This sounds like such a good idea. On my own my parents would probably never let me go anywhere, let alone abroad but if it's a working holiday and I'm making money while i'm also travelling slowly, it would probably be more acceptable to them. I think I'm about to look into this once I finish my college. I bet it's a good start to one's career and adulthood in general 😄

If you are travelling out rural you should go with Telstra's phone service because Optus will have zero bars out bush and there is very little public wifi in Aus, especially outside of the major and coastal cities.

Another option if you have a Trade and want to be self employed you can also apply for an Australian Business Number (ABN) although you don't need one if you are working for an employer. You will need to get your head around paying tax and collecting GST (> 75K/year) but I know people that have done it and do well for themselves.

Hey hey thanks for all the tips! This was really really helpful! If it's not too much trouble I do have a few questions regarding the visa and some other things? When applying for a subclass 462/417 is insurance required? And am I allowed to enter Australia without insurance? (I was wanting to get insurance once I arrived in Australia but I was not sure if I was allowed to do so.) Idk if you would remember this but it would really help a lot if I could get some clearance on this, I was asked for my educational level. The part that stumps me is the course name and institution name. I'm putting that I graduated high school (secondary school certificate in their terms) what would I put down for both the institution and course name? Thank you for the help again!! You've been a great help!!
@BackpackingBananas
@BackpackingBananas 5 лет назад
You don't need insurance to enter Australia but I recommend getting the insurance before you come out because that is what most policies require in order for the insurance to actually be effective! And the institution is the name of your school and the course name maybe just put your main subjects or the title of the exams? I wouldn't worry too much about that section tbh.
@MelloFae
@MelloFae 5 лет назад
Backpacking Bananas Ahh okay, that's good to know thank you! Yeah, that part was a tad overwhelming when it comes to that. Thank you so very much X) Also one other thing. A physical is required of all applicants? (I am in the United States) when is it best to take a physical before submitting the application or after submitting it? (That is something I don't wanna mess up)

with transferwise you can set up a virtual australian bank account so you wont require an australian bank account. You provide the employer your bank numbers and they can send you the money as and when. Currently it cant be used for direct debits which is the only downside if you want to set up a phone contract, otherwise it's hasslefree

I would start/end in Perth or cairns or visaversa unless other reasons because Perth shortest flight from uk or Europe and Cairns if coming from or going to east Asia after or before oz direct flights to Singapore Hong Kong China japan Guam from cairns also need to recover if stayed at gillies in cairns probably end best also unless working melb syd will eat your money

This video is so helpful but I'm just wondering --is it massively unrealistic of me to hope to get work in Australia if I'm only planning on being there for 3-4 months during my travels ?

What super account type (?) would you recommend then? You've mentioned that there are specific ones for backpacking. I'm heading there for my work&holiday visa in a few days! Feeling the butterflies
