Just get rid of HOAs in the poor communities. Why would you help a poor person into a home with an HOA they cant afford. HOAs have too much power over the corrupt politicians that will not stop them.

Doesn't the HOA manage the upkeep of the exterior of the property? Who would do it without the HOA? The homeowner? Is that more affordable?

@@realfaux7333 poor people can't afford it. There is no need for the upkeep. There is no need to build stuff for the poor that requires upkeep.

@@realfaux7333 adding a layer of middle management does not make repairs cheaper. HOA's are a waste of space, except for sociopaths on a powertrip.

@@realfaux7333 Yes.. it is more affordable for the homeowner to do it themselves. No one spends 200-300 a month on exterior upkeep. HOA's are a license to steal.

The HOA fees have become a profitable business for the HOA associations.There should be a cap on HOA fees no more than $100 a month. The HOA no these fees are out of reach for most people you pay a mortgage on top of that $300 a month in HOA fees that’s ridiculous.

City should help cover HOA fees for the low-income recipients, since they're somewhat responsible for the situation. Wishful thinking, but would be fair. Otherwise, they're setting them up for failure. HOA fees will continue to increase plus likely special assessments on top of that. Material, labor, and insurance costs have skyrocketed in the past several years.

When looking at the 80% median income as criteria there is no allowance for an increase in taxes maintenance and utilities.

the purpose of the program is not to help people who qualify. it's to give government bureaucrats steady employment

Homeowners insurance, which is a major part of their HOA costs since it included the building exteriors, is becoming more unaffordable for all residents. Frequent hail storms and roofs that have limited lifespans with hail drive up costs and Texas' government is probably too cozy with the insurers.

Most homeowners in Austin struggle with affordability and the majority receive zero financial assistance. Rather than complain to the news, we tighten our belts and get second and third jobs or we move to more affordable areas. We certainly don’t get the opportunity to live in a wealthy area of Central Austin. My question to the homeowner is this: what makes you special or let’s say more deserving than homeowners in the same circumstance who don’t have the benefit of government assistance?

Low income earners never consider how much it actually costs to financially maintain a home. It's virtually impossible for them to afford it. You can't earn below what it takes to own, then cry you can't pay the bills.

Put laws on profit margins for all new developers in low and high income areas. It's the only real solution.
