After watching this (and owning a IIA GS CV and FFT ) I learned heaps! Interesting is that the crossover between metric and imperial, my FFT has gallon fuel tank dipsticks and my GS CV has metric dipsticks. The other things not mentioned is the front mounted exhaust on the FFT as to not gas the radio operators on long missions as the engine has to be run when the 24V batteries lost charge. FFT vehicles had a vent on the drivers side to prevent gas buildup, the “scone cutters” were replaced with jerrycan holders and they had no bonnet mounted tools unlike their GS cousins

Hi Geoff. I have a 1970 Series 2a Army. It has all the expected additions, however it also has super heavy duty rails either side professionally welded to the outriggers with holes for mounting things on. The rails have very old original green but then olive drab paint over same as rest of vehicle and various layers of reapplication exactly the same as the rest of the vehicle. Looks to me like an Australian Army adaption. I am thinking it may have had side brush deflectors like the SAS bolted on to the rails and also I think another signals/topography verision. Bit of a mystery but rails set up extremely well engineered. Also has now cut off welded on joining points for something heavy duty on either end of the front brushguard which may have been side tubing. Come across this before? Regards Jeremy in Capalaba Brisbane.

VERY WELL PRESENTED. MY SERIES 3 WENT TO NAMIBIA WITH THE U.N. BUT DON'T KNOW IF THAT WAS NATO. HAVE UPGRADED TO A PERENTIE IN 2015.

The only Land Rovers used by the military in Oz that were galvanized were the 110's and the 6x6 , the Series L/R's were not, cheers Dennis

I had one of these and the suspension lift was a lot higher than a normal Land Rover, The front spring hanger mounts are about 5 or 6 inches long and then they had longer than normal shackles, The front and rear springs had a lot of curve in them and they had a lot more Leaves in them, I am just on 6ft tall and the drivers side floor pan was around the same height as my Hip Joint so Truth be known the Aussie series 2a sat about 6"+ higher than a normal Land Rover and they had 4.7:1 Diffs from memory, Due to the suspension set up in them the only time you got a smooth ride is when they were fully loaded. and above 50mph they were very noisy, Off Road they were better than anything else ever made butOn the Highway it only took 30 minutes to an hour and ya brains were fried.

Australia, member of NATO... Not sure that is accurate however we have been involved in NATO operations.

Thanks for pointing that out! Could you share what you know about Australia and NATO?

I am not an expert so there maybe some additional history that I am unaware of. I believe that our first direct engagement with NATO was the in the Balkans during the 1990s. I used to own an ex-military land rover which had UN/NATO details stamped on it. I wonder if that's related despite not having a direct relationship at the time (of my vehicle) Forgot to mention great video.. keep up the great work

Australia is not part of nato however we work with nato USING Nato principles all equipment can be interoperable with other countries that follow or are part of NATO

Hi Geoff.I have a series 2 1958 short wheelbase hard top well back rover with hi square cut front guards. Apparently she was a range marshalls vehicle somewhere in western Australia.Been in my family for about 50 odd years.Im starting to do her up now but She is great in the bush and will go just about anywhere.I have a couple of questions. No one has touched this machine it came from the army and its been on the farm forever yet is seemingly has lifted suspension ..need a ladder to get in her and the square cut guards....Would the army make these modifications? Id like to get some more body panels as the cows over the decades have leaned against her and there isn't a straight panel on her....Goes well just get in and drive and is used regularly

Hi Mot. There army and Rover Australia did make a lot of modifications with the 2A and it remained in services the longest out of all the series Land Rovers variants. They did come out with extended spring hangers which gave them a 2 inch lift. I would recommend having a read through REMLR, I have placed a link below: www.remlr.com/ Hope this helps, if you have another questions feel free to get in touch and join our free Facebook community page called seriously series community. Best of luck, kind regards, Geoff
