in the 70s i used to help a man who did welding work on vehicles , the 1100 hundreds often turned up the main problem rot on sub frame mountings they would go for mot and the sub frame would be detached. i spent many hours looking for any fires starting in side as he welded bellow . then would brush the weldes with underseal while still hot we used better metal than they used to be built withand allot of the cars managed more years . the other fault was the battery connectors with the little screw good look simon it will be a good car when finished

I really ought to put it all in my video description, I've got a thread about it all and my progress here: autoshite.com/topic/32171-the-austin-2dr-1100-story-part-iv-welding-engineclutch-work/

Under the seat is all fine. However on the outside along that whole subframe mount area is going to need a fair chunk of fresh steel putting in! Main thread on it is here: autoshite.com/topic/32171-the-austin-2dr-1100-story-part-iv-welding-engineclutch-work :)

Progress has come to a hold for a bit as I'm fiddling with my BGT and trying to get that working reliably. So can at least get one of my classics running over the summer period! Currently the 1100 rear subframe mounts at the front are done and just need to do the rear subframe rear mounts. Then just finish off the rest of the bodywork (weld arches and misc other small stuff) and then put the car all back together again! See my Autoshite thread for more where I'm roughly at. :)

Simon Chambers checked out the thread and I’m about halfway through. Amazing work so far. Mine is getting a little crusty on the offside arches (nearside has no rust at all). I’ll probably just bodge it with filler until I gain some welding experience.
