Lived in NZ for 30 years and Aussie for 17 years. Both are amazing, both are worth the time, both offer so much and both close in so many ways. ANZACs hard.
As a Kiwi I think the helping the neighbors thing comes from our isolation and smallish population. Not just as Nation but for many New Zealanders for a long time, especially in rural areas if there was an emergency or problem, the only people you could rely on for help was your neighbor. It's probably like that in many isolated communities all over the world aswell.
Australia is just as isolated you could well argue more so than NZ depending where you live in Australia. Both countries you need to take a plane to visit another country, the US is shorter for NZ where Europe is shorter for Australia.
@@mfitz1991 That’s just because Australia’s a bigger economy. This mismatch is the same with Canadians living in the USA, Uruguayans living in Argentina or Brazil, or Austrians living In Germany. Even if (hypothetically) the Australian economy collapsed and the NZ economy took off and overtook it; that would still be the case. It’s not that one is better than the other, it’s just that Australia will always have more employment positions and career opportunities.
I have lived in both countries. New Zealand born and lived in Australia for 12 years. Both countries have their positives and negatives. Australia better for career and money and entertainment. New Zealand more a relaxed pace of life and in my opinion more accessible to nature and more beautiful scenery. It depends on what type of lifestyle you are looking for but both countries offer a good lifestyle.
Less things to do in nz, crime going up, same as aussie but they’re way of punishing the criminals is more to my liking. Nz is a bit too slow for me, when i lived in aus, it was normal for teens at the age of 13-14 to already be working part time, in nz, not so much. I love my culture and the people but something in this country has shifted in the way we socialise and live now.
Then kind of depends where you live in Australia. There is places much more chilled and isolated than NZ. And you think NZ has more beautiful scenery than an entire continent. LMAO Most of NZ is farms.
I think depending what you are wanting at each stage of your life and your own personal choice says which country is best. I love both countries for different reasons. . Born and bred in NZ. Not a fan of the heat in Aussie so it's the South Island for me.
I'm British & lived in Australia (Melbourne) for 12yrs, now I'm In New Zealand. There is no comparison .... Australia wins hands down & I'm making plans to return. Aussies are much easier to make friends with than Kiwi's but the one thing i've noticed above everything else in NZ is that they just don't share our humour, they are on a different wavelength which has contributed to my feelings of alienation here, In Australia I fitted right in, they just "Get It" and I made lots of friends in no time whatsoever. Of course that's just my experience, everyone is different.
Also British - definitely sounds like a you issue man, Australians and kiwis are very similar in humour, I've made lots of good friends during my time in both countries.
Really? Because you’re the first British person who’s ever told me that, and I’ve only ever heard the opposite. And furthermore; when I was in the UK it was noticed that Kiwis and Brits had the similar sense of deadpan and dry humour and got the same jokes and puns, while Australians missed them. Aussie humour’s fine, but it’s more like Irish humour, the larrikin style. I think the problem here might be you, not NZ humour.
Gotta disagree on food..Aus has so many cultures like greek, italian, middle eastern, european here..NZ is limited to pub food, Chinese and indian food (ofc im generalizing)
Also 46 % of country Australia is tropical and a large subtropical so we have o credible variety of fruits Climate also allows folk to travel forever in a car and caravan around a country approx the same size as 48 lower states of US but 95 % empty
Just got back from South Island for the 1st time, Kiwis may hate me for saying this, but there are times you forget your in another country, Aussies and Kiwis are very similar people.
1:00 Australia has been much, much more influenced by "expressive" cultures. In the very early days it was primarily the Irish, and later Italian, Greek, Maltese, and Eastern Europeans. So while Kiwis often view Aussies as brash or overconfident, Aussies can find Kiwis a little too reserved, and wonder if they'll ever let loose, and project some personality.
Christchurch is back to being good now. Can't keep those cantabs down lol and the cityscape has been redesigned to make it even more fun. I lived here in the 70s and it was crazy and back here now in my 60's (not partying obviously but my eyes are still good lol). But yeah I lived in Melbourne for a couple of years and you're right. Neverhteless Chch has regained it's top Kiwi spot imho.
love the videos ... years ago we used to have a marketing campaign called "Don't Leave Home Until You've Seen the Country" you really need to get out of wellington for a bit ... maybe even forget the nth island and try places like ... The Catlins, Milford Sounds, Haast Pass ...
I’m a kiwi living in aus and I’m be been here over 20 years, I used to say I love the sun but now that I’m older I miss the winter days , I miss the bush of nz, I miss the good people who aren’t so pretentious, but I don’t miss the crap night life Wellington has like you mentioned it’s really bad.
Speaking of climate I lived in Melbourne for 6 years … the most bipolar weather I’ve ever experienced in my life!!! NZ any day especially Taranaki .. the most sunshine hours in NZ for like 4 years straight 😎 I hated living in Melbourne 4 seasons in one day 😅
I was born and raised in NZ 1960 (JAFA) ; a westy (Swanson) and moved to Western Australia in 1988 with my wife when I was 28. I will be 63 in 2 weeks time so have lived here for 35 years, longer than the 28 years I did in NZ. I love the weather here (hate the cold and the rain) but do get homesick now and then. My 2 sons were born here (Made in Australia from Imported Ingredients) so they are Aussies. My wife and I are both naturalised Australians. I have been since 1990. I love both countries but dearly miss the Maori and other Polynesian Cultures. Have ALWAYS felt at home here with the Aussie and Kiwi cultures so similar. But the money, yes a big difference.
You are hilarious! Love your videos. I don't think I could choose between these 2 countries either. They are both equally amazing in their own way. I'm really looking forward to visiting both countries next year.
I’m an Aussie who has spent a fair bit of time in NZ. I love both countries. I find both countries as good as each other. There are so many similarities it often feels as if it’s one big country.
Congratulations on your 20K sub’s. Napoleon Hill in his famous book “Think and grow rich” says The poor man doesn’t consider money to be important. This is why the majority of NZer’s don’t have any money, it’s less important than other aspects of life. The best years of my life I was flat broke living in Palmerston North. So yeah if you want more money you have to put more focus and priority on it… which I kinda think you’re working on! Good on ya!
I lived in NZ for a year, visited Aus for a month. My impression as an American is that NZ still holds tight to its British roots whereas Aus feels more “main stream” and culture is closer to American than British. Simply, NZ feels more remote and British, Aus more main stream and American. I loved NZ to visit but if I had to permanently live in one, I’d choose AUS.
I lived and worked in Australia for 10 years. Aussies are more outgoing than New Zealanders. NZ is home for me, so I prefer here to Australia. We have an outsider such as you deciding what country is the better.
I think curls gets this just about right. NZ is by all accounts the more welcoming place. Aussie has more people therefore a bit more exciting in the big cities ( Auckland is about as large as Adelaide our 5th biggest city). NZ is more picturesque and scenic in the classic sense but Aussie beautiful in a rugged way. Aussies are more brusque and outwardly less helpful ( although that is in the cities where most live) Aussies don't really care so much what anyone thinks about them and can laugh off criticism more than kiwis, but kiwis are extremely helpful and good people . The wash up is that Aussies and Kiwis are extremely similar and we probably magnify the slight differences.
Most of what we feel about our countries is anecdotal and because we’re from that place. Personally, I see aussie going up and up while NZ seems to be on the decline. For the amount of amazing and beautiful places in nz, the moment you land at Auckland airport and drive towards your destination, all you see is construction sites and shitty areas.
NZ does not have the same racial tensions between its Indigenous communties as Australia in fact Maori are respected by Pakeha and Pakeha are respected by Maori - although certainly not a perfect relationship but definitely light years ahead of Australia. Also, we need to talk about the elephant in the room - racism. Racism in Australia appears to be more prevalent when you examine its history in comparison to New Zealand from its "Keep Australia white" policies to its infamous Cronulla Riots of summer 2005. I can guarantee you that if someone of colour were to go to country area's in many parts of Australia they would not be as welcome as in rural parts of New Zealand. I've worked with reguee and new immigrant communities as well as Indigenous communities in Australia mainly in country NSW and Country VIC and I was severely shocked to my core at the level of racism in many area's I had to go to - the feedback I received from many of these communities anhyone would of thought it was Mississippi pre-civil rights movement. It is a dirty secret Australian's love to sweep under the carpet.
@@alexiscolby9415 yes the racism displayed by some Aussies is unacceptable and obscene. That said I've met a good few appallingly racist kiwis as well, so room for improvement on both sides of the ditch.. Good to hear that you arre calling out this disgraceful stuff at every opportunity keep up the good work!!
Wildfires are not the result of climate change. Aussie forests are a fire ecology, eucolyptus seeds won't germinate unless burnt for eg. The problem is forest mismanagement, not the climate
That's true but the fires are greater in intensity now. That's the whole point where the factor of climate change comes in. It's getting hotter and drier.
@@1legend517 the fires are more intense due mainly to bad management climate change has absolutely nothing to with the intensity of the fire. To suggest that it does is idiotic
@@johanmeischke9189 No to suggest that climate has nothing to do with it is idiotic. That's where you're wrong. Fire mismanagement isn't the whole story.
Living in New Zealand and working for an Aussie company is usually what people are looking for these days! Good pay plus nice lifestyle, unfortunately Christchurch quake chnaged the whole balance! otherwise South Island was a beautiful place to live in.
I loved the video. I have a doubt, when you mention the topic "money" you said Australia is better because you earn more than New Zealand but, What's the cost of living in they both??
Um, I haven’t finished this video yet but I already have some good reasons why nz is better, #1, more than 15% of our land is actually habitable. #2, our country can actually grow things that are the colour green. #3 our animals aren’t out to kill us. #4 we don’t have to live UNDERGROUND because of our country’s climate. #5, Scott Morrison doesn’t live in nz. #6 we weren’t a place for criminals back in the day. And finally #7, we actually have hills and mountains. (Btw this is a joke so I don’t mean to offend any Aussie’s)
@@bingo000 Australia is better for working salaries, but they also need it because the cost of living there is a murder zone if you’re not a working professional (i.e., doctors, lawyers, civil servants, etc.).
They just leach off Australia. They didn’t want to be part of Australia but want all the benefits like free access to Australia. The biggest majority of ppl in Australian prisons are from New Zealand out numbering any other nationality, and the majority of homelessness are from nz Their government actually encourages the unemployed to move to Australia, it’s pathetic!
Curls loves NZ a heap. I'm an Aussie so I reckon Aussie is a touch better. NZ is obviously grouse though. It is is certainly the case that indigenous culture is more prevalent and respected in NZ as the Polynesian population is a much larger percentage of the overall population than indigenous Aussies are in Aussie.
Having lived in both and now neither, I don't rate one over the other, I think its dependent on the individual. I would say Aust for money and opportunity or NZ for lifestyle and food.
@@DomingoDeSantaClara I think curls would back you up in that assessment. I live in brisbane Aussie, if you don't mind warmer weather you have a lively city to enjoy and many world class beach towns like Gold Coast, Noosa and Byron Bay within driving distance. So lots of good lifestyle choices here as well. If you like life at a slower clip with fewer people and good food etc well NZ sounds like it wins out. Up to the individual I guess but NZ does look grouse!!! And curls loves it more than Aussie!!!
20-30 years ago Wellington had great vibrant nightlife with a wide selection of clubs and pubs. But it died out about 15 years ago, when the National government came into power and cut the public service.
Dual citizen lived in both countries. 1. New Zealand geographically tops 2. Australia economy better 3. New Zealand crime lower 4. Australian job opportunities, better. 5. Australia Universities better 6. New Zealand people nicer 7. Overall Medical, about the same 8. Cost of living, about the same(stop looking at food prices only) 9. New Zealand social progress waaaaay ahead 10. Want the best? Live and work in Australia, holiday in New Zealand. Have tossed up wether to return to Australia to retire, but have watched as housing has gone through the roof. Not just here in New Zealand. So are still in two minds about it.
@@biggiedii4889 That is incorrect, you are looking at the wrong information, not going into detail but are privy to other data on crime, Australia is worse per capita.
@@fabmanly1070 Hmmm no, not really. Latest stats has Australia's murder rate at 0.8 while NZ is 2.6. OECD Better Life Index has Australia marginally safer with a score of 7.7 to 7.6 in NZ.
@@EuropezonUruguayo1It can be depressing in Australia too when it’s cloudy and super-muggy. Or when it’s just too stinking hot and humid. Different strokes for different folks.
Great video, but the weather should really go to NZ, way to hot in Aussie to enjoy doing anything, weather in the South Island way superior, even in winter.
As a kiwi I prefer Australia to live because the inflation and cost of living here is outrageously high, much higher than in Australia, and also because I love sunny and hot weather. But New Zealand does have its charm and is a pretty beautiful place, definitely more than australia
Larger landmass, larger population, bigger economy: these three things translate into more opportunities. But: so many Aussies and Kiwis flock to the UK (and elsewhere) for these same reasons and no-one - I repeat no-one (not even here) - would seriously try to make the case that this means the UK is the best place to live. 😂
And that’s hardly surprising given that NZers travel more than Aussies, and that Australians often portray NZ (and even Tasmania) as some sort of inbred, poverty-stricken hell-hole.
In Wellington you have to do gigs to get good music, good people and better vibes - Courtney simply is crap in all sense of the words unless its a ticketed gig
Am I the only one that hates Australia’s weather? NZ’s winter is horrific and I love going over there then but I would rather die than put up with scorching hot summers and the sunburn people of my complexion inevitably get. NZ’s summer - especially here in Christchurch is perfect, mid 20s is just right. Neither climate is better imo.
As a New Zealander I am long past sick of these two nations being compared. Why these two nations? Why not ever compare to Canada. Or Ireland. Or some nation beyond the Anglosphere? We’re two different nations 2000km away from each other.
I don’t have to watch this video . We already know that he prefers ‘NZ .All British people prefer NZ Because it reminds them of the UK . I don’t care because I still think Australia has amazing scenery . We do have real mountains . By the way ! They are just not big . Same with UK , Portugal and Czechoslovakia .
I think you have a little recency NZ bias!! Australia has more and better food but I'm going to give it to NZ because hell they're smaller and try hard. NZ is the most unique country in the world...huh? Australia is officially one of a handful of megabiodiverse countries with many, many plants and animals totally endemic and far more the NZ. Unless I am missing something not sure how you can rate NZs uniqueness above Aust. BTW,,,this is just Aussie vs NZ banter...it is what we do!! both are amazing places.
Ya don't let the Australians know that though! Gotta let them believe they've won the battle or us kiwis will never here the end of it. Nothing worse than an upset Australian!!!!!
I have yet to watch it, which I am after my comment, To be honest, I can not understand how people can compare New Zealand ( my home country) to Australia, lol but, oh well, it is what is lol
Curls loved it. Being in a trappers Hutt a zillion miles from anywhere worries about boots drying that fire? And listening to the rain hitting the tin roof ....... Perfect. Must check the personal indicator bekon first thing ............
I think this guy spent too much time in Marble Bar in the outback or worse yet maybe hes from remote Siberia. Because in any of the main cities here in Australia it certainly is not living in an oven 24/7. He doesn't know what he's going on about!
Wouldn't know. Never lived anywhere else except from the bottom of the South to the top of the south and in between. As well as Auckland - Kaiwaka - and Hicks Bay/ Te Araroa. Now back in Chch.
I lived in NZ for 10 years and Aus for 11 years and to be honest I found NZ better coz their pies are better and the schools are nice coz when I first came everyone seemed to automatically come to me and hug me, which was nice, so on my 1st day I was very confident in the school and most amazingly there were no bullies at all. So if I had to rate Auz would be 6/10 and NZ would be 9.5/10🤗💝😏😏😏😏
Sorry NZ does not have “so much work to do” with Maori people specifically- there are disadvantaged people of course but these are all races. Similarly with aboriginal people in Aus. There have now been decades of preferential opportunities for these groups, which are escalating.
You didn't mention the Australian poisonous creatures which can kill you, as compared to zero poisonous creatures which can kill you in New Zealand. So I'm going to give New Zealand the extra point for that important fact alone. 😂
@@biggiedii4889 Spiders; Sydney Funnel Web, Redback. Deadliest snakes that live on the east coast; Eastern Brown, Mainland Tiger, Coastal Taipan, King Brown, Eastern Small Eyed snake, Common Death Adder, Red-bellied black snake. @@nzer57 Do you have any sources for that statement? There have been less than 50 Shark attacks in Sydney in 200 years. Only 2 deaths have been recorded in the last 50 years. Australia does not have better restaurants than New Zealand, it's just that Australia has more restaurants than New Zealand. This has to do with the fact that Australia has five times as many people, but also they have more spare cash, like he says, so people tend to dine out more. There are many restaurants in Auckland that are world class. Wellington might be pretty shit, like he says, but somewhere else like Christchurch (rebuilt after the earthquake) has outstandingly good restaurants.
I have to agree with him, there's just more range in Australia. I've had terrible Greek, Lebanese and Kebabs in NZ. Really missed good charcoal chicken when I was in Auckland too. Australia does ethnic cuisine esp from Southern Europe and the Middle East far better imo.
NZ unique in terms of flora and fauna?. The only fauna they have has been introduced by Australia. Australian animals can be found nowhere else whereas the only mammals NZ have are introduced. No comparison.!
