@@macielynn7761 The first time a person picks up is yes, a choice. Unfortunately though, not everyone was raised in a good home like you and I. As an addiction counselor, I have been stunned by the amount of addicts whose mother and or father literally gave them hard drugs and or alcohol when they were a child. Many were addicted before their teens. There’s always exceptions to everything and for those in the category I’m talking about, it is absolutely NOT their fault.

Why? Addiction is a fact for many unfortunate souls. No one wakes up and decides to be an addict. They don’t get into the situation overnight nor can they get out of it overnight either.

I hope you never have to find out the hard way how wrong you are. Yes, the first time a person picks up is a choice. Thereafter, when a person is caught up in the grip of addiction, even when they realize they’re in over their head, by then their brain chemistry has changed drastically and causes them to do things they’d never dreamed of before. I speak from experience as well as from the degree in addiction I’ve earned. Thanks to the Almighty God, I was able to recover. Not all are as fortunate.
