our generation has grown up being told we are never going to own a house, we are always going to be renters, we are always going to struggle, we are always going to need multiple jobs, grocery costs are through the roof, theres nothing worth dying for in this country at the moment. who wants to die for a country that wont even help us get affordable food and housing?

Wrong attitude mate that’s victim mentality and it will destroy your life, stand up represent in whatever you do and at least you will have a chance… Renting is fine, as long as you do something and work hard you will be fine mate I have faith in you even if you don’t .. We are so lucky to be living in this country now get out there mate the world owes you nothing

@@inthetrencheswithcas1762 Many young Australians are stuck in unstable, low-paying jobs. It's not about having a victim mentality; it's about recognizing the systemic challenges we face. We need policies that make housing affordable, create stable jobs, and ensure wages keep up with living costs. It's not just about working hard; it's about having a fair shot at succeeding in this country. In current state Australia, you can work as hard as you want and still not have a fair shot. That is the current mindset of a lot of people in Gen Z. We aren't lazy, a lot of us are incredibly hard working already. Until that changes, I can fully understand why Aus forces are struggling to entice people to join.

And what about the incentives for joining the ADF? Work hard there, get housing assistance, potentially a pension, most secure job you can possibly get and the greatest life experience you'll have as a young person. As Cas said, the world owes you nothing. That's a good thing, it makes you strong.

@@Pnelson793 Who wouldn't want to trade in their civilian life for a military career just to get basic housing assistance and a shot at a pension? And let's not forget the "greatest life experience" that comes with it because nothing says life experience like potentially going to war. Clearly, if you don't join the ADF, you're just not trying hard enough. And about the world owing us nothing thanks for the life lesson. While we're busy working multiple jobs and trying to pay exorbitant rent, it's great to be reminded that resilience will magically solve the systemic issues we're facing. But hey, if joining the military is the only way to get ahead, maybe we should just all sign up.

I hear you about the worries about Gen Z. As apart of that group myself it's difficult to explain whenever anyone asks about future plans. My brother calls me a nationalist to put me down and people ask me all the time "Why?", I'll have to start using your comeback to that. Got the chance to be in Villers-Bretonneux for this years ANZAC day, it made my calling that bit stronger. Might not get in due to medical reasons, but going to apply (and get on the Bat Phone) when I have the fitness so I don't let my teammates down. I know I have to do the hard yards now to not leave anything on the table when the time comes to enlist and go through training. Your videos and streams like this are immensely helpful, thanks Cas.

I work in the electrical industry Cas and we are in the same boat. Most depots have vacancies and we aren’t getting applicants for apprenticeships. Crazy times.

Yes mate it’s a modern society where people seem to be just giving up my man it’s sad as hell as if we don’t get that work ethic right at the start we may never get a shot to show what we can be..

Well, what is your industry doing about it? If you want applicants, you have to advertise. You have to reach out to young men and convince them to work for you. Are you doing that?

Hey Caz, I’ve got an application in progress for a position as a rifleman within the infantry reserves. However due to a broken elbow injury 18 years ago that required the input of surgical steel my application is getting tossed around to everyone to determine my suitability. I have no ongoing issues with mobility or strength in my arm as a result of the injury. I currently do Muay Thai kickboxing which is a high impact sport, can do 50 consecutive pushups with no problems and I’m in a good mental and physical state. I don’t see what the big deal is? I’m also a 5th generation Aussie born and bread. Maybe they are being too picky and are missing out on good quality people due to some of the red tape processes. Hopefully I get accepted because if I don’t, god help us.

I’m an American currently in the Navy soon to go to Army, contemplating joining the ADF just for the investment in its individuals, American military doesn’t seem invest as much training in its big army combat arms folks as much as the ADF does.

Don't get why Navy Divers only need to commit two years and women also only have to commit two years for infantry. But men getting into infantry have to commit 4 freaking years. I understand they want to get some dividends from their investment but I'm pretty sure training a navy diver is more expensive, and a commando? WAY more expensive, but they also have to commit 4 years. Why does a regular rifleman have to commit the same time as a commando? Again I get they want to get the most out of their investment but I wonder how many more men would apply if they only had to stay two years. A lot will leave yes but how many more would stay?

A very interesting concept, 2 years ago soldier really is only just fitting in and being classed as a private proficient/ semi senior soldier depending on his performance the danger is most soldiers get out based on emotion or influence from a current Lady who is probably unlikely to be their life partner.. This is a great conversation point I appreciate it..

Nah mate no one should get 2 years it has to be about commitment take away 6-8 months for training including IET’s then take off another 3 months for discharge process that’s a year gone already the tax payer pays way to much with no return if we base it on 2 years..

Can you join as an army officer if you have a criminal record with the last offence being 11 years ago

I would say yes but it would also depend on the offence etc How old are you that may be more of a drama .. Were you incarcerated for your offence ? You can always have officer role on your wish list along with several corps choices and see if you even qualify for officer selection then go from there matey?

The answer is yes and no it’s not a deployment it’s an exchange or a war game ie NZ Exchange, Gold Eagle USMC Hawaii but there are also Operations Like Mazurka in Sinai but that’s for senior NCO’s

Applied for the ADF army combat gap year, all was well (im 24 and the website says 17-224) went through my coaching sessions with no problems and talked about the gap year and was aware i was 24, got a call now 4 days ago saying im too old and cant do it?

I couldn’t give a crap what anyone’s religion is in the ADF worked with plenty of Muslims never had a drama.. Served in the Middle East and loved the lads that worked with us.. By the way if I did have a problem I wouldn’t have a problem saying it… I actually prefer everyone I work with to be religious or spiritual in some kind of way it’s always good to have the knowledge that there are forces greater than the self.. Next time you could ask the question with a little more curtesy I have no dramas answering your questions but it’s a pleasure to give a more detailed answer when it’s not asked by someone sounding triggered..
