The escalating stages of laughing: Haha, LOL, LMAO, ROFL IJBOL serves no functional purpose with the others existing. Gen Z just wants to feel special.
This the second time a Dutch word is turned into an acronym for something funny. Lol was already a word before it became LOL, and ijbol is also a dutch word (at least let's pronounce it the better way, "eye-bol" like in Dutch)
About that last point, it's very true that generally you should assume the strikers are the victims but still, if you're personally involved and/or interested please also read the actual demands from the union. This probably won't be happening in th US any time soon but in countries with strong unions they do sometimes strike for unreasonable things if they feel they can get away with it (eg: a few years ago the pilots were striking for Better pay in Belgium, even though it's already a high paying job and our airlines weren't making much money att)
I will not even for a second take anyone who says this seriously. Also what kind of identity crisis is that 27 year old going through. I'm 26 and i in no way felt like i grew up with "gen z culture", did he one day read that he was technically in gen z and decided that he had to include this as a part of his identity?
the issue with gen z is how fast technology advanced during our childhood. There's the gen z that grew up playing xbox live and watching drake and josh and then theres the gen z that grew up watching cocomelon on an ipad
We absolutely HAVE to address this slide towards effectively 10 year olds deciding what the status quo is. Seems like there's constantly a "THIS IS THE NEW THING" announcement and when you investigate it's literally just that kids are doing it en masse because they're copycats. Also, why the hell is so much advertising based around the random fucking shit kids happen to ignore when playing subway surfers? Why are brands thinking that *those* eyes are what matters??
One of the issues is it's completely useless, so I can't really see it spreading. Acronyms are useful because it's harder to type on text, hence it spread naturally. Emoji's spread quickly because it mimics a useful part of communication, facial and visual communication. Ijmol or whatever achieves absolutely nothing. Like there's no point. If the only thing it does is meet the generations quota for making a new term, it'll die out almost immediately.
