1982 we never had a chance to quit. You were classed as AWOL if you left! And we had 12 man sections (only blokes went to 1RTB)

I agree with the dress and bearing bit. Here is a an example when we learnt grenades it was drummed into us M30 blue red band practice, olive drab yellow band M26 it will kill you! That went on for multiple lessons until just before live throwing, they got us into a training bay, pulled the pin on an olive drab grenade & we had to pass it from one to another and then the last recruit gingerly handed to the instructor who promptly dropped it on the floor - never seen blokes move so fast! By the way I didn’t run - saw inert stamped on the top!

If it isn’t broken don’t fix it hey Kenny.. 1991 was my Kapooka and it was bloody competitive, hard, cold but also very realistic and demanding and Kapooka handed a pretty good product to the next school of training.. Soldiers should carry their weapon from day 2 til graduation to remind them weapons are tools not toys and then the 2-5m rule of separation from your weapon as well as responsibility of a controlled item can be instilled

Every single one of the Marines are in the USMC. According to Marines Delta Oscar Charlie Milo the CORPS had been founded 1775.
