I moved to Australia from London in June 2019, I wanted to make this video to help others who want to do a working holiday visa on the things they need to sort out before they go/when they get there. This includes things like; visa, healthcare, TFN number, bank account, jobs, accommodation, farmwork etc.
I do tend to waffle so I have listed each section with what time it is in the video so you can skip ahead if you want to:
0:54 Visa
2:08 Healthcare - Medicare
3:15 Travel Insurance
3:45 Bank Account
4:25 Tax File Number (TFN)
4:47 ABN
4:59 Superannuation
5:45 Jobs
7:26 RSA - Responsible Service of Alcohol licence
8:21 Accommodation
9:06 Where to Live?
11:23 Which City?
13:12 What Time of Year to Come Out
13:42 Farmwork
Hope it is useful!
Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed it =D

Ribby! Thank you so much for this video it was extremely helpful. With the working holiday visa are there other jobs you can do to be eligible to apply for 2nd year visa other than farm work? I’ve barely been on a farm in the U.K. let alone abroad!

Hey Belle, thanks so much for watching glad it was helpful! Unfortunately for Uk citizens we are limited, you can also help with planting trees or something but it’s very hard to find work in that. Farm work is the main thing for us to do for the 2nd year, I know it seems crazy but apparently a lot of travellers say it was their funnest time as you meet a lot of people and make a lot of friends! You just have to hope you get a good placement!

Hello Becca, The best thing for you to do is stay in a hostel, I know that may not sound appealing but you will make so many friends there and meet other like minded people who you can then travel with and get a nicer apartment with. I wish we had stayed in a hostel as everyone I know who went out there made so many friends that way and had such a laugh. If you get an air bnb you will be on your own and it will be harder for you to meet people x

Where is the sun? There really are backpackers everywhere it’s just during winter months (June-September) it’s cold further down south so people tend to go more north such as Queensland as it’s still warm and sunny there. X

What time of year are you going? Brisbane wasn’t too hard to find work, I got a gym job luckily quite quickly (right place right time) but then I also got a job at Pig N Whistle on Riverside which is a British themed bar and really easy to get a job, it’s pretty much all WHV people from England, Scotland, Europe etc. It depends what you want, Melbourne is a bigger city with more there, but it’s more European. Brisbane is more Australia to me, and it’s sunny all year round. You also have Gold Coast and a lot of cool places nearby x

@ribbyeildon7964
@ribbyeildon7964 4 года назад
Ben Isherwood they say you need to save £3000 which I would definitely advise, however, if you can save more definitely do because you don’t want to be stressing if it takes a while to get work, and you will also feel like you’re on holiday and want to go out and have fun so just make sure you have enough to get you by that first month or two x

Hello Cam, sorry I’m only just seeing your message now! You should be able to get a job quite easily if you have restaurant experience. The best and most common jobs for WHV are hospitality so if you have experience in that area then you should get hired quite quickly, you just need to print out your cv and hand it round a load of bars and restaurants, also just make sure to get your RSA and you will be good to go! I'm currently planning on applying for my second year visa, after doing my farm work on my first year 2018/2019. I left Australia after 6 months the last time because I couldn't get a job in Sydney and was running out of money. I'm planning on having a lot more money saved this time to give me more time and a better chance of finding a job in a city. I'm also a qualified PT now and wasn't the last time I was looking for work in Australia. How did you find applying for jobs in gyms and where they relatively easy to come by or should I be looking at other options?
@ribbyeildon7964
@ribbyeildon7964 4 года назад
Nicole Butterly hello Nicole, sorry for the late response, I seem to miss some of my RU-vid notifications sometimes! That’s great you are a qualified PT congrats 😁. PT jobs are easy to get if you are going to pay rent at the gym, but actual gym jobs can be hard because they want people long term and don’t like people on WHV but if you have already got a second year visa I think they would be more welcoming as they will feel like you’re more likely to stick around then others who want to travel about. Are you going to stay in one city the whole year? Because if you say that to them and say how you are hoping to stay on in Australia for longer etc they shouldn’t have a problem hiring you. I found that independent gyms were better because you meet the owner and it’s up to them, however, with the big chains they have all these rules and regulations they have to stick too x

I plan on coming in October if I can (from US) I’m not finish with school though. (Online student) they also changed the rules. You can do hospitality jobs like work in cafes and bars instead of farm work to renew your visa.

Unfortunately for us Brits that rule is just for Americans. I met people who were working in bars or even scuba diving instructors (amazing) and they got their second year because Americans have that agreement with Aus. It sucks for us as we still have to do the Fram work lol, you are very lucky!

Hello Bella, thank you so much for your comment! 7k is more than enough ha! They say to have 3k minimum and I think that’s what we had which lasted us until we got a job. Obviously the more you have the better because then you will really be able to enjoy yourself before you get a job and don’t have as much time. It’s expensive in some ways like supermarkets but I found eating out not to be bad, most places are about $20 a meal which is like £10! I would say it’s similar to London with most prices, but it just depends where you go. Hope this helped! Xx

Depending on which state you are in, it may be a very good idea to get insurance to cover ambulance costs. If you are seriously injured or ill you might have to be transported a very long distance, and that can be ruinous if you are not in a state where it is free. Health insurance funds offer such insurance, and it's not expensive.

Actually Australian graduates are really struggling to get work in their chosen field, so there is no promises. Whilst we pretty much sailed through Covid, the reason we have is due to our shut borders and our borders are likely to still be shut by Easter of next year, at least. Our vaccine program is painfully slow here and whilst our economy is currently buoyant it won't remain so at this rate. The competition will only get stiffer and I'm sorry to stay having 'a business degree' will not make you stand out from Australian business graduates. However, start looking at Seek.com.au or indeed.com.au the most popular job site to get an idea of what is out there. You can also look at the State Government websites of the State you are thinking of going to. Type in ' jobs with ( state name) Government' each State has a different style of web page. Bear in mind many of these jobs will oy be for permanent resident citizens. The bottom line is, if you are coming here for a 1 to 2 year working holiday you should not be coming expecting to start your career here, unless you have a particular specialisation and you are being sponsored ( eg Emergency Dept doctor). Come with the attitude of I'll take what I can get, I suggest you do a barista course before you come ( we take our coffee seriously here, especially in Melbourne) and try to get some experience in a bar or cafe. You will never be unemployed in Australia in this area of work. Hope you get here, have have fun and travel a lot.

A bit of a stupid question: If I enter Australia with a Working Holiday Visa and look for a sponsorship when looking for work, would I potentially be able to then "upgrade" my visa to a one with longer stay such as the sponsorship working visa as I want to eventually permanently move there?

People do farm work to get their second year visa so if you want to do 2 years out there then just do the farm work first, get it out of the way, and then you can travel. You won’t really get to travel whilst on the farm as you will be in the middle of nowhere and you will normally be working 6 days a week but then you’ll get your 88 days done (that’s what’s needed to get 2nd year visa) done quicker. If you just get a normal job in a city somewhere then you will be able to take time off and travel and go back to your job etc. X

Quick question for the WHV, if you wanted to do your 2nd/3rd year do they all have to be consecutive? Or could I return home after the 1st year then decide to do my 2nd year WHV a few years later? For example, my girlfriend is from Oz, so we may return back to the UK after my 1st year being with her to do a ski season, and then return to Australia a few years after

Ribby Eildon one more question. So say you get your WHV and you’re working for a company for let’s say 5 months. Then your 1st year visa expires and goes to a bridging one (cos you’ve applied for 2nd year). Obviously the 6 month work for one employer resets again on a bridging visa but will it reset again once the 2nd years been granted? And would you have to leave that same employer and join back again or because you’ve been working for 5 months and then your new visa comes you can just carry on working for the same employer as the 6 month rule has been reset again
