Aboriginal people should be thankful that the British arrived. How would they have fared if the Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish, German or French had settled ? There are examples in history to show us. What if nobody came until the Japanese at the WW11; how well would that have gone? Moreover, there likely was displacement of earlier peoples by tribes of Australian Aboriginals(sic). With Western culture, as vectored by the British, taking root on the Australian continent, a considerable proportion of young Aborigines saw Western society as offering a ‘Get - out - of - Paleolithic - bubble - free’ card - and voted with their feet! As senior men in tribal leadership saw the young men and women adopt Westernization, they had, some more so than others, let the old culture fade into oblivion; likely taking secrets with them to the grave. Even if Australia Day itself was abolished or changed, January 26 will always be January 26. They will always condemn what happened in the past.... which can never be changed.... instead of embracing what we have now and making a difference now. The past, regretfully, must just be accepted.
