This is a great project! Aerodynamics of the 20s/30s seem heavily influenced by boat design and hydrodynamics. The boat tail on my MG M-type project is shaped very similarly to a boat hull from the factory! Also front ends were designed to reduce frontal area as much as possible. If you can channel all that (and it looks as though you have) you’ll end up with a stunning looking car that’ll be entirely period correct 👍

Well worth spending the money on good tyres that you like. They definitely aren't cheap these days though! I also had that interesting problem with the back edge of the firewall where the bonnet rests on my Riley. It's a changing angle all along it so the bonnet will sit flat. Mine is plywood though so it was easier to sand it to the correct angle before covering it in aluminium.

Very cool. Love the talk through ideas and problem solving. Are you using that engine?

@@Metal_shaper_tom Ah i now see its a Relient engine. Was thinking hey, thats not a A7 engine haha. Wish i had all the shaping tools. Will get there. Love the shirts. Keep at it

I had the same problem with the angle of the front of the scuttle when I built the trials car. You may find as I did that round tube will accommodate the angle and then just weld on a ledge for the bonnet to sit on.

I’m wondering if it would be nicer to have a fully enclosed bottom, rather than have the bits hanging off the bottom. That might be a more elegant solution for the tail.
@Metal_shaper_tom
@Metal_shaper_tom 7 месяцев назад
Hi the boat tail will be fully enclosed. It stops at the rear axle. The bits I’m on about in the video are the inner support structure
@T3glider
@T3glider 7 месяцев назад
@@Metal_shaper_tomYou misunderstood. I am suggesting that the body can extend below the rear axle so that the axle is enclosed. Smooth bottom similar to F1 cars from the 30’s. Even my Rochdale Olympic has its rear solid axle enclosed within the body! Aerodynamics, style and rigidity for the boat tail!

@@T3glider interesting. I’ll look at a few examples. The way I’m approaching it is exactly the Same as the 2 amilcar c6 are constructed and that’s what I’ve been referencing off. With them they have the separate under trey that look’s really nice

Love the work will you mod the engine and brakes Thank you for the video its interesting.

Hi David , no brake modifications but that’s not to say something may change further down the line. A chap who I work with is looking to add a small supercharger to it, it’ll probably be quick enough without.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the project will progress. It looks as though the carburettor will be quite high in relation to the bonnet height: am I not seeing it correctly, or will you have a bulge in the bonnet ? Best wishes.

@Metal_shaper_tom 7 месяцев назад
Your correct 👍 I plan to have a nice tear shaped bulge in bonnet
