It's very Capetonian. It was quite popular in the early 90's amongst the teens but it became a lame word and dissapeared for a while. It has, however, made a come back.
I wish they added all the slangs the majority of South Africans are popular with, or at least should have titled the video with "Aussies Guess White South African Slang".
Could u imagine immigrating to another country as a south African and saying voetsek in public and another South African reacts. It'd be the most joy we've ever had hearing that word in our life.
My guy, Afrikaans words are used as slang by the other languages in South Africa Even in its neighbouring countries such asLesotho and Eswatini Phola😹😹😹

This was hilarious. As an aussie that moved to south africa learning this slang was so dificult. Nowadays i pretty much speak 50% afrikaans throughout the day. Especially ‘sek. Too often tbh.

It’s only Afrikaans slang or slang from only one province. South Africa has more than 11 official languages and nine provinces. I think you should have used slang that all South Africans use. Most of these words weren’t even slang.
Also many people think the city of Johannesburg burg is pronounced like yo-hanis-burg mean while it is pronounced like how you see it like jo- hanis-burg

Howzit? Slang for "How is it?" , meaning how is life. First recorded in the late 70s and 80s. In Afrikaans pop culture its referred to as "Hoesit". Voetsek comes from Dutch "Voort se ek". which means "Move forward I say!" but referring to hasting cattle, horses or a donkey pulling a cart.
