Australia's Worst Serial Killer

That Chapter

In the lonely Belanglo forest south of Sydney, Australia, gruesome discoveries were made. Again, and again, and again. There was a man who was using the highways as a hunting ground, searching for backpackers who would disappear into the bush of Australia. The search would go on for years, leading to Australia's worst.

There were two other young girls who had a very terrifying and narrow escape from Milat. They were picked up hitchhiking and he drove them into the forest. Somehow they managed to make a run for it into the trees. They hid from him for litetally hours as he continued to drive around into the dark with his headlights on searching for them. Finally he drove away, but they stayed hidden for at least another hour or more. Eventually they walked back to the road and flagged down another vehicle, still terrified he could have driven back again. Absolute miracle they made it out alive.

When I was a teenager I watched this horror movie called Wolf Creek. A group of backpackers in Australia are hunted down by a man in the outback. It was terrifying because of how brutal and relentless the killer was. The movie disturbed me so much I did research on it and learned it was inspired by Ivan Milat. He worked for some time on road crews (the RTA in Australia) and wherever he was working up and down NSW, people went missing. If you watch the Australian film clip of Soul Asylum's "Runaway Train", a number of the missing people are his victims. My ex thumbed all over Oz, worked lots of fruit farms and was very friendly. I am sure he would have been a victim. Hearing about Milat’s great nephew murdering someone, didn’t surprise me at all. My mother swears that she and her best friend were picked up by Ivan while hitch-hiking as teens in NSW in the late 70's. He asked lots of questions and once he figured out they were local girls he seemed in a hurry to drop them off. The encounter always freaked her out, despite being a well travelled hitch-hiker. I'm glad you're finally covering this story Mike, it really made such an impact here in Aus. There are definitely others out there in Belanglo, but who knows if they'll ever be found. Then he noticed some letters on the table and he realised that he was in the Milat's home. Safe to say the next 20 minutes of waiting went by reaaaally slowly. lol! Only a true monster would be willing to go to their grave without giving other families closure knowing they have killed their loved ones. Ivan Milat is truly one of the worst people who ever walked this Earth. If only the police had listened to Paul who knows how different this case could of been. Also - I always thought the tip given to police by Alex Milat was either to throw police off or it was actually given by Ivan using his brothers name. Alex could of possibly known about some of Ivan’s crimes and gave this tip knowing they would look into his family and it would lead to Ivan, he could of not wanted to directly implicate his brother out of fear or repercussion for himself from Ivan.

Jfc this family. Kudos to the brother who acknowledges Ivan is a serial killer. Nothing screams narcissistic psychopathy louder than the entire bunch insisting he had nothing to do with the the murders. With the 14 kids, and then the nephew also becoming a killer, I'd be curious to know what kind of shit went down in the family. There must be one hell of a toxic, destructive narrative and dynamics going on. Such tragedies for each of the victims, may they RIP.

I'm a big fan of this channel and have watched all his videos. I have to say, though, that as an Australian I'm a little disappointed at his description of us. I believe Ivan's brother who's the only family member to say he did it & Ivan was a great piece of 💩. Poor man lost his entire family for telling the truth. The sister-in-law had a long affair with him & was more in love with Ivan than her own husband. You can't believe a word she says because she's been caught covering for him in the past. And lastly, can we all take a moment to appreciate that mother who let Paul Onions in the vehicle even though her kids were with her. She didn't just save 1 person, how many more were saved because Paul was alive to testify & see Milat sent to prison for life.

My Mum was empaneled for jury selection on the Ivan Milat trial. There were many prospective jurors assembled that day. The Judge told them that during this trial they would be strongly confronted and that the trial was likely to run for a long time. He then told them that if they had any doubts whatsoever regarding their ability to participate they should say so and he would excuse and release them from their obligation. It is hard to fathom how a ‘person’ could be as cruel, brutal, depraved and unremorseful as the Milat creature. May his victims be blessed and rest peacefully. Small point, here Down Under the name is pronounced like “Mill Att’ rather than ‘Mill Ett’.

My estranged father had a 90 acre property that backed onto the Belangalow State Forest. My mother, sisters and I discussed whether he could have been the “Backpacker Murderer” for a hot minute. Ivan Milat was arrested quickly after but it remains a case that sends chills all over. Paul Onions was pivotal in getting him arrested, the woman who stopped to pick him up was incredibly brave. When he was transferred to a newly built maximum security jail the police shut the town down to get him through without incident. It’s a case all Australians are horrified by and I am sure I can speak for us all when I say we are glad this monstrous man has now died. His victims will be respectfully remembered forever. The police who worked this case did an extraordinary job of gathering evidence that made sure Milat was removed from society. True though, it is believed he killed many more people than have been found. May they Rest In Peace.

He would read all day by hanging a book over one of the bars on the roof of his cell and hold himself up in the air like a pull up position for hours. The screws were scared of him and we were too.
