Truly, Australia is one of the smaller music scenes in the World, but the talent that has evolved here for decades is phenomenal. Today, RU-vid can bypass all those record company execs that take a breakout inspirational act and try to mould it into something else to make quick $$$ without nurturing the career of those talented people. RU-vid can take the World into a new, to them, music scene.
As an Australian muso who grew up being awe inspired by the stars I saw at my local inner city pubs of Sydney in the late eighties (the tail end of the glory days), I say thanks heaps for your interest. Above all, I love how you guys just get it- what special stuff we had, even if record executives in the USA and UK didn't at the time.
I first saw Midnight Oil as a surprise guest appearance at The Bridge Hotel, Rozelle, Sydney in 1987. In front of two hundred odd beer swigging good time lads and lasses. I also saw Stevie Wright of EasyBeats and Evie parts 1,2,3 fame there a few times. As well as Weddings, Parties, Anything... And as a fan of our big sport here in New SouthWales , National Rugby League, I've now seen Barnsey live twice in Grand Final pre match entertainment... prior to seeing my beloved Parramatta Eels getting slaughtered. 😞 The first time he came down into the stadium on an Australian Army Helicopter and jumped off, microphone in hand, and sang Khe Sanh. You simply don't get more Australian than that. The last time was this year singing alongside Mr Teskey himself.
Only recently found the Teskey Bros at the Mushroom Live 50yr Concert. I am so crazy for their music. You boys need to get a copy of the Mushroom 50 concert and see Barnsey live and sounding as good as he did 40 years ago. And loads of new acts.
I did wonder if the Teskey Brothers would show up at some point, so glad they did. Love them so much, great Sunday morning vibe for me, chill out, make coffee, contemplate what to do with the day. ❤
You say 'bloody brilliant' and I say 'about bloody time' as I've been requesting The Teskey Brothers all along! 'Hold Me' was the final song of their concert and though it is a bit repetitive, I love this video for the audience participation. The group do a fabulous a capella version of this song, too. 'Pain And Misery' was videoed at their studio just outside of Melbourne in beautiful, bushy Warrandyte. I believe Sam Teskey got the tape machine in England. The song was engineered mainly by him. The band consists of the four guys and there is a fluid group of backing singers and musicians at times. There are other videos of them on You Tube. They travel overseas to do concerts, too. If you want to react to a FEMALE singer with a similar vocal capacity to John Farnham then check out Aussie Vanessa Amorosi, singing 'Have A Look,' LIVE. Vanessa has lived and worked in the USA. A fantastic group is, 'The Black Sorrows', singing, 'Never Let Me Go', LIVE with some film spliced in. The Bull sisters in this group always take you to church! They all have more videos on You Tube. Looking excitedly forward to the rest of the week!!!
They are simply a fresh breathe of air in the music industry where it had been lost for so long, soul pure and simple never dies. A great band loved here so very much, Ty guys for showing them too your world. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘🎶🎶❤❤
Such great old-school stuff in there. The guitar work on Pain And Misery is a fantastic homage to old soul ballad guitar licks, but every now and then with just a hint of a modern twist on it. Super tastefully done, and I believe the greats would completely approve.
Just love the Teskey Brothers! To really get the Otis Cocker sound, you’d have to listen to Rain…the Colour Studios recording. The brass in that song is wonderful too. You’d love it.
Thanks for introducing me to The Teskey Brothers guys. I'm an Aussie and can't believe I haven't heard these guys before. Sometimes good music just slips under the radar. Again, many thanks.
These Australian Week's are just touching the tip of the iceberg of great Australian music. So many great musicians not seen here yet. You know a nation's music vein runs deep and wide when performers of the quality of The Easybeats, Marcia Hines, The Seekers, Mental As Anything, and so many more have not appeared in the playlists yet.
So pleased to see The Teskey Brothers here. Their video release of 'Hold Me' is so good too. Vanessa Amorosi is a special talent also....'Have a Look'. Top of the Pops.
Aaah a bit more modern stuff, lol. Love these guys. I saw them live in January they re wonderful live. Josh has a nice voice doesn’t he. All excellent musicians. They hale from Warrandyte, not so far from me in Melbourne. Ps, they are lovely to sing along with, so good.
Somehow, somewhere, I happened to hear The Teskey Brothers. Maybe on TV, but the very next day, I was out searching for that Album and, I found it. Thanks for showing that. Would love to see them live.
Chris - great choice for a starting track/s for Oz week 4. I'm very excited about what artists you'll be introducing the boys to this week. Nice to see some contemporary stars sharing the channel with the old pub rock dogs. Enjoy the week gents - don't be afraid to throw in a few more double bungers.
@@TheThamesmen it's alright gentlemen. The comment is somewhat tongue in cheek. The Kransky Sisters are a musical comedy act, not your typical content. They are worth personal perusal perhaps.
So Aussie band #5 that needs to be on my playlists in equal share to my current faves has emerged. Hold me is so simple, but so powerful. Love how they have faith in the singing and the drumming with a bit of organ thrown in. Going out into the crowd after the heavy participation was pretty amazing too! Pain & Misery (the studio version nonetheless!) is as good! If you love Otis Redding you NEED to see St. Paul & the Broken Bones. The lead singer is an odd rebirth of Otis Redding. I seriously need a St. Paul & Teskey Brothers playlist for when I want to rock out to60s era soul sounds from modern bands.
If you want to hear a different side of his voice check out Jimmy Barnes and Josh Teskey singing Do You Love Me. It is an awesome cover of a great song.
Notable from the various Aussie weeks how blurred the line between band and crowd often is/was at Australian concerts. As you said in another reaction, no too-cool-for-school reserve, and no free fire zone at the stage front. Lots of people having lots of fun. Pretty decent levels of musicality and musicianship across the many bands featured too.
Hi so great to see someone who gets the tape machine Sam was searching for that over driven sound and found it, the first official album is called half mile harvest as that is the length of the tape used to record the whole thing pain and misery was the first single from the album which unexpectedly got them noticed they had it pressed to a few hundred vinyl copies to keep it real to reel 😂 interestingly live at the forum was recorded to tape too you may notice on stage they all have two mics taped together one for front of house one for the tape machine out the back. Loved your reaction thanks. Ps no chance of Dad ever hurting those boys to much love ❤️ 🙏 PPS loved the opening Thames theme, reminds me of my youth I was brought up in Richmond upon Thames.
Great performance great choice. Another cover that will blow you away in the future check out Wilson Pickett and Duane Allman covering Hey Jude. Really enjoyed both tunes quick stroll through the past!!!
Pain and Misery is my favorite for sure - love it. love all their music but this track just hits different - Not sure how true but apparently they searched worldwide for the old tape machine to get the authentic sound
About the tape, they're also using old mics to mic up things like the brass. There was a 1950s Melbourne made ribbon mic for sale recently, same as what they use, very obscure. I so wanted to buy it because I collect such microphones.
Aww, the Teskeys ... great choice. As Chris said, The Teskey Brothers are staples at any worthy music festival in Australia. I heard tell that they appear so often at festivals that one punter saw them on the play list for the main stage and having seen them so often he thought he would check something else out. He decided on a cultural experience of watching a group of Mongolian Throat Singers. To this day he swears that a clean-shaven Josh Teskey wearing a nude color swimming cap was in the back providing throat singing harmonies to the other performers. He reckons Josh was just warming his vocal cords up for his show on the main stage a bit later. Ok, ok, ok. This story might not be totally true ... but The Teskeys do have a loyal and well-deserved following here in Oz. I have never seen them live, but I am looking forward to having our two universes align, and for Covid to p**s off properly so that I can catch them at a live show. Alex and George, this is a great opening. Chris, thank you for putting this week together. I hope The Thamesmen are paying you well out of their sponsorship revenue, or at least in kind with curries. Looking forward to the rest of Aussie Week.
They were shooting a music clip in my country town the other year. I asked what they were doing at the old bank. The drummer, I think, replied with their band name. I replied: What, the Testie Brothers? He replied, no... well we know what he replied. Turns out I had seen them on posters years ago at the St Andrews pub.
Was hanging out for the pony to walk across your name banner. A guess the Captain "Chris" Caveman would have to be suffice this week. They have also done a great cover of the INXS song "Never Tear Us Apart".
I'm always excited when I see a reaction to the Teskey Brothers. I always feel some connection to these guys even though it's only geographic. They are from a neighboring outer northern suburb of Melbourne (Warrandyte). Love to see a local band from the pub scene doing well. Thanks Chris for suggesting and Alex and George for reacting. You guys never disappoint - always entertaining. I have a bit of a love/yawn relationship with this live version of Hold Me. I love it for the audience participation and how often do you see the band in the audience with the singer on someone's shoulders!! The yawn is as a music track without the video it goes on and on and is repetitive. I like their official version shot in Warrandyte better (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qHGrYll3O6Y.html). Also recommend "Crying Shame" (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g9YKRrnBt4A.html) - live performance touring in the US. And finally the Colors studio performance of "Rain" (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IhgxZ8tmBxU.html).
I'm going just throw this out here, but i think your Chris might not be a big hairy Aussie, but the famously ripped Chris Hemsworth, a renowned Teskey Brothers fan. Just saying 🤣🤣
Vanessa Amorosi is a brilliant female Australian artist you should react to. "Absolutely Everybody" was one of her massive early hits, this live charity concert in 2019 would be one of my favourite performances just because it shows her personality well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K9jT3AfFaP8.html
Have been loving your Aussie weeks. I reckon a great segment to do would be comedians who are great singers. Here are two Aussies to get you started. Tripod and Eddie Perfect singing a Paul Kelly song, and then The Doug Anthony All Stars singing Grapevine. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aJ2Okj9dCp0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5brqK2xIIns.html
I am going to get poleaxed for this, and I am a Victorian and from the same state as them but as talented as they are they dont do it for me. I have listened to this stuff all my life as my Dad played Sam Cooke, Aretha, Nina Simone etc all the time but there is something lacking for me with them. Dont know what it is.Second track way better than the first. Let loose the haters, I got big shoulders and can handle it. LMAO
@@TheThamesmen Not as in hob nail boots mate but the little mainland state in the south east of the fine land that is Australia., the home of Men at Work and AFL Football.
I do like the Teskey Brothers, but I'd much rather watch The Kransky Sisters. Sorry Bros. but those ladies can really wail. (Yes Thamesmen, they are a real group, and they are very talented singers, musicians, and all-round performers. From Esk, in Queensland. Esk. Queensland).
The Teskey Brothers make me cringe and my skin crawl, due to their plagiarism. It's all so derivative. They found a very popular genre and used it as a vehicle for their own 'popularity' If I want to hear this style of music, I'll get out my records and CDs of the Original Artists. Makes me very proud of my high standards, not just in music, but in everything.
