, making her even more beautiful and unique being. Accept your tears, let this river run, cleansing yourself and preparing terrain for beautiful flowers to come.

Oh boy this song helped me come to terms with the miscarriage my wife and I suffered. I don’t know how but it just opened up a box of emotions I was keeping locked away. As a person, I always try to hide my sadness, depression and anxiety. Otherwise, I'd think people would judge me and see me as a weak human being. This song and music video literally touched me on a spiritual level. All of those feelings I try to hide, those are the things that make me human. I was absolutely frustrated when my teacher added extra classes without asking any opinions or suggestions after exam is over. When I say she added extra classes, she added an extra legit after we finish our exams. Everyone wants to go home but we can't and it makes me so so frustrated. The exam lasted for two weeks and i have been giving my all. She really pushed my limit and I had to cry. Maybe it doesn't sound so bad but to me, she made me feel so miserable, hopeless, she took away my freedom. I have been so strong for too long and I just, this song makes me so happy that there's someone like aurora I can reach out too

My gosh, I can relate to the message in this song for sure. When I was younger, my dad always made it clear that he thought admitting to pain, and especially emotional pain was a weakness. I was never able to convince him that it's ok to cry sometimes. This song is the perfect message for this, and it is beautiful too. Scene my childhood i have faced body issues,i was always the soft target in the friends group,at a point our groups meets were incomplete without making jokes of me.no matter what i do,or how ever i try to change my mind ,my body issues were blocking my path. Ive been listening to Aurora for a long time now. When I first saw this video and listened to this song, I cried. I knew exactly what the general message of the song was. Then I found out why she wrote it. I guess it was after she found out that over 70% of suicides are men. Having had suicidal thoughts myself, and a diagnosis of bi-polar I, I can't help but cry (in a good way) everytime I hear this. It's extremely healing for me. If youre feeling suicidal or have any mental illness, take comfort in knowing how much people DO care and want to help. Aurora, you are truly a gift to this world.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful souls on Earth. Aurora is truly a force of nature.

Well, when the Animal video was released, I had commented my point of view about it all - the song, the music video, Aurora's evolution and about the people who were complaining about her changings. As she said, the more she writes about the world she sees around her, the less innocent it gets. And it's so meaningful. "The River" is, of course, part of this journey, and I really want to talk about it. As most of us know, people are complaining about her loss of purity. And I had already talked about it. However, they also complained a lot about the loss of melancholy in her music, and this video seems to be about it, in my point of view. It's such a powerful song. And I feel like she is speaking directly to herself. I mean, her old "herself". The old Aurora that people miss. The person that she used to be. Which doesn't make it less relatable to me, because it seems that she read my soul and put it in words. Well, one of the most important parts of the song is "You can cry, drinking your eyes". In other words, it is important to feel sadness, because it makes us alive. However, she asks herself, "Do you miss the sadness when it's gone?". Maybe because she did. But now, she doesn't praise the pain anymore, she only deeply feels it and let it go. Actually, she lets the river run wild. Her emotions are free, and changeable, even though they are infinite while they last. I could talk about all the song, but the line that made me realize what it is about (for me, of course, because there are lots of interpretations) was "Stitch your skin onto my skin and we won't be alone". Which means she is not leaving who she was; now, both of them are the same. They had evolved from each other, they are, together, a whole. And she won't forget who she is even though she's hurt. The music video is also very meaningful. She used to cut what was growing up on her - what was overflowing from her soul. Her real nature. Then we have the river. She is drowned in it, and I see this scene as a moment of self-knowing. She is deep on herself, she is the river, and she is deep in what she was and even what she will be. She is recognizing that all of this is who she is. And then, she lets the plants grow up in her. It is so beautiful. I find myself speechless. I wish I could talk for hours with her about everything I see in her Art, but for now, that's all.

Still, to this very day, this song is so inspiring. From that first “…you can cry…” in the first chorus, and “…LET the River run wild…”, gives me goose bumps. But, when Aurora releases the clippers…boy, it’s so powerful. My Mom and sisters-in-law recently passed away 4 months apart from one another. I really started to question life and sank into depression. Being an introvert I didn’t know how to release the pain of our family’s loss. I shut out everyone around me, thinking this will help me cope. Of course, it didn’t. Just compounded it all. I’ve always felt out of place. From growing up in school and into adulthood. That one day that I came across this amazing young woman singing at the 2015 NOBEL PEACE show doing a song I had never heard before, RUNAWAY….I was in utter surprise!!i couldn’t watch the video enough times. It was the freedom she expressed that, some how, made me feel free. And, OF COURSE…that ethereal voice. For the first time in years…and, even MORE, since my Mom and Kanani passed on, did I feel like my heart was floating…which, somehow, lightened the heaviness from the hurt of the moment After watching that video AT LEAST 50x straight 😁, I had to research more songs from her. In hopes that this wasn’t the only tune that was great. As all of the other WARRIORS and WEIRDOS know…Aurora does not do JUST ONE great song! I found another excellent tune, THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD. It was the VEVO a cappella version. And it almost got me. The masterclass lyrics, the harmonies (and I have to say…Aurora has had some very VERY good musicians and backing singers that really complimented her voice. From her early start before the first album was released…up to the present day with the beautiful, Silja, and solo, in the pocket on the drums, Magnus. There from the beginning, Magnus is one person I’d love to hear stories of all the growth of Aurora, and her music. It must be pretty amazing to have watched it all unfold and be a part of it all thus far.) As beautifully haunting that song was when I first listened to it (and another 25-30x that eve), I still kept pushing down the tears and tried to not let it out. It was how we boys, my two brothers and I, were raised. No crying in that house. We’d get backhanded until we stopped. Do you know how hard that is to do? But, in all my years, I mastered the facade. Nobody knew what happened behind the mask. It wasn’t until I happened to view another Aurora vid/song, “The River”, that l learned that letting my emotions flow out in these times I was experiencing WILL lighten the heaviness in my heart and, only then, can the true healing process begin. Man, I had tears flowing I didn’t realize I had stored, locked up from years past. The more I kept digging through RU-vid for anything Aurora (songs, interviews, documentaries, etc), the more and more I learned just how special this young wahine is and, just how much we are blessed to have her presence during these times we’re all experiencing. Her interviews, imho, are sooooo fascinating. She is brilliantly witty, impeccable and sense of humor that is quick as a whip…. And yet, the common thread connecting every single one of her interviews is her genuine, unabashed personality sprinkled throughout with warm-hearted tenderness. Her speaking voice is has never fit anyone better than Aurora herself. It’s a perfect tone. Whenever I hear her speak, my heart and mind feels so calm and WANT to hear her message. I hope all that made some kind of sense😁🎼 I’ve never felt more thankful for an artist and their gift of song. I have so much Aloha for Aurora for helping me heal through her music and for just being herself. Its been such an inspiring little journey with her so far. I hope one day I’ll be able to see her in concert and possibly meet her to personally thank her. I don’t think she’ll be coming out to Hawai’i, sadly…so, I’ll have to plan and save up to hopefully catch her in the states. Bucket list. 🎼🎵🎶❤️🤙🏾❤️🤘🏾

Whenever i listen to a new song of Aurora I always do it three consecutive times, the first one to drink in the music, to have a taste of it and to get surprises, the second one to listen carefully to the lyrics (i always look for them since i'm not fluent in english) and the third time to enjoy it altogether, the music, the lyrics, the feelings.
