Am I trippin or is this genius, like if she just did a normal speech no one would have noticed and no one outside of Australia would have given a fuck. But she made it bad on purpose and now people are talking abt it
@@traplover6357 awareness of a cause is valuable. It has raised awareness of this fight internationally, and will also raise awareness to kids which will lead some kids to becoming more politically active, and potentially cementing her as a representative they may support when they’re old enough
Worth noting: in Aus our Liberal party is only liberal by name, they are our Conservative Party. Confused the shit out of me when I first started learning about American politics
i showed this speech to my mom and she said she understood about 30% of it. i also had to explain that chat is now a 4th person pronoun/referring to a collective, and she wants to use it at work this week when one of her patients is being crazy 🥰
atrioc come on man, you're all about not just reading headlines but didn't scroll to the first comment of the copper short guy: "You weren’t assigned and didn’t need to buy SPY to cover it. The outcome is that you’ll sell the SPY you bought and will make or lose the difference. You aren’t down $56k+" for somone who covers markets so much, this is a blunder of reporting big dog, step it up
Pretty sure the proposal would only prevent them on actual social media, not the internet or games entirely. Imo, bans have never worked, the only thing the government should be doing with kids and social media is regulation requiring the platforms to offer extensive and easy to use parental controls. Regulation that puts the onus on the platforms to help and enable parents to take control of what their kids are doing on social media.
the worst part about the speech was that her point was probably easier for me to understand as a brainrotted gen z than a normal speech probably would have
At first I was like what ??? But if you mean it’s easier to understand as opposed to standard legal and political conventions then I can understand what you’re saying
You shouldn't take pride in that. It indicates a limited vocabulary, which can make it more difficult for you to clearly express your thoughts to others
@@graystone2802 Yup, I was new to Politics and voting and I was voting Anthony Albanese and now; I regret my decision... Even if I vote for Pauline or Dutton, one of them gets elected, it's not gonna age well again... Not in another 40 years... Maybe if we have hope, we can close our borders and fix our economy back... And our land space...
@mhmmmhmm3554 But then our current Prime Minister is going rogue, and he needs to be sent to Federal Prison for treason for breaking constitutional rights for our people...
The combination of a woman in a hijab with an Australian accent dropping gen alpha slang is absolutely insane. It’s 3 things that exist in separate parts of my brain intersecting, and in a parliamentary session of all places.
Why does being christian, muslim, buddhist, atheist or any affiliated with any sort of religion fucking matters? Your statement sounds like a man from 1400s stating the state and the church should not be separated.
I'm an Aussie, and as much as I hate this, and Australian politics. I don't entirely disagree with the premise. I'm all for banning social media for kids, but I think the more important thing is banning moron parents from giving children phones at 6 months old.
The policy has nothing to do with kids. Thats just the title. Primary goal is getting adults to give gov ID to use the internet. Yes i am sure they are happying about removing the kids digital playground too, but its more about the total control than kids saftey.
14 is a CRAZY high age to ban social media for. I would propably be all for it if it was 6 years old or something like that. Definitely not more than 11. Even then, is it going to stop anybody when already the majority of kids (like 7 or under) is using their parents account/phone? And that is not even factoring in the fact you would have to give some kind of ID to the a) social media company b) the government just to use the internet
@@cozmo4694 nah 14 is pretty reasonable. anyone 13 and under is usually either a moron, annoying as fuck, or both. That being said, this law would still be awful cuz needing to give your ID to use social media would destroy any last remnants of privacy that are left
@@cozmo4694 The prefrontal cortex doesn't finish developing till 22, but most of the major development stops at 16, so arguably 14 is still a low age to ban social media for. Your brain is like plastic at 6 and even at 11, any sort of addictive behaviour or negative tendencies (i.e. low self-esteem, anxiety and so on) related to social media are so much worse at that age. I honestly get the whole ID thing is definitely not ideal, but many many studies have shown and are continuing to show that social media is an incredibly negative presence on cognitive development and function for the kids who grew up with devices and something needs to be done.
@@cozmo4694 I mean, techncially the age limit is already 13 due to a US law, so 14 really isn't much of a change. I'm more concerned about how they'll actually enforce it though - I really don't want my government ID attached to my anonymous social media accounts, where I could get weirdos stalking me across profiles, or data collectors using it to easily linking my info... Especially since kids will just change their DNS and use some dodgy Russian social media website instead, with even less safety measures than Instagram or TikTok, solving literally nothing. Other people have been talking about facial ID, totally oblivious to all the racial issues that'll bring up, with it declaring indigenous Australians as invalid non-human faces, or grown ass adult asian women as children, due to a lack of data.
There's no reason for a kid under 14 to be on social media. Hell, make it 16. "Instagram ruins girls' mental health", "exposing boys to OF bait destroys their future relationships" but what's really important is my Twitter feed would get 5x better overnight. fr though, the LETS GO GAMBLING dopamine slot machines are not something we should let kids have their brains wired for. It's already over for zoomers, maybe alpha can still be saved.
@@EA-ps4wc if that stuff starts, there will always be a competitor who wont enforce it. people see, and get everything on the internet for free if they really want to, you cant enforce something like that.
In Australia we have 3 levels of Government; Federal, State and Local. The first 2 are pretty self explanitory but local is more like your town and general area. Our 2 main political parties are Labour and Liberal. Anyway, as of last Saturday everyone had to vote for their whatever party would represent them locally. This happens once every 3 years and is a big event. The liberal party literally forgot to register around half their candidates to represent local areas. They forgot to register about a hundred candidates in total. Its unheard of before And its hilarious😂😂
The take about teens opinions on the internet is actually really interesting, didn't think about it that way. In the last 3-4 years I felt like the internet, youtube, content creators, gaming, basically any media became much worse and less interesting, but I guess the Media was created either by teens or for teens, and i'm not that demographic anymore. Its kinda funny looking back, as a teen I thought most of Media was aimed for young adults (25+), shows like Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones that I watched as a 14 year old, thought I was the outsider. Looking at what is produced now as a young adult I feel like i'm the outsider again, trying to find entertainment in something that is clearly not for me
probably bc youtube is the most popular media, along with tik tok and insta nowadays, while TV media is getting pushed aside. kids arguably reign these media forms and have the most user time and influence there, thats my guess whys media seems to be targeted at kids mostly nowadays.
the copper shorting story is so funny because the guy says bronze medals are 88% copper, so the copper market will be affected bc thats a high percentage, as if the PRODUCTION OF 3RD PLACE MEDALS FOR AN EVENT THAT HAPPENS EVERY 4 YEARS is at all a significant portion of the ENTIRE COPPER MARKET. this boy doesnt know how wires work. like maybe learn how wires work before you start shorting stocks
Those soy sauce fish are my favorite exclusive thing in food here in Australia. A lot of people put the soy sauce into a corner of the container and dip their sushi but the fish has so much fine control in squeezing the soy sauce out that I just pour it onto the sushi for each bite. Fine control of sauce amount, very based.
Correction: politics was always cringe. This is humorous cringe with a tinge of second hand embarrassment for most on lookers. Lucky for me I’ve been embarrassing myself my entire life so I can revel in watching whatever is happening…
My favorite part is how she keeps looking at the screen because she’s clearly like’ “OK what is this word? My brain can only process so much of this nonsense at once”
Crazy that she thinks this is persuading people who can vote that a ban isn't a good idea. "This is what my kid is talking, we need to ban this shit yesterday" is the take so many people are gonna have now because of this clip.
@@Jartran72 The language of the statement to me implies that she is against it. I don't see why you would speak to the population that can't vote to inform them of the ban if you weren't against it.

The thing is, it’s actually a fantastic idea. There’s actually no way gen z would be involved in politics without a speech like this. Gen z’s greatest power will be their power to vote, but they don’t know that yet. This speech is a way to help get them involved with their government. And it’s brilliant. Gen z won’t understand “ I’d like to address article 1.2.8 referencing the 6th section…..”
The power of voting for house and senate seats is actually something that’s really powerful. That’s why all the old people go to town hall meetings. That stuff can decide elections. But kids don’t go to town hall meetings. Yet…
The hilarious thing is shes making a great case for why kids shouldnt be online, while trying to use the Internet to manipulate kids into going against the bill. The whole things is comedy, and irony gold
honestly, the thought of a 13 year old and a 50 year old being presented to me in the same way is shocking. 50 year olds should no have that level of power
I can't understand what that senator is saying because they put more than 3 words at a time in the captions. Need like 1-2 words in a bigger mr beast font or i'm gone
as an australian young person i am so for the ban, I think its something to do with the scarring from seeing someone get decapitated on Instagram at 13 years old, but who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As an older australia, this is not about the kids. The gov never has and never will care about them. This is about removing freedom from the masses. The primary goal of this policy is to force adults to use gov ID to use the net.

Genuinely didn't think they were cringe, the words themselves can be, but they actually ran with it so well, if the objective was to get zoomers' attention, they DEFINETLY got that
we SHOULD ban social media for under 14s. we've already seen the damage done to Gen Z and they didn't live their entire lives with it. Gen A is so screwed if they have unlimited social media access.
Bro honestly, that speech was kinda genius. That'll get so many more eyes on it than it would otherwise get if it was just a normal speech. Especially from the younger generation who don't normally pay attention to political speeches but will see it from it getting shared around. That senator's playing 5d chess.
