Welcome to part 7 of my special build!
My aim is to one day drive this up Prescott hill climb as it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.
In this episode I make the aluminium frame that will support my aluminium body design.
Thanks for watching 👨‍🏭

That framework looks awesome Tom! Don’t ever think that whatever you do is boring, just watching you shape metal the way that you do is fascinating. I look forward to the next episode whenever you’re ready.

Hand hint you may like to consider: I chucked the crank handle off my beadroller into the bin, and made a replacement out of an old ford Falcon steering wheel Ihad lying around. It negates that kinda jerky movement, especially if you're rolling a bead by yourself.

Yes I had thought about that but haven’t got round to sorting it out yet . I think it would be much better.

Fabulous project Tom. I love catching up with it. You underrate the "ordinary" stuff you do though; it probably seems boring to you, but the inexperienced could probablt learn a lot from you. Your channel amongst others inspired me to restore an old Defender. I've just finished the metalwork and getting into primer etc now.

As a former USAF crew chief that has spent time in jolly old England I can sympathize with your weather complaints. But it could be worse if u lived in Minnesota in the winter like I do. It truly is hateful here sometimes and no we usually don't go out in the garage when it's like that either. Progress looks very nice and as usual high quality work. I really like the solid rivits as it looks period correct and kinda cool!

Loving the shape that's appearing. Can't wait to see the panels taking shape. That rear frame looks like it needs to be a larger radius than you've got there at the moment. Spring a flexible battern from the top, rear corner of the boat trail to the rear cockpit bulkhead then keep the length of that battern fixed and sweep it over the curve of the cockpit bulkhead and it'll show you the curvature you need on that frame if that makes sense?

Worth waiting for Tom. It's looking great. Those little reliant engines are nice - the gearboxes are particularly nice as I remember from my Bond Bug! I do wonder if you might want to put something a little more exotic in it in the future - some nice little DOHC Italian engine from the 70s would be nice!

I'm liking the look of the shape generally, but I think you have a point about the rear hoop: it looks as though the radius is a very small amount too tight and perhaps the hoop is slightly high, but that might look different if you change the radius of the corners. Is there any way that you could get a 3D computer simulation before committing yourself ? Best wishes.

That’s far to technical … once I start making the panel it’s all become clear and at worst it’s only a couple of hours to put right.

Awesome frame for the body, i am in the process of a Austin 10 special, wire frame done and want to build an aluminium frame like yours, could you tell me what sizes you have used for the aluminium angle please? Wall thickness etc.

25mm angle 2mm thick. Careful as it has a tendency to crack
