It's interesting how there's no good look at Dr. Evil in this trailer. It's like they were saving the fact that Myers also plays the villain as a reveal for the theater. :D

Yep, that and the opening scene are supposed to lead you to believe that Dr. Evil is an intimidating threat, when in actuality, he's a bit of a doofus.

That was a good move, I can't remember if it was a big reveal when I first saw. I was a big Bond fan when I was a kid. They'd have marathons on TBS, so finding all the references was extremely fun.

It worked back when you could never watch these trailers on your own, only in theaters or on tv. You’d forget half of the trailer before you ended up seeing the movie.

Presumably, the film was shot in 1996, which means that pretty soon, the film will be as far removed from today, as Austin was removed from the 60s! I think it's safe to say, though, that things changed a hell of a lot more between 1967 and 1997, compared with 1997 til today. Had Austin been cryogenically frozen in 1997 and thawed out today, it wouldn't be that hard for him to adjust.

It's funny how they bothered to give us a rundown of the plot instead of just repeating "Shagadellic baby yeah!" over and over again. The best comedies of this era are the ones with plots. As long as a character becomes a cultural icon, there's no hope for it.
